As much as I like Moon Patrol, you've got to admit that the buggy looks weird and deformed in pretty much every single port of the game.
The original arcade version might be at fault for this, the original buggy is a crudely drawn pink blob with some cannons stuck to it, with three wheels that don't even look round :)
Nevertheless the nice suspension effect and fun gameplay made up for it :D
There was a 2600 version, and it got the important bits right, but it is just not the same without that music.
It is just the opposite here, the public workers have some ridiculous benefits that are paid for with taxes collected from the private sector employees. The differences in our countries always fascinate me, but not as much as the similarities.
Cowboys and Aliens was a fun movie, but it didn't do so well at the box office. Too bad.
@edt1138 There's a misconception here that public sector workers are given a higher than normal pension by being subsidised via private sector taxes. It's not true. What people aren't told is that the public sector workers pay a lot more in terms of contributions. The misinformation on the subject over here is disgraceful.
I didn't know Cowboys & Aliens hadn't done well. Shame... coz it's very enjoyable... and "13" is utterly droolworthy.
I loved this game. One of the few games that was halfway decent/enjoyable on most other systems except, of course, for the abysmal Amstrad port. Same thing, imho, with DigDug. Highly enjoyable even on the 2600...
I just found Moon patrol for the Atari 2600 (check my channel and Jan. Gaming Pickups) and I think it's pretty comparable with this version of the game. I liked it. Great video Steve....as always!
Looks pretty good, but what the hell has happened to the buggy? It used to look cool with its wheels following the terrain. As always ur commentary and skillz are what makes the vid good tho.
I love this game. Among my first PC games I played as a kid. Friendly suggestion, not that I am that good at it, don't go at full speed or minimum speed all the time. It makes it impossible to avoid certain type of enemy fire/tactic.
I loved this game at the arcade. It took so many quarters that were probably better spent on the clothes drier instead of in the machine. I did eventually get the C64 version, but it never seemed to grab me the same way. It seems this is another game that they could give a go at updating a little bit.
A classic game. I've played arcade original, C64 and 2600 version, which was ...eh...rather underwhelming. But I like this, it looks and sounds great, (music is better that c64 in my opinion). Thank you for video.
Moon Patrol was a really awesome game. Every port I ever played it on was really fun, but I always preferred the arcade version. Usually I hate game remakes but for some reason I feel that this game might translate well in 3D as a moon buggy simulator, but perhaps only as an indie game... but then again I can be seriously wrong about this.
I had this for 2600 and loved the hell out of it. I played this in the arcade only once in like 1986 or 87 and never saw it in an arcade after that. I was starting to think I imagined it!!! Such a fun and overlooked game and the tune in it is one of the best from the classic video games, Nice blues riff.
Superb game and a great version ! I really like the look of Atari 400/800 games . I loved playing this in the arcade with my cousin on holiday ! Great memories..
Great stuff !! Never played this version, but did play the C64 one a fair bit. I also played a lot of Moon Alert on the Speccy, which is similar, but much much slower.... and harder... and crapper.. and less colourful.
Without a doubt one of my favourite arcade games, just love the tune and sound effects, which this version has managed to capture. It would have been nice if they could have used a higher resolution, as the sprites are a little chunky, but it is no worse than Atari 8-bit titles of the same time period.
The MSX version is closer to the arcade game in object detail than this one. Not taking anything away from how this one looks to play, which is excellent. Definitely on the to get list :)
@electricadventures I know what you mean about the resolution. While I don't feel it does the background any harm, the buggy itself looks kind of... deformed... lol :)
@BlooditeDrakan I don't know what 1CC stands for... lol. Is that where you play one credit on max difficulty and see how far you get? Sounds like fun!
@SteveBenway You're close! But it's more about being able to actually finish the game without losing said credit. 1CC stands for 1 clear credit. I could probably do it with enough practice.
Yeah I had the Atari 2600 version back in the day, and the controls are horrid, and even for a 2600 game, the graphics made you want to stab yourself in the eye.
@clays121 Funny how they managed that. Some 2600 games managed to look really nice, while others... it's like they'd been put through a mincer, set on fire, and then glued back together again inside out.
@SteveBenway Very very true, and a lot of it has to do with efficient coding, and knowing how to get the most out of a system, just look at some of the modern C64, and Atari 8bit demos, damn near Amiga/ST 16bit levels. In fact :-)
Hi Steve! Greetings from Finland! I like your videos, keep going! :)

The best Moon Patrol conversion is on Colecovision. This Atari version play OK but looks really blocky - too far from the coin op graphics.
