He refused to leave and only said "I'm going home" after he had hung around after being ordered to leave and been arrested for it. His obvious intent was to get himself arrested, and he escalated until it happened.

It's important that people record these incidents so we can judge for ourselves.
In this case I judge that the police acted appropriately. He was not arrested for wearing a shirt; he was asked to leave for carrying a knife into a crowd of people who he was openly trying to provoke.
He refused to leave and only said "I'm going home" after he had hung around after being ordered to leave and been arrested for it. His obvious intent was to get himself arrested, and he escalated until it happened.

This man broke no laws, the police were probably scared of the crowd, but they were wrong to arrest him.
As much as I hate to say it though they probably saved his life. How many times has black celebration in the streets turned to looting and such at the drop of a hat. Just one angry word by one of the young black people there and one swing of a fist and the white man would have been ganged up on and beaten, maybe to death.
