Seriously, labelling the descent 'a stupid fucking snuff film' is childish and for a guy who watches a lot of crap I thought you'd appreciate a genuinely well crafted horror movie. Keep up the good work.
The Descent a snuff film? What?! I'd understand if you called Cannibal Holocaust or even Faces Of Death (Even though most of it is hilariously fake for today's standards, the bear attack scene is hilarious) snuff but calling The Descent snuff is just unfair.
Another pretty cool monster in the mines flick, is The Boogens(1981) it's got the same sort of feel to it..and Stephen King himself praises the film quite highly..
Have to disagree with you, labeling The Descent a stupid snuff film. To its credit at least The Descent had character development, if you want a stupid snuff film you need only look at its pointless sequel or its American rip-off The Cave.
Where do you get off calling something with no murder in alomost its first hour a snuff film? Come on man, The Descent is pretty much the best horror film to come out of the 00's.
That this is a student film reminds me of that 1970 film "Equinox", which was expanded from a 1967 student film "The Equinox." Both are in the Criterion Collection DVD release, and are similar to ""The Strangeness" in that you have people out in the woods who are being attacked by stop animation monsters. I actually like the original student film due to the atonal score and it avoids the horror movie cliches the expanded version has.
I have to say, I'm very surprised by your reaction to the Decent. I though it was very atmospheric and well written. As for the "snuff film" comment, I think if one was going to count the Decent as such, they'd also have to include at least 80% of the horror movies made in the past 40 years into the same category, which I think would be a bit extreme.
None the less still a fan, keep up the great reviews.

I think The Descent's excellent. It's objectively not a snuff film anyway.
