I've left a box full of small trinkets and treasures from my life so far in the top of my closet for me to keep forever. I even keep a journal and occasionally write letters to my future self, so this song is a reminder of who I am and what I do. <3
I think it is quite ironic that the first time I heard this song was the day after I left the Army for medical retirement. It reminds me of the inner dialogue you have when you go through that, where you are frantically trying to figure out how to pay bills and keep things going, but at the same time you are free now to be yourself, so you have to try to live and use that freedom, and not get bogged down in the everyday. I have been living those inner exchanges, and I too chose to be awake...
You know, this is a powerful song. I do not know if they even comprehend the power behind these words. How many of us are existing? How many of us, if confronted by our child selves would be able to tell them our life is happy and full of the wonder and beauty that we once held on to? I couldn't. Amazing song, and I would love to see a video pertaining to the song...imagery with this song could become even more powerful. I wonder if the'd mind if I did something like that lol?
@KiropLokiIncarnate What you're hearing is not a suicidal voice or depression. Instead it's disbelief that he could be changed so much by the world.
In the mind of the child are all the grand ideas of what life should be, that he should be changing the world, but as he's grown those have been put to one side to do as everyone else does - work, eat, sleep and repeat.
Agreed. As we get older, sometimes we can lose sight of what really matters in life as we get tied down by the realities of a job, mortgage, et cetera. I think at the heart of the Steampunk genre is the idea of looking at the world from a different perspective--not just how things are, but how they could be, and why be shackled by convention? This song captures the heart of that, as seen by a young child, and himself as a grown man, evaluating his life. Fantastic song!!!
Does anybody else think that Chronofax sounds a lot like the plasmid videos from Bioshock? I almost felt it should be advertising Incinerate or something.
Just found out today the album is out, and been listening it for the whole day... Favorite song of the new ones, for now. It's so... so strong. Love it. ^^
This is currently my favorite off their latest. Like others I'm happy to hear Jody doing more singing instead of just background vocals. I love the mix of Jody and Robert's voices. And of course Nathaniel's violin.
You should check out her channel on here: JodyEllenMakeup. She's got some videos of her singing some cover songs. Great voice and emotional performances.
This song gave me the idea to write letters to myself. I put them all on a box, to be opened on certain milestones in my life.

@Kurisutaru6789
Those videos were based on advertisements from the 50's or around that time, so the similarity is to be expected.
