It really is a nice effect, but I've found you can get more of the massive swooning sounds out of the Digiverb. The delay is awesome but you can sort of hear the choppiness of it, rather than the fluidity. That's not to say that all shoegaze has to sound like that though. Great video.
The settings aren't in here, or in the info. And when you say it is a Digitech Delay pedal, which one are you referring to? There are quite a few out there, I have the Digidelay and it is pretty flipping awesome. But I'm more of a Cocteau Twins fan and I guess I love to have like 1 or 2 choruses stacked on top of a delay or 2, with a flange option and a distortion option too. My Boss ME-X pedalboard has a badass pitchshifter in it, I have a video up of me showing off what it can do.
I just use two pedals myself. One of which I don't really need. I just use a modded Metal Zone on max bass with a bit of compression and send it through my Micro Cube's cheap reverb effect. Works for me. Still want a good Reverb/Delay pedal and a Graphic Equalizer to dial everything, but my MT-2 seems to carry m sound just fine for now. :) You're on to something with this one pedal thing.
I get your point that you can get a really cool sound out of just one pedal, but there is no mystery or complexity behind your guitar sound; even people who don't play guitar can tell it's just a bunch of echoes.
Now, if you threw a reverb on there, and another slower, delay effect, then you'd have something interesting.
This isn`t me showing off guitar prowess, that was never the point. I, being a shoegaze guitar fan, was just seeing ALOT of videos on here that had at least like 5-7 pedals to create a shoegaze sound. Now while this is the way that most bands i`m sure did it or are still doing it, you don`t have to take a bank loan out to do so. Just trying to show people this to maybe inspire more people to use the pedals they have to a different extent or kinda inspire them to think outside the box a little.
I use a Danelectro DC-59 for my shoegaze/noise rock stuff. Very unique clean tone and it copes well with massive amounts of square wave fuzz effects. The Jazzmaster and Jaguars aren't really THE shoegaze guitars tone-wise, they've just become icons of the genre. I still want one ;)
ehh not really, a delay does one thing and a tremolo does another. I have heard of shoegazing bands utilizing tremolo though so I guess it comes down to what sound you want to get.
You know I hadn`t even seen a DD-20 until the other day and I dunno i`m ready to go that extensive with my delay. I`m really happy with what I can get this pedal to do, the only thing I really don`t like about it is you HAVE to have a power source for this and the Digiverb more or less because of it being digital not analog it`ll suck batteries really fast. The Tonebone I actually just searched for seeing as how I hadn`t even heard of that one yet.
I`m still kinda undecided on distortion even after having a DS-1 and Big Muff, I`m considering maybe a Boss Metal pedal in my future, who knows. And yeah I got the delay and reverb ones merely for doing the shoegaze thing.
The Metal pedal will do it. No doubt about it. I mean, I play bass but even I can get a WALL of sound out of the little thing with the right eq. It's a hideous pedal to look at, but I swear by it for sure.
I only have the white American Strat you see in my videos, but I really want a Jazzmaster. And yeah, the DD-20 is a bit overkill, but I figure I'd never have to look at another delay pedal ever again, and it doubles as a modulation pedal and would be fun to play around with all the ridiculous settings and long ass delays.
And seriously, the Tonebones are amazing, I wondered if the whole "tube pedal" was hype bullshit, and maybe it is, but it just sounds so fucking incredible.
Yeah i`ve got a standard white strat too that I bet you`ll see one day. I actually play the reg standard strat a little bit more than that Les Paul I have but that`s such a out of the blue bargain I won`t give it up, I still keep her around. And yeah i`m still trying to find out all the little things with that Digitech every once in awhille i`ll get it to do something I didn`t know it did.
I think that whole tube pedal thing probably is hype bullshit, mainly just for people who don`t have a tube amp or a cheaper means of somebody acquiring that sound for cheaper. I however have the Hotrod so that`s not a prob and there`s a Twin Reverb at my disposal because of who I practice with then on top of that I found one in my aunts basement (no lie) I`ll post about it later when I find the time. Imagine the luck finding a 1950`s tube amp right across your own fucking street.
Yeah and if I could have a Jazzmaster, oh god... my girlfriend knows i`d cream myself over a guitar like that, I`d even settle for a Jaguar but like a Jazzmaster way more. Seen em around and they`re always at least a grand.
you don't need a jazzmaster to rock out. sonic youth and mbv only had them because they were affordable. the irony is that everybody wants them now. i had a Gibson SG before i ever heard of MBV and it produces great "shoegaze" tones. your musical ideas will exist independently from any equipment you have.
I actually heard lee ronaldo say he just liked the jazzmaster so i dunno if it was only price. I just like the idea of the fender sound with the whammy bar that the guitar was made to be used and not go out of tune like the others. To do that detuning chord sound MBV had.
I heard this effect on the first album by KINSKI! Love it!

could one get a shoegaze sound out of recording the guitar into a software program and using delays/reverbs/tremolos on there?
UltimateVenom 1 year ago
i hear some tremolo, am i correct? I take it that's from one of the digidelay's modes

@cardigansarecool Thanks, I have the digiverb as well. Cool little pedal, it`s fun to mess with the reverse reverb.

@33jordo33 Oh god I think it`s D to like A6 or something then it`s just an E chord walked down from the 5th fret.

I have this pedal. It's cool to use on the mod delay and you just shorten up your time and repeat knobs, and crank your level knob.
Well done.

They range in all sorts of prices, this one is a little pricey, think I paid like 140 or so for this one

I've fiended for a DD-20 for a while, but haven't been able to afford one yet after I payed a shitload for ma Tonebone distortion pedal.
I will be buried with that pedal, but still, being a total shoegaze fiend without a delay pedal sucks >:C
