It's a shame that many young hockey fans don't even know this guy. Bossy absolutely deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Gretzky, Lemieux and Gordie Howe. One of the greatest, most skilled players ever. If he had a full career, he'd have challenged Gretzky's goals title.

Bossy had a .762 GOAL per game %. He played a majority of those first seasons in pain due to his back. Theoretically had he been able to maintain that pace and play as long as Gretzky- he would have beat Gretzky's goal total by about 239 goals. There's also no telling how much higher his % would have been had his back been healthy his entire career. Without a doubt Bossy is the most prolific goal scorer ever. The game and the players haven't really evolved that quickly .
gretzky is better as well, so is lemieux and orr, there is a reason why he has not been remembered like these three have. and btw i noticed some of u are saying how gretzky had it easy with all of the greats on his team.... um take a damn look at the islanders and tell me if any of them ring a bell, im sure theres couple of half decent players bossy played with too lol
@TheMastadon15 You must not be old enough to have watched him play. There's no denying Crosby's skill. But Crosby is in his 6th season already and he's only scored 50+ goals once. At the end of Bossy's 6th season he already scored 365 goals and he scored over 50+ every year except his last which he scored 38 in 63 games. He retired at 30 and had 1126 points. To say Crosby is better or will be at this juncture is ignorant and premature,he's going to end up like Lindros most likely.
@weredoomed Today's athlete is faster, stronger, smarter, better coached, properly diagnosed and trained. Without a doubt would Crosby not only score but dominate in every way in an 80's setting. Not only does Crosby face the best defence ever in today's game system, but the best goal-tending as well. You can't compare generations at all, it doesn't translate and is, as you say it, ignorant.
In my view, the best goal scorer ever. Not a physical player, not the guy I would use to kill penalties, but simply the most amazing talent I've ever seen at scoring from every possible angle, from every possible situation, against any goalie. You just had to give Bossy the puck while you were in the offensive zone, and the likelihood that a goal would be scored was high as shit.
@Ghatzi91 Whats your problem? FUCK YOU!! How rude. You must be a kid who knows jack all about hockey if you have a problem with #22. Clearly you are either blind, ignorant, or a toddler, who knows nothing of the lore of hockey. Poor little child. Sucks to be you.
Such confidence he had, he promised 50 goals in his rookie year and delivered! It's a a shame his back couldn't hold up for longer due to getting cross checked in the back every game by lesser players. 9 straight seasons of 50+ goals, many of which where 60+ goal seasons to boot. He is the purest sniper in my opinion, a vicious wrist shot that has never been matched to this day in my opinion. He was a perfectionist, whose only regret was not scoring 50 goals in his final season due to injury.
As much of a magician as Gretzky was, if I was building a team and could choose any (non-goalie) position player in hockey history - in his prime - around which to build, I'd choose Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux, Gordie Howe or Mark Messier before Gretzky. Why? Gretzky couldn't play physical, and depended on a large supporting cast to protect him. His stats weren't near so gaudy when he left the Oilers and all those Hall of Famers around him. All-time great? Yes. Superman? No.
The best sniper in the game, period!!The 80's were ruled by the Islanders,Mets, and Giants. The Yankees went south,The Jets had a few seasons where they should have accomplished something, especially in 1983,don't even get me started on that. The Knicks weren't great either. The 90's helped the Yankees,Knicks, and Rangers though, that's the truth. But come on now 4 Stanley Cups in a row,and a chance to almost get 5,uheard of.Only the Canadiens did that.
When I used to watch the sports report on cable television when I was a kid, just the text summary of islander hockey games, this line would be repeated over and over:
He also played in a more physical and demanding conference than Gretzky did. Had his back not gone out when he was 31 there were a few more good seasons there and he would have made 650 to 700 with no problem.
I doubt he would have beat Gretzky's career goals, but its possible. He has a higher average because he played less than half as many seasons. If he'd played until he was almost 40, he'd have slowed down too. Gretzky was the fastest ever to 300, 400, 500, and 600 goals. Also, Bossy had 50 in 50, but Gretzky had 50 in 39 and 50 in 42, both considerably better. Bossy also never had a 70+ goals season, Gretzky had 4.
respect the "boss", the reason wayne gretzky is the all time leading scorer is because guys like bossy and mario had major health problems. if they were as healthy and played as long as gretzky, well you know.
Actually Bossy has the best goals per game average in NHL history. A lot of injuries halted his career. I think mricceo was just extrapolating this fact to the amount of games Gretz played. Yes, it is truly impossible to know if he would have more goals than Gretz, but it could have been possible. I remember that Bossy, Trottier and Potvin formed a lethal combination for the Isles back in the 70s/80s.
Mike bossy has the most amazing goal ever seen by human eyes when it comes to the national hockey league in the playoffs forhand to back hand in mid air past a defender sprawling and a goalie behind him sprawling..its at 1:03 on this video bobyy orr' lil ballerina move doesn't compare to that goal..this team is never over rated 4 straight cups to become a dynasty which there isnt another team in the nhl like that and they swept the might oilers for their 4th cup
Oh man -- growin' up on Staten Island -- watching this guy play -- dealing with all the Ranger fan/Islander haters. I loved him. They were glory days if ever there were any.
Anyone who talks and shit about the Islanders in this era is just a jealous asshole! True Championship team and player! 4 straight cups, and the year they lost, they went to the finals to lose to the one of the next greatest teams ever. Haters eat shit!!!! Even Ranger fans know better than to argue the point.
easy there....That's a BIG stretch saying Bossy would have easily surpassed Gretzky... How many 70, 80 or 90 goal campaigns did Bossy have? Great player though...
Certainly one of the 10 greatest offensive players who ever lived, but I never could stand him on a personal level. Too arrogant, not as obnoxious as Potvin but definitely smug
@goonookanooka I don't even like The Rangers. I've been rooting for Detroit my whole life... Bossy put HIMSELF on his OWN ALL-TIME TEAM in his book, he has always been a smug, arrogant guy
the islanders have gone down since then but only because theyve given away top draftpicks (chara, luongo),and theres a few more big names BUT MIKE BOSSY homegrown montreal boy i dont get why no one ever talks about this guy its always gretzky and richard
what's cool about this is not only is bossy one of greatest wingers of all time but it shows the last pro sports team in north america to win 4 straight championships wow thats unheard of these days...
Great video. Brought back a lot of memories. I was lucky enough to be there when Bossy scored his last 2 to get 50 in 50. Nobody in the building thought he would do it needing 2 goals with only 5 minutes left.
Everyone can argue who was the best, but he was one of those players that brought the Nassau Coliseum to their feet when he came down the wing and wound up.... great memories.
Ohhh, cmon please dont make god from Gretzky, in points noone probably will beat him, but in goals some players have even better statistics, i think if Bossy would play as much as Gretzky, he would score even more goals, Lemieux too. But there are simply no player, who can be decided the best of all times.
Bossy was my favourite player - when it wasn't one of his teammates who was scoring the most-recent goal for the Champion-era Isles - but I would not claim #22 to be the 'Best of All-Time'...no such player exists...many greats have made a name for themselves in the world of ice-hockey...let sportsmanship remain the pinnacle of your focus as you follow your favourites into the post-season and (possibly) onto the Stanley Cup Championship.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Bossy was amazing yes. Gretzky was better. You know that asswipe. The
Islanders were an overated hockey "dynasty" that should have never been. The Oilers showed that in 1984--they killed them. Doesnt that tell you something about how shitty the Islanders really were? They werent even a dynasty in my books. Yeah thats right. A fishstick dynasty for sure!
Remind me, who did the Islanders beat in 1983 for their 4th straight cup?? Oh yea thats right the Oilers. You sound like a moron, the Islanders suck because they missed out on winning 5 straight cups?? And please enlighten the rest of us as to what you consider a dynasty.
Just how the hell were the Islanders overated?? The Oilers "killed" the Islanders in 1984?? How does losing a Stanley Cup final after winner 4 in a row, make the "shitty"???
To decide who is best of all time, you need to consider dominance & longevity.
Scoring, play making, defence, physicality, leadership & health are key elements, but only staying healthy definines athleticism. Consider streaks of Ripken, Favre & Howe in their sports.
Lemieux, Bossy & others have been dominant but did not stay healthy enough.
The final test is to ask who had the rarest capacity to change the game. Orr and Gretz did this, but Gretzky had both longevity & dominance.
I agree with you to an extent...longevity certainly does play a role in defining the greatest of all time.
but I couldn't disagree more with staying healthy defining athleticism. When it comes to Ripken, Favre and Howe...luck played a LARGE role in their streaks/longevity. Especially in physical sports like football and hockey...one wrong turn could end a career and no matter how good the athlete, they have no control over it.
lots of opinions....fine. I couldn't read em all. Fact....there,s been flashy-er players, faster skaters, and hardershots throughout the years. It's all bs. Bossy is unarguably one of the top 5 forwards ever. Believe me...i saw him regularly, and i,ve seen em all since. That damn back cost him 300 goals. Google his first 8 years in the league. Crunch time?
Chek his playoff stats. And he played clean, selfless hockey. I,m damn proud 2 have him in our legacy
As a ranger fan I hate the islanders, Mike Bossy was amazing though, no denying that. Those are nice lists of goal scorers. I grew up following all around players, Guys who could not only put the puck in the net but could hit, play defence and stick up for temmates.
True, but Bossy, like the Islanders, didn't need a nickname. They just went about their business as a team. He was right when he said the Isles never got nearly enough recognition for what they did those 4 years. They weren't like either the Habs or Oilers who were much more offensive.
Despite having 5 future HoF players (should be 8 with Goring, Tonelli, and Nystrom), they weren't seen as a bunch of superstars like either of the other dynasties.
Despite the stats, Guy Lafleur was a much better and more spectacular all-round player . In fact, his +/- average is on of the greatest. Bossy was a great sniper.
Bossy was a great goal scorer...having the best ever goal per game average (2nd best post season to only Mario), but he was more than that.
He won the Lady Byng 3 of 4 years in the mid 80's, and despite not being seen as having any defensive talents wound up developing into a key part of the Isles' tight, more defensive-oriented team game than Montreal's incredible offensive dynasty.
He was also a Conn Smythe winner, which is only given out to skaters with a complete game when it counts.
If Gretzky, Lemieux and Bossy never missed a game, Lemieux would have easily scored the most goals. Only a fool ignores this. Bossy was overrated. Gretzky was a playmaker, not really a goal scorer in true terms. Lemieux was fantastic, the way he scored his goals, like none of his goals were garbage goals or just mostly slapshots like Boss.
Bossy was hardly overrated, although he is often incorrectly considered to be a purely offensive/goalscoring machine. He never thought of himself as such, although he had the touch.
To score goals, even garbage goals. you need to be in position, and both 66 and 99 had their share of those, too...just like all the greats did.
Lemieux, healthy, likely would have been the most prolific goal scorer, but the vid is about Boss, who is deserving of his #20 ranking on the top 100 of all time.
Good reasoning but it's flawed. You can't say Lemieux would have scored more because you are putting a guarantee on something that didn't happen. You base his goals by saying "Yes, his average wouldn't have dropped at all". That's like saying Gretzky could have scored more goals if played weaker goalies . Bottom line, Gretzky lasted longer and that's what made him great. If you use the Lemieux reasoning FOR Bossy, Bossy matches Gretzky's goal total while playing as many games as Lemieux
OK I can see if your arguing about garbage goals, like if someone questions Dino Cicarrelli's goal scoring ability because there were a lot of cheap ones. but to criticize bossy because he scored "Mostly slapshots?" What the hell's wrong with having a great slap shot? That's ridiculous. And I can guarantee you Lemieux scored a few garbage goals out of his 690.
Bossy scored 50+ goals in all of his first 9seasons...even injured in his last season (at just age 30) was on pace for 48.
He played half as many seasons as Gretzky, in a more defensive conference. Had he played as many games, he was on pace for 1133 goals to Wayne's 894, 415 PIMs to Wayne's 577...not bad for a guy who actually played both ends ALL the time. Bossy NEVER fought, either, and further showed his class when he passed to a teammate (empty net) rather than 'break' Rocket's 50 in 50
@mricceo no, Gretz is the greatest for a multitude of reasons. No one has ever shone brighter and meant so much to so many as ole 99. Boss was good, he just asn't in Gretz class. That's not a put down of the Boss, no one is in Gretz class.
@mricceo yea and gretzky would have had more goals if he stayed with the oilers is whole career. my grandmother would be my grandfather if she had a set of balls. IF is a big word dawgy
@mricceo Nothing against Bossy but he might have come close to Gretzky's record for goals but he wouldn't have touched any other Gretzky record, if Wayne finished after his first ten years like Bossy did, his PPG would be around 2.3!
@Winnipegger101: Isn't Bossy's regular season per game scoring average higher than that of Gretzky? Comparing the Great One and Bossy is an apples and oranges comparison anyway, because Bossy retired very early, at age 30 or so, due to injuries, and thus didn't suffer an age-related decline in scoring as every player does. It seems pretty evident that there is no love lost between Bossy and Gretzky; Mike believes that his Islanders teams don't get their just due compared to Edmonton.
Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier,Bob Nystrom all work for the Islanders and are involved in everything from player development, alumni affairs, and the Islanders Business Club. This video was actually played at the press conference announcing Mike Bossy's return to the organization as the head of the IBC
umm, no. that would be gretzky, and than mario (who probably could've been the best). mike bossey was definitely the best goal scorer to play the game, but not the best player.
Well, he played for 10 years (or maybe 9, I forgot) and already had around 1100 points. At the same time, Gretzky and Lemieux were better players. All in all they were all great.
Oh man I LOVE the New York Islanders.. but that team was so special .. such mythological heros .. and in that era where they all looked like serial killers with the scruff.. Clark Gillies, Ken Morrow, Trots, Bossy, Potvin, Billy, Nystrom, Butch Goring.. WHAT A FUCKING TEAM.
one of the greatest. For him to come out as a rookie and say he will score 50 goals, then do it in 50 games is probably the boldest statement in NHL history. What a player!
It's just sad that the Islanders dynasty doesn't get nearly as much publicity as the others.
I would say that Bossy had a very decent chance to score over 1,000 goals if back injuries hadn't forced him to retire at age 30. Mickey Redmond was another one whose bad back forced him to retire early. He would have scored 500-600 goals easily, but still racked up 233 before being forced to retire at age 28 with a couple of 50 goal seasons before he was 27 and his back problems started.
Probably most underestimated player ever. He was a scoring-machine.
But then again he played in the most underestimated team ever (post-time) almost everyone speaks of montreal and edmonton and forget about islanders it seems.
He should also be remembered for best goalcelebration:P
Nobody scored more goal during his tenure in the NHL ('77-'87) than Bossy. Not Gretzky, not Lafleur, nobody.
Bossy also had the highest goals-per-games ratio. Better than Greztky or Lemieux.
He also had the quickest wrist-shot I have ever seen. The pass would come into the slot and then it was gone, in the net. If we had HD back then, we would have actually *seen* his goals.
So while a few players have netted more pucks than the Boss, he was the *purest* goal scoring sniper ever.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
still idk buddy your '77 to '87 stat is pointless because gretzky didnt start until '79 so bossy had 2 more years to net more goals then gretzky did...50 in 50 was amazing by bossy but gretzky destroyed that record by 11 games! so you cant tell me bossy was a better goal scorer than gretzky....maybe more cocky and arrogant but thats it
You either have a reading problem or an english language comprehension problem. Read my post again. Otherwise, i can't help you. Sorry.
You can't take one season (50 in 39) and trump a brilliant career. Selanne broke his rookie record. Is Selanne thus better than Bossy?
I never questioned WG's talent. WG is the best hockey player of all time, no doubt. We are talking about *goal scorers* here. Totals, averages, consistency, mechanics, etc. Taken in totality, my claim still stands.
The greatest Islander of all time and he would have been in the top 10 if his back hadn't gave out. A true gentleman and a class act! (His 3 Lady Byng's speek for themselves!)
The Islanders dynasty won 19 straight playoff series, nobody has ever come close, before or since. Bossy was an absolute pleasure to watch, thanks for the nice tribute!
That was awesome. Thanks for posting. Bossy was my idol growing up. I remember playing backhanded on right wing because I wanted to play the same position as Bossy.
LOL ... Sean Avery owns !!! He doesn't even play for the Rangers anymore.. lol
Besides, anyone who knows anything about hockey knows Bossy was one of the best. I love ppl who say Potvin sucks, islanders Suck. Potvin and Bossy were better then any Ranger ever.. suck it !!
The 80s Islanders were the best hockey team to ever play in my opinion. They are the most underrated dynasty in history. Like the Soviets, they were years ahead of everyone else. They could beat the Habs in skating games and they could beat the Flyers in checking games. Islanders, Dallas salutes you!
I'm not so sure the Ilse's dynasty teams could out-skate the Habs' dynasty that won four cups from 76-79.. You're talking about Lafleur, Cournoyer, Lemaire, Lapointe, Robinson... but I respect your opinion. And I'd agree that their dynasty team would be one of, if not the most underrated one the NHL's had.
But THE best dynasty, you HAVE TO give it up for that the Habs' dynasty that won 5 cups with The Rocket, Jean Béliveau, Doug Harvey, Jacques Plantes, and Toe Blake (just to mention those!)
At 1:00....damn. As a former LIder and attendee of more Islander games than I can remember...next to Gretzky and Mario, Mike was the best. If played 20 seasons healthy...who knows.
podojones, your clearly an idiot, gretzky never had 9 consecutive seasons of 50+ goals, he has a total of 9 50+ goals in his career, bossy has the highest goals per game % and that record wont ever be broken. Gretzky is still head and shoulders better than bossy tho, the stats say it all
I have heard Bossy comment on the speculation on how he would have fared had Gretzky been has centerman. He said that he already played with the greatest centerman of the era (Trottier)and wouldnt have done any better with Gretzky.
I stand corrected....Bossy Rules, still the best goal scorer ever...what if he had Getzky feeding him passes. the way Jari Kurri did?....the Oilers feasted on: Canucks. Wings, Kings, Jets, Flames,(who all sucked!)8 games a year.. teams that weren't even any competition for them...48 gravy games for Gretzky & Co, to feast on..I'm not saying the Oilers sucked..that would be foolish.. just take it all with a grain of salt!..Bossy rules!

If he'd played until he was almost 40, he'd have slowed down too. Gretzky was the fastest ever to 300, 400, 500, and 600 goals. Also, Bossy had 50 in 50, but Gretzky had 50 in 39 and 50 in 42, both considerably better. Bossy also never had a 70+ goals season, Gretzky had 4.

respect the "boss", the reason wayne gretzky is the all time leading scorer is because guys like bossy and mario had major health problems. if they were as healthy and played as long as gretzky, well you know.

tokyorealestateman 1 year ago

Great video. Brought back a lot of memories. I was lucky enough to be there when Bossy scored his last 2 to get 50 in 50. Nobody in the building thought he would do it needing 2 goals with only 5 minutes left.
Everyone can argue who was the best, but he was one of those players that brought the Nassau Coliseum to their feet when he came down the wing and wound up.... great memories.
roserc31 2 years ago
Ohhh, cmon please dont make god from Gretzky, in points noone probably will beat him, but in goals some players have even better statistics, i think if Bossy would play as much as Gretzky, he would score even more goals, Lemieux too. But there are simply no player, who can be decided the best of all times.
ronnyoselivan 2 years ago
Bossy was my favourite player - when it wasn't one of his teammates who was scoring the most-recent goal for the Champion-era Isles - but I would not claim #22 to be the 'Best of All-Time'...no such player exists...many greats have made a name for themselves in the world of ice-hockey...let sportsmanship remain the pinnacle of your focus as you follow your favourites into the post-season and (possibly) onto the Stanley Cup Championship.
Peace.

A fishstick dynasty for sure!

glsingle 1 year ago
To decide who is best of all time, you need to consider dominance & longevity.
Scoring, play making, defence, physicality, leadership & health are key elements, but only staying healthy definines athleticism. Consider streaks of Ripken, Favre & Howe in their sports.
Lemieux, Bossy & others have been dominant but did not stay healthy enough.
The final test is to ask who had the rarest capacity to change the game. Orr and Gretz did this, but Gretzky had both longevity & dominance.
hobson4 2 years ago
I agree with you to an extent...longevity certainly does play a role in defining the greatest of all time.
but I couldn't disagree more with staying healthy defining athleticism. When it comes to Ripken, Favre and Howe...luck played a LARGE role in their streaks/longevity. Especially in physical sports like football and hockey...one wrong turn could end a career and no matter how good the athlete, they have no control over it.
RobertBalto 1 year ago
lots of opinions....fine.

LS6Z28 2 years ago
True, but Bossy, like the Islanders, didn't need a nickname. They just went about their business as a team. He was right when he said the Isles never got nearly enough recognition for what they did those 4 years. They weren't like either the Habs or Oilers who were much more offensive.
Despite having 5 future HoF players (should be 8 with Goring, Tonelli, and Nystrom), they weren't seen as a bunch of superstars like either of the other dynasties.
elijah5674 2 years ago
Despite the stats, Guy Lafleur was a much better and more spectacular all-round player . In fact, his +/- average is on of the greatest. Bossy was a great sniper.
sicily123452002 2 years ago
Bossy was a great goal scorer...having the best ever goal per game average (2nd best post season to only Mario), but he was more than that.
He won the Lady Byng 3 of 4 years in the mid 80's, and despite not being seen as having any defensive talents wound up developing into a key part of the Isles' tight, more defensive-oriented team game than Montreal's incredible offensive dynasty.
He was also a Conn Smythe winner, which is only given out to skaters with a complete game when it counts.
elijah5674 2 years ago
If Gretzky, Lemieux and Bossy never missed a game, Lemieux would have easily scored the most goals. Only a fool ignores this. Bossy was overrated. Gretzky was a playmaker, not really a goal scorer in true terms. Lemieux was fantastic, the way he scored his goals, like none of his goals were garbage goals or just mostly slapshots like Boss.
Best players of all-time
1) Orr
2) Lemieux
3) Gretzky
4) Howe
5) Harvey
HisMajestyBobbyOrr 2 years ago
Bossy was hardly overrated, although he is often incorrectly considered to be a purely offensive/goalscoring machine. He never thought of himself as such, although he had the touch.
To score goals, even garbage goals. you need to be in position, and both 66 and 99 had their share of those, too...just like all the greats did.
Lemieux, healthy, likely would have been the most prolific goal scorer, but the vid is about Boss, who is deserving of his #20 ranking on the top 100 of all time.
elijah5674 2 years ago
Gretzky has the most empty net goals of all-time. Lemieux is in the top 5, can't remember exactly where. Not every goal is a highlight for anyone.
dsjunior1388 2 years ago
Good reasoning but it's flawed. You can't say Lemieux would have scored more because you are putting a guarantee on something that didn't happen. You base his goals by saying "Yes, his average wouldn't have dropped at all". That's like saying Gretzky could have scored more goals if played weaker goalies . Bottom line, Gretzky lasted longer and that's what made him great. If you use the Lemieux reasoning FOR Bossy, Bossy matches Gretzky's goal total while playing as many games as Lemieux
jvswerbo 2 years ago
OK I can see if your arguing about garbage goals, like if someone questions Dino Cicarrelli's goal scoring ability because there were a lot of cheap ones. but to criticize bossy because he scored "Mostly slapshots?" What the hell's wrong with having a great slap shot? That's ridiculous. And I can guarantee you Lemieux scored a few garbage goals out of his 690.

gretzky beat that by 11 games with 50 in 39....no one comes close to gretzky
goLEAFSgotc17 2 years ago
Bossy scored 50+ goals in all of his first 9seasons...even injured in his last season (at just age 30) was on pace for 48.
He played half as many seasons as Gretzky, in a more defensive conference. Had he played as many games, he was on pace for 1133 goals to Wayne's 894, 415 PIMs to Wayne's 577...not bad for a guy who actually played both ends ALL the time. Bossy NEVER fought, either, and further showed his class when he passed to a teammate (empty net) rather than 'break' Rocket's 50 in 50
elijah5674 2 years ago 2
@mricceo no, Gretz is the greatest for a multitude of reasons. No one has ever shone brighter and meant so much to so many as ole 99. Boss was good, he just asn't in Gretz class. That's not a put down of the Boss, no one is in Gretz class.

Winnipegger101 7 months ago
@Winnipegger101: Isn't Bossy's regular season per game scoring average higher than that of Gretzky? Comparing the Great One and Bossy is an apples and oranges comparison anyway, because Bossy retired very early, at age 30 or so, due to injuries, and thus didn't suffer an age-related decline in scoring as every player does. It seems pretty evident that there is no love lost between Bossy and Gretzky; Mike believes that his Islanders teams don't get their just due compared to Edmonton.

You either have a reading problem or an english language comprehension problem. Read my post again. Otherwise, i can't help you. Sorry.
You can't take one season (50 in 39) and trump a brilliant career. Selanne broke his rookie record. Is Selanne thus better than Bossy?

The 80s Islanders were the best hockey team to ever play in my opinion. They are the most underrated dynasty in history. Like the Soviets, they were years ahead of everyone else.
