  • i will try...thank you

  • this was shocking.

  • ewww not good sorry

  • My dog barks at cars and cars, he even goes for them sometimes.... how can I stop this

  • @clone9907 my dog did that too dont let her sleep with anyone when she wines. Send her out to go to the bathroom, and then give her something to be occupied with, such as a toy or food, then you should be quiet, because she might bark if she hears you. If she still doesnt shut up, leave her, she'll learn although its annoying!

  • @Clone9907 my dog did that too, make sure you dont let her sleep with you or anyone else when she does barks. You can let her outside to go to the bathroom, give her something to be occupied with, such as food or a toy, and if your dog still does it, just leave her, she will learn although its annoying

  • So when the dog does something good you pet it? Genius! I love expert village!

  • My freaking beagle puppy is so anooying, at night we put her in her cage and she whines to much, how can I stop her

  • Would have been nice to see you dog a practical demonstration on a dog that was barking. But thanks for your effort.

  • wow his ear isnt gone by the end of the video hahah

  • What are you doing with the dogs ear

  • Thank you for the details

  • that dog looks like a jackal

  • If you want to stop your dogs barking, you have to ignore it when it barks.. that way your dog understands that if it barks, it wont get any attention. If it barks ind you yell "shut up" or "be quiet" the dog thinks your 'barking' too, and you tell it to bark even more because the threat is near and dangerous.

  • IT Seems impossible to train a bilingual dog! I can't train to sit even!

  • I think this only worked in 2002. Its 2011, im pretty sure we have an App for that.

  • I've heard on several different occasions that you shouldn't mess with a GSD's ears. Is it okay after they're older?

  • Your going to kill that dog with petting!

  • Thanks for the video short and sweet. I have three dogs of my own man they are so energetic but also territorial. Any tips on how to fix that problem

    Thanks

  • Haha his petting the dog to death lol.

  • Seriously! He's abusing the poor dog's ears!!

  • I love the videos they're very informative keep up the great work expertvillage

  • can you show us?? o.o

  • that would work if my dog wasnt a super fiesty yorky. already tried that.

  • I think what he said is pretty reasonable.

  • thnx

  • i love when he does a little drum roll on the dog at the end

  • thanks for the suggestion i will give it a try.

  • I didn't know a dog could be so hard to keep your paws off of... I feel stupid using such a stupid phrase. "Paws off"

  • please help I got my puppy in the winter time now that the weather is getting nice I would like him to be a outside but whenever I put him in the back yard he whines and cries. How can I train him to be an outdoor dog?

  • @weightloss220 don't 'kick' the dog outside, but go with him and take his favorite toy(s) with you. Let him make the move too play with the toy(s) by showing them, if the dog needs more stimulation you can ask with a high pitched voice if "he wants the toy/it".

After the dog played for a while leave and go inside around the corner so the dog can't see you, stay out of sight for a short while (1 - 3 min.). After you come back play with the dog again, you will have to repeat this a couple of times

  • thanks for the pet uploads - I love your taste

  • A noisy barking dog can sometimes be annoying not only to you but to neighbors as well. Keeping your dog well behaved is keeping them always happy. Thanks for sharing.

  • Careful when training your dog not to bark, because he might not bark when you need him to.

  • give him a break

  • nice

  • mabye he didnt stop stroking the dog because he wanted to comfort him from the scary car sounds he is an expert

  • Hi JIm!

  • this is wrong if someone breakes in you expect your dog just to let the person kill you

  • Great vid! Really nice to have this info here. well done!

  • doesn't work with mine

  • Keep your fingers from the dogs sensitive ears.

  • @kurtelarsen is this for all dogs? i don't understand. sorry, first time dog owner

  • @kurtelarsen not like he's plowing the fingers into the ears. dogs bite each others ears when they play with each other and I usually kinda pulls my dogs ears a little when I play so he feels like he's playing more like a dog does.

  • not even your dog pay attention how am going to pay you attention

  • @vanuvius not a good idea, then you are teaching your dog to associate the muzzle with being in trouble, you never want to have a dog be afraid of a training aid or a teaching tool..

  • if only dogs could speak english...

  • cool :)

  • I'll give it a try

  • what if theyre small obnoxious dogs :P

  • Is it normal that my 4 month old beagle(female) is humping me?

  • @speedomike747 No. It's impossible to diagnose over the internet, but could be that she is testing your limits, or worse, it could be a sign of anxiety. When she does that you should turn away from the dog and walk away, ignoring the behaviour. It won't take long before she realises humping is not a way of getting your attention.

When she behaves correctly, respectfully and pays attention to you, reward her with play, cuddles and treats. That will improve her confidence in both you and herself.

  • i guess you just have to rub his ears constantly

  • When I got my dog it never barked

  • hi i have four basset hounds that stay with us as pets and two rescued bassets we are taking care of one of our keep dogs is not fixed and one of the rescues isnt fixed there are a total of three girls and three boys only one of the males is fixed heres my problem every time the two males see each other my male starts barking and since they live under the same roof its hard too get him to stop we got him a shock collar but all he does is shock the crap out of himself till his legs start shaking

  • If he's on a leash and you're using a choker (i believe that's what it's called in English) just give the leash a small jank, depending on the size of your dog ofcourse but don't jank it too hard, just correct him/her :)

  • Dogs bark because they have something to say. Mine bark when they need to go outside to relieve themselves. That is far superior to the alternative. Telling the dog "No!" is a lousy idea. Either it will be interpreted as a threat or it will think you are barking with the dog. You cannot deal with undesired barking without understanding what the dog is trying to say. The way to keep a dog from barking to go outside for non-pressing reasons is to make the inside a happy, interesting place.

  • simply wait until the barking or crying STOPS, and then reward...... just requires will power and patience on the trainers (your) part

  • nice dog

  • mustve been like 95 degrees there

  • thats a pure bred german sheppard (:

but you shouldnt teach ur dog to NOT bark

bcuz they need to protect their territory

and since you taught them not to bark then

they wont protect their terrirtoyry as muchh :(

  • Is that dog called "Bear and Tess"? haha funny

  • How do I train 2 dogs to get along...?

They fight like stupid.Sooner or later, they will have to live together....

  • wow that looks just like my dog, IDENTICAL

  • thanks for that lesson

  • @burninforyou Actually, they are very well socialized! They're really great dogs too, very well behaved, very smart, and very loveable. I love them to death. We recently found that a good old squirt bottle helps xD My dog Buddy just has to see it to be quiet, and it's quite nice how it works!!

I wish I could take Buddy for walks, I know he's bored, we try to let him sit outside as much as possible, but when I try to play with him or take him for walks, he's old and stops breathing! :(

  • can we turn off the words?

  • expert village... why did i even bother watching this vid :( this channel always let my hopes up and i get nothing useful most of the time :(

  • my puppy always trying to leave the house is there any training?

  • dont use a stern voice cause the dog thinks your barking at him/her then it thinks its alright to bark cause your doing it to

  • thanks but how do u know wat the dog is thinking and i have a german shepard too

  • well what if you want the dog to bark when they want to go out if your not right there or if someone is coming up to the door so your notified?

  • thanks my dog wont bark when hes in the house but at night when he goes out he starts barking and wakes up all the nabors whatshould i do

  • i have a german shepard too

  • how about going to a dog you have not met b4 and get that to stop barking then i maight of learned something here........

  • Anyway i wanted to tell u guys and let u know all this, cause i can see that ur all conserned about this metter and i understand, i would be too if i would be thinking some1 is shockin his dog in alternative to other ways of training, thinkin the person is incompetable....it is not the case :) Different kind of breeds, different demands, aproaches and of course cases.

  • I can say that the collar allowed him to be free because he learned the self-contorl part, he gained confidence and now knows what to do and not to do without even tellin him ( by the way, this sheperd learned his basic commends within seconds).

  • We live in the middle of downtown and they are always exposed to a lot of different situations, i am reponsible for them and i must have the control of the situation at any time. By the way the sheprd that i used the collar on to succesfully rapidly train him changed 5 homes and i had fostered him all that time, we ended up keeping him cause we knew he didnt have much chance of finding the right owner that can handel him at the SPCA, and big dogs get put down very fast anyway.

  • I was forced to use the e-collar, it was the only way of saving this dog. At 10 months he couldnt be walked on the street and he had no self control what so ever because he didnt have any kind of basic training previously. I must remind u that its a sheperd,a hearding dog, very powerful,he has a lot of energy to spend,he is very agile and always on the move. He is impossible to catch !

  • That's exactly the point: it's uncomfortable, so the dog doesn't want to bark to cause the uncomfortable sensation. The difference is that a dog doesn't HAVE to bark: it's not like it's a collar that shocks them when they eat or drink.

  • @Matyme would you prefer that she surrender her dog to the shelter and have it killed than to use an e-collar? many owners don't have time the time to train their dog through positive reinforcement only training because it takes a very long time, and the neighbors just aren't willing to wait that long.

  • @Jelena0788 agreed, many dogs find barking more rewarding than praise

  • LOL. couldn't stop laughing at his constant patting of the dog!

  • Thats because the dog is trained.

  • Know, dogs like being petted, it's like a massage. They will let you know when they are annoyed by a growl or attempt to get away.

  • that dog is deffiently unsure with whats going on, hes panting with his mouth wide open, licking his lips, looking away and focusing away, and doing the whale eye. He doesnt look very confident..

  • He is panting and licking his lips because he is probably too warm. What do you think he should be focusing on? His owner just looks like he is conversing with the camera man, the dog is just happy to be getting petted by his owner. He doesn't know he is being filmed, I think he's probably fine.

  • you know in all your vids

i never see that dog wag his tail

  • hey guy, why don't you fondle your balls instead of annoying that poor dog with all that rubbing

  • The dog is fine. He probably just thinks of it as a massage. My dog paws at people until she gets stroked.

  • I see a nerves guy.... and hes petting the dog nervously, The dog was somewhat scencing those waves...

  • What Dog do u have i have a staff

  • lol my think its depend on the dogs breed the hunter dogs barks alot and the family dogs are more quite then hunter dogs

like lebrador and german shefred dog.

the hunter dogs are always be more alert then family dogs. my english is not good sorry.

  • Hehehe, the dog is going to have floppy ears by the time that guy is done petting them.

  • Well my dog always barks wehen I make her sit down and go away in the dog park.

My dogs now 6 years old and I can`t stop her doing it until now... also my trainers are desperate ^^ I`ve tried all techniques I´ve heard about, nothing can help me

And it has nothing to do with less training, she just doesn`t want to stop doing that, even she knows she shouldn`t do it

  • There 'are' little devices I`ve heard of that you put up in your backyard, and when dogs bark it emits a high sound only they hear, that they don`t like, and trains them to not bark.

  • cookie wont shut up D:

  • the dog liked it, who cares?

  • Great;)

  • coool

  • a very important tip, dont get an inbred ( there wrongly called pedigrees ) and you wont have to train it. !

  • dude, the guy's a trainer. he doesnt have any bad dogs.

  • If you train a dog not to bark , when theres an intruder or danger ect ..

will the dog remain silent or will his / hers natural instinct kick in and there reaction will we a bark ?

  • But how do you get a dog to stop barking when it barks constantly, 24/7, non stop, whenever you are gone from the house? Shock collar?

  • i like it when my puppy barks, he's 3 months old, small & sooo cute (:

so yeeuh.. when he barks.. it's like.. aaaw (:

  • yeah, don't spoil him though.

  • Lol, how..?

  • How do you spoil a dog ? :S

  • my dog barks back at me when i tell him no, or quiet when hes barking...

  • yeah, you got a problem there, he's dominant, go read some about how to be top dog, or "alpha". you don't want him to think he has a right to bite you. that's when it gets ugly.

  • ahh! i always say the "NO!" part but i never reward her silence! i also turn her on her back with her tummy upwards (sign of submission in doggy language, right?) this will come in handy! thanks!

  • awesome video

  • then how would you know if the dog has to pee? mine barks at the door till we take her, is it possible to teach the dog not to bark only at some times? and if so, how?

  • if your dog barks to go out you've probably missed the signals(waiting by the door, running around, etc), my boxers will only bark to go out if they're desperate. But stopping barking constantly is usually easy, ignore them,it sounds stupid but they're normally only barking for attention, and if you give them attention they learn barking is the way to get it, making them the boss because they're giving an order and you're obeying.

  • actually my dog dosn't ever bark for attention and ignoring the dog is neglecting it...letting it bark is neglect but tech it right is treating and hounouring it! it will stop if you ignore it, but it will be sad! (my dog barks only when it sees cars or hears people outside our house or if someone comes in the house)

sorry if this sounds rude! it was in no intention to be rude!

  • I agree ignoring your dog completely is neglecting it, but what i said about ignoring it doesnt mean all the time, but that you ignore a dog while it's barking and praise it for being quiet, and no the dog wont be sad, yes it will go and curl up maybe even looking sad but it's thinking. after about a minute you can call it and give it a fuss. barking when someone comes to the house is not always a bad thing, as long as it's under control when people come in it's letting you know someones there.

  • Your dog can give other warnings! mine waits quietly at the door or brings his leash to us when he has to pee! if you teach him to be quite, after he is quite reward him by taking him for a walk! that will teach him to not bark, but still give warnings!

  • learn how to spell or don't write anything.... and he knows what hes talking about.... I've trained more then 30 dogs in my life and hes accurate...

  • I think the camera must have unnerved the trainer, hence the generous rub on the dogs ears

  • I'm buying a dog for the first time....how do I train it to poop outside?? Also, which dogs can i keep outside???

  • For a short video, you do give good info. The point is, don't reward bad behavior in your dog. It would be great if the snarky commenters could walk away having learned something, but you can't teach everyone! ;)

  • my dog does not like to be outside himself and will not stop barking do you have any advise

  • my affen loves when I rub behind his ears, then he stops barking for like a week.

  • it worked but, i took a while

  • they love their ears rubbed. at least my 6 dogs do

  • its does work wow

  • quick question: dogs naturally dislike being hugged. is there a proper way to hug your dog?

i have been hugging my dog since he was a little puppy, and this is the first time he reacted negatively.

  • After some in-depth research I can tell you all that we are looking at it the wrong way. Apparently the dog has been working hard for a couple of months now at training Jim to present video training blogs.

    Well done Fido, nearly there!

  • no demo?

  • You don't need a demo. He explained it very well. For example if someone had just rang the doorbell and your dog bolts to the door barking like mad, tell him "No!", or whichever word works for you. When he stops barking reward him - via treat, petting, whatever.

In time your dog will understand that being quite makes him get positive reinforcement while barking does not, which will cause him to stop barking.

  • Of course if you WANT your dog to bark then you encourage it. Isn't that pretty obvious? He talked about unwanted barking in the video, that's why he says to discourage barking and encourage silence.

  • Yeah. It is really important not to do that, especially with German Shepherds ears. :/ Though his advice is alright, there are better.

  • The fella is spot on, you NEVER reward the wrong behaviour. That's absolutely basic!!

  • he actually did tell you how to teach ur dog to stop barking. You have just got to stop rewarding and correct the un wanted behavour in the moment, I also think giving your dog a lot of excercise at least 45mins a day will help with it, cause the dog usually barks to release all that built up energy.

  • i understand what your saying but you didn't tell me how train the dog to stop barking.

  • i think that dogs barking freely is not a good thing. it is kinda a dogs way of ordering you around, like c'mon throw the ball. or if its barking at other dogs to play or whatever. in a pack of wolves, the lower dogs would not be allowed to bark like crazy at the alpha. i think it can help to gain dominance over your dog, that can help them to listen to you when you tell them to stop. ya know??

  • can anyone help to keep my dog from digging? he's a about 1 years old half cocker spanial and unknown. but he digs alot though. I tried almost everything that it said online but no luck :(

  • Fill the areas that he digs with his poop and cover it with dirt. I read that on a dog training site and while it seemed weird to me, it worked.

  • yeah rschwark's method might work. but when my golden was a digger, when she would start digging, we would grab her by the collar and shove her nose in the whole and tell her "bad" "no dig". you dont have to be cruel about it. they just dont like having their face shoved in it, but it doesn't hurt them. also if your outside and they start digging, say NO and lead them inside immediately by the collar or leash

  • there is an overpopulation of animals and the ones that dont want them are forced to put up with their neighbors dogs. there needs to be laws against this and the animal control officers aren't holding up the laws in their areas

  • I'm okay with dog barks, IF I hear or see the owner trying to quiet the dog.

I get upset when the dog owners are careless and inconsiderate to the quiet enjoyment of others.

I have a neighbor who used to try to calm his dog down everytime. And rather than feeling bitter at the barking, I feel appreciative of the nighbors considerateness. Now, the neighbor lets his dog bark freely, and my anger boils like ever.

  • Me, too. I always rub his nose in whatever spills out of his head.

  • well shouldn't you already figure out why he's barking? I mean, it depends, like if your dog got it from another dog and learned it from him/her (thats how my dog got it). or if the dog was traumatized or something. this method works actually. my dog is as quiet as a mousy :) sometimes xD when I accidentally step on him.

  • Not a very good video. When my dog barks. I taught him a word command that he understands to stop barking. Our word command it "Leave it". When he doesn't bark, then I tell him "Yes" then give him a treat. When he hears "Yes", then he knows that he's done something right.

  • le va a arrankar las orejas al pobre perro!!! ke le pasa!!

  • thats more impossible for pitbulls

    we have 3 pitbulls

    and 1 samoyed

the only one that could follow was our samoyed.she knows many tricks

  • Excellent training tips!

  • i cant believe put these little electrick shock things that activate when the do barks

  • I think we will use the word "quiet" or the phrase "settle down." we need to reward them more when this works. thanks.

  • yea im not going to hit my dog either because obviously i think thats cruel and it is and sureley there not gonig to love you if you smack them, so anyone have any idea to stop it barking.

  • yea that wasnt much help at all my dog keeps barking if you say NO or STOP and ive never rewarded her when shes barking

  • Same here.

  • Wow, zrobe, I didn't think someone else would agree with me that this video didn't help much. I have a BAD barker, he barks at anything and everything, so if we have a guest in the house, its a nightmare! We've never praised a bark if its someone at the door or a cat he's seen in the garden through the patio doors, and same with mine, you say "no" or "stop", he'll stop but then start up again.

  • i constantly touch my dogs, its the fur. i cant help it! xD so sooooft! especially the ears. they are always softer than the rest of the body! xD

  • good video

  • Im trying to teach my dog to shake. I put one of his treats tucked under my hand, Then i let him sniff it so he will paw at it. But, he simply licks my hand until i have to give the treat to him so he will quit licking me!

  • Ok, my dog barks when we leave for church and come to find out, he barks the whole time we are gone! He is quiet and NEVER barks when we are with him, even if a stranger comes to the door. So what can I do to stop the barking, seeing that we live in an apartment?

  • If he's barking while you're out, it is probably separation anxiety causing it. Maybe he would be happy if you got him a kong type chew toy. Put some peanut butter, or high value treats in it and give it to him a while before you go out.

I also got a GSD to stop barking by first training him to bark when I asked him to, then right away I trained him to mumble or whisper. Make quieter noises more rewarding. Best reward is the kong with high-value treats inside for him to chew on.

  • another way to tell them to stop is to say SSSSTT in a very loud voice.

  • "no" wait for the dog to stop barking.. than give treat.

  • Samer here, we keep her doing it for the burglars, but we never engourage her, but tell her to shut up if its too loud or too long

  • What if your dog is barking at someone trying to break into your house? What if the dog hears someone outside that could be trying to break into your house..? You are training the dog to not bark at all period?

  • He's training the dog not to Bark like crazy when there's nothing to Bark at.

It's your job to check why your dog is barking.

  • yeah that works really well with puppies :]

I tried it on mine and he just loves to play

but still he is fidgety when it comes not to bark. lol i think he just wants the world to know that hes the boss. hah :]

  • So? This video isn't about having the perfect obedient dog. It's about barking.

  • Yes, I use this method. I just ignore while the dog barks for my attention & after a while, she realizes that I WON'T give her any attention whatsoever, not even a scolding or a "NO" becoz that way I'm also giving her attention. When she stops, sits or lays down, I go towards her & reward. It's working really well & she now barks much lesser!!!

  • it made perfect sense to me. if you shout no, then it encourages them to bark at you because you are the pack leader.

  • It would prove his abilities. Besides, it does not take long to get a dog to stop barking if trained correctly. A couple of minutes at best (if that long) - all he has to do is get the dog to stop and say "That's how you do it!", not create a perfect obedience animal for us.

  • mw dog is a good dog he is good wit other dogs and people he just can't learn to shut up when a car goes by

  • my dog barks so loud that a simple no or stop or whatever doesn't enter his head. So picking a word---which I tried does ZERO!

  • hey, i know where they shot this!!!!!! i go to this dog park alot!!!

  • For me that was helpful. My dog always barks when we have visitors and on walks and things. My breeder and parents think it's okay to let him because he's just nervous, but he is a naughty dog! He knows he shouldn't but he likes barking. It's good to know he won't be damaged if I try this method.

  • my dog barks because he likes to be inside its weird i take outside to pee and poo then the moment he walks into the house he poos and pee!

  • thanks

  • so how do you get the dog to not bark when your gone? like if its in the backyard and someone walks by ur fence and they bark at the people walking by. how do you stop that?

  • It is a little annoying but I do that all the time to my dog and he likes it. My dog also likes getting a belly rub O.o

  • So it's annoying but he likes it, huh? Let the dog speak for himself. If it's annoying why don't you stop doing it. A dogs ears shouldn't be constantly under attack.

  • My Dog barks when he wants to go outside to poop and wee. This is good else I would not know he wanted to go out.

  • i actually think it would be counter productive to demonstrate a bad behaviour on a dog already trained to not do it. its good to keep your hands on your dog. your dog should be fine with all the attention i do this to my puppy so in case she is ever around little ones who don't understand that they shouln't always pet won't nip at the little ones or care. i don't think any of you should own a dog by the sounds of it

  • I wonder if he stopped petting the dog, what the animal would do. Does he pet the dog continuously so he doesn't bark - ruining the so called 'How to Train a Dog to Stop Barking' video? Maybe a demonstration would be best.
