  • Why not just have the vehicle drive them like the first one they came up with. There are sure to be problems eventually and a blind person will wreck havoc

  • this is good idea but i still wont not want blind people on the road..think bout all the tech that went into the car and all the tech that can fail and how much would this car cost would the car insurence cover the blind would the health insurence pay for most of the car like Meds and the way the economy is today...dont think so..dont get me wrong were making cars better smarter faster but please keep the blind of the road

  • Wow, that is really awesome. I wonder if there are going to be some willing to enjoy a manual transmission.. Because I remember in an episode of Top Gear USA, Tanner Foust taught a blind man how to drive a manual, so I don't doubt their capabilities in that.

  • Whoa. That gave me chills. That's really amazing!

  • How exciting !!! The future is here ....

  • I want this in my car. And I have perfect vision.

  • I think that all cali drivers need this, ready to move to Colorado!

  • Regardless of what everyone things, I think this awesome technology and the effort was great, even if people don't think it is practical. JM2C

  • Google already has a car that drives itself, why is this needed?

  • @Boodieman72 Well it's for the experience, and independence. It's nice to be able to make your own choices in something where choice has been limited. Speaking as someone who's low vision, it's hard to have to depend on others for transportation. ParaTransit is nice but it's got a lot of faults (such as long wait times, being on a bus for four hours, etc). Public transit is doable but in my area? Good luck with it being efficient. LOL Cabs are expensive. See what I'm saying?

  • Top Gear UK already proved that the blind can drive

  • This technology still have lots of work needs to done on it. This technology could come true someday for the blind.

  • Rubish. Keep them on a closed circuit.

  • What a waste of time, resources and money. The nanny state will not even allow smoking or talking on your cell in cars do you really think they will allow blind drivers. Furthermore the cost of this technology is far more than the cost of supplying a driver for each blind person.

  • @TripleXXX8700 So true. I think a blind driver is more dangerous than me smoking weed and driving. So I dont see the point of this.

  • @TripleXXX8700

Why should a blind person have to have a driver?

  • @TripleXXX8700 Those things impair your focus. Blindness does not.

I'm not saying that they'll be all over the idea but let's not compare being blind to getting high or talking or even texting on a cell phone while driving. Or drunk driving or changing your pants while driving or sleeping while driving or anything equally ridiculous.

  • blind people driving cars on public highways. what could go wrong?

  • @arkansasrazorbackfan I know right. nothing at all..

  • @datpimpinboy Plus wouldn't this money have gone to better use to find a way to cure all types of blindness regardless of type or cause

  • @FantomLightning True man.

  • @FantomLightning Better use? Firstly, how much money have they used so far? I'm just asking because I'm willing to bet that you don't know. Secondly, you do know that research for "curing" the types of blindness is ridiculously expensive, correct? We're certainly making progress but we are nowhere near "curing" all the types of blindness. It would cost less money to design this car.

Plus you seem to have missed that this is also about developing new technology for the blind.
