  • very good movie and book im kind upset about the part that satsu was bathing. mount fuji lol well great both book and movie

  • I love John Williams, I believe that Memoirs of a Geisha is truly his best score!!

  • memoirs of a geisha is just pure beauty in a film - the music is sensantional - i entered a different world when i watched it for the first time XD the book's incredable too :)

  • ce tube me tuuuu

  • I love the book and I also love this movie, both are favorites.

  • I was surprised at how well the book coincided with the movie. Not much at all was left out besides basically the very beginning about Satsu and Chiyo. Great great great song, movie, and book. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good read.

  • Very nicely said i love the film and Im doing a geisha theme for a university project. If anyone has not watched the film or read the book then i would really recommend that you do there worth a read or watch they have not at all missed any details out. I even gonna lend it to my nan soon ;D

  • @SmaCCBG i dont even like to read and it was good... i even read it all the way through

  • I saw this movie and I readden the book too...is awesome...love the soooooong

  • most books written of the orient seem that way like Herman Hesse's Siddhartha. But this one really brought out the culture of Japan and allowed lots of readers from all over the world to appreciate it.

  • I love this song! It seems like traveling gracefully through time and space!

  • is it just me or has the picture changed?

  • I love this Melody...

  • all my respect for the componists !

  • By 'componistst' did you mean composers?

  • haha I think so.. my english is bad :D I'm from Germany xD

  • Kein problem. Ich bin Amerikaner. Ich kann etwas Deutsch, aber Sie sprechen English besser als ich Deutsch sprechen kann. However, I must say good guess. Wie sagt man composer auf Deutsch? (Bitte, korregieren Sie meine Fehler.)

  • auf deutsch heißt das Komponist ! Oh doch ich finde du kannst gut deutsch :)

  • Amazing, really I can listen to it the hole time. ♥

  • I don't speak english. So give me a break dude. --'

  • wat the fuck??

so if i say 'dude' ill sound like an american delinquent? how retarded does that sound

punks and alot more ppl say that.

Delphylicious dont listen to an ignorant!!!

  • It's exactly people like you who have such limited life experience that you think a lot of people say "dude." In your very limited world, I'm sure they do.

While you're at it, learn to spell, and please learn grammar before you post: Your phrase "...dont listen to an ignorant!!, " shows that you are ignorant. Ignorant is an adjective not a noun. No one can be an "ignorant."

  • It is correct to use an adjective as a noun in English. It's done all the time, especially referring to categories with certain characteristics, for example: "the land of the free and the home of the brave." In this phrase, "free" and "brave" are adjectives used as nouns. Sometimes you may also refer to a single member of the group, such as "a blonde," who is a member of the category "the blondes," and who is "blonde." So someone can be "an ignorant." They just never seem to know who they are.

  • omg...I cannot believe what I am reading :D You are expecting perfect english grammar on youtube? seriously?

someone has called you ignorant. It doesn't matter how. I think you got the message. Deal with it.

  • I can deal with it, no problem. Now, please go get a life.

  • ...i say dude all the time and I'm a nerdy goody two shoes girl. So do my other friends alot who are "goody goodies" too.

  • aw dont listen to that asshole.

  • Awesome!! It's verry beutiful song!

  • I have so much respect for the people who write soundtracks; this is such a dreamy song that really evokes a mood. It's incredible.

  • ohhh maaan

this song is so fucking beautiful....it makes me feel so damn good....i think every song makes you feel special...and this song makes you feel strong...it shows the meaning of being a geisha...:)) of being an artist who has to fight because i'm shure its not easy to be a geisha

  • excellent

  • I loove this movie, and the music is so beautiful!!

  • so exotic and dreamy like.. :)

  • its just such a gorgeous piece of music, it makes me wanna learn cello :D

  • i love the music in this movie.

  • Teh movie is AMAZING, I really love it.

It has a fantastic message and the actors are very good.

  • i think this movie is one of my favorites because of the meaning behind it and because of the way it portrays what a real geisha is, an artist not a prostitute, i love learning about different cultures too and japan's culture is one of my favorites

  • this is exactly the same as me :) japan is so amazing and unusual and i am obsessed with this book/film/music :D:D:D

  • I feel the exact same way!

  • arigato gosaimasu c:

  • this is the most beautiful peice of music i think it sends chills down alot of peoples spine's, this movie is truly beautiful and it is definatley my all time favourite.

  • Geisha (芸者) or Geiko (芸妓) are traditional, female Japanese entertainers, whose skills include performing various Japanese arts, such as classical music and dance. Contrary to popular belief, geishas are not prostitutes.

  • geishas are piece of art, they are entertainers of wealthy and old men, they sells their skills not their bodies, remember that is what the book said about them. a common prostitute is not going to study arts, it is not going to play shamisen in front of the people to find themselves like a entertainment, think about it seriously..... ignorant people who doesn´t know nothing about geishas are going to think that they are prostitutes. it doesn´t make sense.....

  • Geishas are a moving piece of art, not common prostitutes. but if they sell their virginity etc very fine line, Sayuri's sister became a prostitute? not her choice. Am just asking were do you become geisha or prostitute? Am asking as a someone who does not understand.

  • I agree, 1:50 - 2:06 is beautiful.

    Gorgeous piece of music!

  • my favorite parts

  • geisha's aren't prostitutes;

    There are women who dress like geisha's and are prostituts but they aren't geisha's;

  • Listen Between 0:50-1:06, it is so beautiful and dynamic guys!!!!!!

  • is really cool, the video and the music

  • My Favorite movie. I used this theme for a video a few years ago.

  • So beautiful music! I love her !

  • i like the music

  • Very beautiful music!

    **********

iwent a watched The Secret Life of Geisha-NBC

    and i learnt the truth

tst tst. i met some Geisha' and Maiko in Japan when i visited and they're very kind .

Good luck to you, maybe when i re visit Japan i'll see you as the number one geisha ;)

It'd be an interesting life...but im married so i dont think i'd be accepted as a maiko/geisha hehe

  • thank you, Arigato in japanese

  • SinclairCeltics1990 if you want a Geisha wife!! You have to be a King Right hand!! Can you..?? LOL

  • geishas dont become wifes, and if its only about appearance your not even worth their company

  • some do, it says in the book. the had to move away from the geisha district

  • one of my favorite movies!!

  • this movie was one of the best i've seen =]

ziyi zhang must of went thru A LOT to play this part

  • the book is 1,000,000,000x better!

  • Search "The Secret Life of Geisha-NBC" on youtube. The movie and book both are good, but they're purely fictitious and present very inaccurate depictions of traditional Japanese culture.

  • well, it IS a NOVEL. Arthur Golden did say he wasn't accurate... read the acknowledgements.

  • I cried when I found out the beautiful book was fictional..

  • i love this song it's beautiful, how do you search???????? please

  • I love japanese culture so much, full of honor, discipline. Their ways of doing.

    Respect for Japan.

Btw ifrom what movie is this music from? I like it.

  • Comment removed

  • It's from Memoirs of a Geisha :)

  • Thanks, I'm going to see the film as fast as possible,

  • This is from Memories of a Geisha, a movie based on the novel by Arthur Golden.

  • I love Japan and Japanese culture and geisha and Japanese things.

of course I like memories of a geisha but I don't like Zhang Ziyi.. D: sorry!

  • You don't like ZIYI ZHANG?! Sacrilege!

Well, each his own, I guess!

  • I wish I knew more about Japanese culture. What I've seen of it is so beautiful.

  • I love Japanese anything! :D

  • Japan is a GORGEOUS country, love to go back someday.

  • Me too ;) Love the wareshunobu-haircut the most ^^ Sad enough I live in Holland..

  • I want to be a Geisha

  • Me too :D

  • ME THREE!:D

  • OMG!!! Three!!!!! :D

  • me tooo i just love japan. everything in this country is so full of art and elegance.and the geishas are so beautiful.i'm in love with them,i want to be one of them. how i wished that. but i'm from romania,so i just watch them and learn about them.i hope one day i'll go to see the geishas.i want that sooo much

  • me too

  • so beautiful... i can sit and listen to this and just think.... :')

  • yes me too,, when i'm alone and want to think i put this song on and listen to it :D

  • very prettyful ^^

  • Nel tempio c'è una poesia intitolata " la mancanza" incisa sulla pietra. Ci sono tre parole ma il poeta le ha cancellate. Non si può leggere la mancanza, solo avvertire.

  • i love the song^^ thanks for uploading it! :)

  • Me encaantan estas peliculas, son bellisimas. I love this kind of movies, are excellents, beautifuls.

  • Questa storia è fantastica!film bellissimo!

  • Who is on the picture?

  • Sayuri (played by Ziyi Zhang) from the film.

  • Memoirs of a geisha the author put the orginal geisha's name in and ruined her ! like that was seriously awfull how could someone abuse this woman's secret of a geisha and despose her and i whatched a video and someone said to her to commite suicide ? like she did nothing wrong the author just ruined her and the author told her he would promise like thats awfull very low author!

  • Because he didn't care obviously and just wanted the money. Did you see that show they had where they interviewed her? She is shunned by her entire community now and I feel so bad for her. =[

  • i love this movieee & the music in it iss soo peaceful and sweet awh i love it

  • memoirs of a geisha is a true story it was a few years before and during world warII.

every thing that happened in the movie actually happened.

  • urg you dumb fuck.

  • sayuri did get 2 be with her loved 1, she did O.o did the chairmen not kiss her and go 2 u.s and have a son and all that XD

  • As a work of complete fiction, I enjoyed it. I liked the music in the movie, too.

It has geisha COMPLETELY wrong, and Golden is a pompous jerk, but if you treat it as a fairytale it's tolerable.

  • NO, STUPID! It got geisha fairly right! U dnt no shit! Course its a "fairytale" and a bit over the top but it really explains a geishas life...

  • When I was a little girl I was always told that Cinderella was a beautiful story on how a poor girl becomes a somebody. Cinderella is great...but Memiors Of A Geisha really beats Cinderella. I loves the movie it really stands out from all those other romance movies and books out there.

  • Only that this japanese " cinderella " hasn't ended up with her loved one .... at least that is what i saw xD

  • cool i love it :D

  • I love this song...the very beginning is my favorite part. So enchanting.

  • this is beautiful music!

  • 非常棒的音樂

    優美的音樂呈現出古典日本美的感動

    謝謝傳上來的人

  • This song is so pretty!

  • I meditate to this song! It helps me sooo much!

  • the song is beautiful

  • makes me cry

  • I simply love this music

  • I love this song, you just want to close your eyes and image yourself as a beautiful Geisha.

    Vary relaxing and calming.

  • i love this song

    its beautiful,calming,relaxing

  • i love this song it's so peaceful and calming.

  • always again and again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love the Geisha culture!!!!!! yo bad im not asian XD

  • i totaly love this world

  • I absolutely ADORE this song. The book fantastic. This music really touches something inside me.

  • This is my favorite piece from the soundtrack..I have the entire soundtrack on my ipod but I love this one the most...such a serene yet vibrant piece..it sometimes puts me to sleep because it's just that calming and mellow...John Williams is the best composer out there..

  • I'm reading the book....read it people, it rocks. It still amazing to me how an AMERICAN MAN can write so convincingly as a JAPANESE WOMAN!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • His book is touching, and the movie is really good, but both his book and the movie aren't exactly correct(in the sense of culture, costumes, etc)..not that you need those things, I suppose, to make a good story.

  • the white guy just interview a real geisha, Iwasaki Mineko (her character is based on Sayuri/Chiyo)

  • I just finished the book Iwasaki Mineko wrote not that long ago. It cleared alot of things up for me. I found the book she wrote clear alot of things up.

  • Iwasaki Mineko is a girl

  • yeah, I read Geisha, a life after I read Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha and I liked it. I did clear a lot of things up. I love Memoirs though too.

  • sadly a lot of people in western society still believe Geisha to be a high class prostitute like several movies show, however they are not. Their name litterally means, "art person/doer" artist. I am happy to hear that you looked further into it.

  • i loved memoirs of a geisha, both the book and the movie. they were both touching and brilliant. i envy geishas since they can learn the arts and dance ^^; but just a bit. i'd love to try on some of their exquisite kimonos though! :D

  • beautiful

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! How can somebody compose such great and deep music! This piece goes perfect with the movie! It truly does. ♥

  • magic world

  • GEISHA

    Si tan solo hubieras preguntado......

No sería difícil vestirse capa tras capa de ausencias,

cepillar los cabellos con mares de ansiedades,

alargar las uñas con esmaltes y corales,

desgastar el calzado sin pisotear los sueños,

rizar abanicos de sales, delinear espejos dormidos.

    FANNY JEM WONG

  • i love him to!

  • john williams is the best composer of the modern times...i ♥ his music so much^.^

  • i love this song! from the movie [:

  • i love this music will all my heart!!!

    i don't know why.

    so mezmorizing!

    :]

  • The music ist great ... I love it.x3

  • damn, i wathced this movie yesterday in free tv and it was just...so...amazing...

at the end i was crying :3

    because of that wonderful music...

  • yes well they dont actually get paid by there danna, they recieve gifts from there danna, like beautiful kimono and hair combs and sometimes even makeup, although makeup to them is like a bra, very personal, so they dont recieve that often haha

  • nothing is bad with geisha... infact the very word geisha means artist... if you read the book it explains the whold thing so i suggest you read it... they are artistic in every way and every single one of them has a story. they only sell themsevels once, for there mizuagae (virginity)

  • but also to their danna

  • You got that wrong. HORRIBLY wrong. There's no such thing as a mizuage as described in the movie or the book. Geisha never sell their virginity, Oiran (Japanese courtesans) do. There IS a coming-of-age ceremony for Maiko when they reach puberty, but it doesn't involve selling their virginity, there's a party and gifts are received.

  • Well, this was a true memoir taken from a person who went through it all, wasn't it? It has to be true. Certainly, she couldn't have been lying about her past..?

  • This isn't. If you have the book, take a look at the acknowledgements. It's clearly stated that Sayuri and the reat are all fictional characters. Mineko Iwasaki, the former geisha whom Arthur Golden interviewed for most of the book, even filed a lawsuit against him; partly for naming her in the acknowledgements despite her demands for anonymity and partly for defaming Geisha and and Japanese culture. Look up "Mineko Iwasaki" on Wikipedia and you'll know what I mean.

  • No. Arthur Golden interviewed a real geiko, but he warped a lot of the facts and changed things around to make a story. He actually got sued by said geiko for defamation of character because he got it so wrong that she started receiving death threats for "helping" him with his book.

  • your horribly wrong

  • If you have the book, take a look at the acknowledgements. It's clearly stated that Sayuri and the reat are all fictional characters. Mineko Iwasaki, the former geisha whom Arthur Golden interviewed and based most of the book on, even filed a lawsuit against him; partly for naming her in the acknowledgements despite her demands for anonymity and partly for defaming Geisha and and Japanese culture. Look up "Mineko Iwasaki" on Wikipedia and you'll know what I mean.

  • YOU SAY they are wrong but you cant say how or why.

  • there wrong becuase ya the character sayuri isant real but the whole story is

  • See: The lawsuit between Iwasaki Mineko and Arthur Golden.
