wow! to me this seem SO SLOW!!! i know that probably sounds weird.. but the first and only time i heard it was performed by Hamelin years ago at Husum... and i tracked the score down and did it as an encore for a recital years ago. im not sure who the pianist of this performance is, but seriously Hamelin's tempo has got to be almost twice as fast... and just as crisp and with greater range of dynamics. It is definitely worth a listen!
But Hexameron, MANY thanks for all your GREAT videos!!
@Chakiejan It's called rails because at the time the piece was written, Russian was going through a mechanical revolution. The piece reflects the fascination with machinery and factories.
I like this piece, perhaps one of the few of this kind I actually like; the part between 0:39 and 0:50, that melody "stuck" in the atonal accompaniment is so beautiful... good piece, indeed xD I'd love to learn it.
holy cow! I want to play that for my piano students :) Is there any place I can find the sheet music (playing it from the computer is not always the easiest/most fun way to do it)

I love this song. Only bad thing about it is that it's too short :(.

@TheImpressionnant I think its shortness makes it more effective, it's wonderful piece

Why is this called rails? Are we talking train tracks or cocaine?

To me it shows a resemblance on Poulenc's Promenades, specially the increasing dissonances (instead of crescendo), and the transportation theme
