  • churchill was a great man and even greater leader than the wussies in charge of the uk and usa. these wussies of our could even pacify afghanistan in over 8 years. truly pathetic.

  • yeah because hes jesus christ in a large coat.

  • @desiguy3, In the 1800's Britain was dfeated in Afghanistan. Churchill made some bad mistakes in his military decisions in both WWI & WWII, Gallipoli, and operations in Italy & the Med. Sea area.

  • @desiguy3 the people of afghanistan have never lost a conflict......

  • 0:48

    uhhh...oops

  • The convoy help wasn't exactly help or "aid", it was just part of trade deals, America protecting it's exports to the UK - a rather important trade link at the time. Interestingly, such was the distance between America and the war that American insurance companies sold convoy ship details to the Germans and as New York had refused a request to black-out lights in New York harbour many convoys, having safely travelled the Atlantic, were sunk just off New York. Thanks guys!

  • Additionally, the USA was providing its navy to escort Commonwealth, USA, & other Allied ships across the Atlantic in late 1940.

I believe it was in late 1939 that the USA gave Britain 50 older WWI destroyers to be used as convoy escorts. mathematicians from the USA in conjunction with British and Poles etc. were helping to break the initial Enigma codes at Betchley Park, GB in 1940.

  • France had a good number of USA P-36 Curtis Hawk (I thiink the P-36 was a Curtis Hawk) fighters in 1940 anfd these French pilotted planes shot down more German planes than were lost themselves. Later, the Germans sold Finland slightly more than 30 P-36's, and the Finns liked them and did well with them. I think Hungary may have recieved some from the Germans but am not sure off the top of my head.

  • AshleyH91, Yes, the Lend Lease was officially passed though Congress in March, 1941 & Britain agreed to it in ~Sept., 1941. However, much raw materials, food, clothing, cloth, weapons, etc. were shipped by the USA to Canada, Britain, & France in 1939 & 1940 through normal civilian channels, and many USA citizens volunteered for service in the Commonwealth forces in 1940, maybe a few in 1939.

  • Interesting footage. It shows that the English can only fight with the opposition completely beaten. In 1940, they all ran back home.

  • you have to keep in mind the Western front had changed between Dunkirk and D-Day. In 1940 the Germans weren't fighting the Soviets, the German troops in France in 1939/1940 were well trained well equipped and could fend off just about any unit of equal size, by D-Day the troops stationed on the Western front were poorly trained and equipped they were the youngest and oldest men in the field, because the best troops were committed to the East. Also what were America doing in 1940?

  • AshleyH91, In 1940 the USA was shipping aid to Britain, and preparing to enter WWII because it was inevitable. The German Static Inf. Divs. in France began to be created in 1941 and the Germans rotated troops through them from the east front. However, they were fairly well armed for static units with a lot of Arty. The 11 Pz and Pzgr Divs in France were rapidly rebuilt and all were near or overstrength. Another Pz Div, the 19th, remained in the Netherlands and German.

  • christof, correct me if i'm wrong but didn't the US supply of the allies only begin with Roosevelt's landlease policy in 1941? I also agree with you that there were some strong divisions on the Western front, however whilst the German rotation system did relieve some troops from the Western front, the war weariness of the soldiers has set in, also many of these divisions in the rotation system were replenished with new recruits after heavy losses in the east and lacked battle experience.

  • In 1940 they stood alone against a very strong Germany with only a Western Front - oh, then the Med, and North Africa.

What you're describing is America's intervention, fighting a beaten enemy, joining in when all the action and killing was being done in the East by the Russians. They defeated the Nazis as we struggled together through the West.

I see from your profile that you're just here to create shit, dissing Canadians, Australians and Brits. What a sad little life you have.

  • thebrains. I do not "dis" Canadians, Australians and the Brits. I quite openly applaud Scottish people. The English did not stand alone. They were helped by many mnay nations, including Poland, USA, Scotland, Rhodesia and India. If these countries had fought on Germany's side, then England would have fought alone.

  • Your profile seems to show that you do dis all the above. Also, by "they" I did mean the Brits (=Scots too), as it was the British army (no "English army") and Commonwealth forces (=Rhodesia, India), intrinsically licked to British authority, who fought.

Next in your list is Poland, invaded but never surrendered, soldiers escaped to Britain (and France early on), providing the RAFs best pilots and the largest WW2 resistance force.

Finally, USA, holding their dicks, selling convoy details :)

  • the brains. This is at the heart of the matter. In WW2, the Indians WERE British, as were all members of the British Commonwealth including Scotland and Rhodesia. Now you want to disown the others. When I talk about the English, I am talking about English people who associate themselves with England. The big mouths like Churchill Portal and Leigh Mallory were English. The ones who did the great work like Dowding, Brand and Park were not English.

  • Er, the Scottish are British, not Commonwealth. And I'm totally not disowning the others. The Brits, i.e. the UK i.e. English, Welsh, Scottish, N.Irish (and islanders) wouldn't have been able to achieve what they did without the Commonwealth forces, just as in WW1.

Your ignorant theory about the English smacks of a huge chip on your shoulder, for what reason I don't know or care as it's your personal problem, but it discredits the actions of thousands who fought valiantly as one. Grow up.

  • thebrains. We are talking WW2. The Indians were also British during WW2, just as much as the Scots were. You are describing yesterday's events in today's political terms. You English always play with words, calling yourselves "British" and "English".

  • Now I understand your hostility - you think I'm English! Haha!

I'm talking WW2 and know what I'm talking about: The Indians were Indian, the country India, a Commonwealth country, their passports bearing the name Indian Empire, India administered by the British. They weren't British and had no parity with the Scottish, or English, Welsh or N.Irish who are all British.

I really don't understand your chip, but if you wish to pursue it, educate yourself first, you might be surprised. Peace.

  • thebrains. Of course. You have to be English. Why would you be supporting them otherwise. There is a certain "them and us" element when you say British. You hate the fact that Indians were considered British once too. It was also called the BRITISH Commonwealth, which mades all Commonwealth citizens British. You don't need them any more, so they are easily discarded as "colonials", "natives" or even "savages". God I hate the way the English think they are better.

  • Wow, you're ridiculous, your chip is BIG yet blinding and misguided. The difference is merely factual, I already praised the Commonwealth troops for both WW2 and 1. Did you know the Indians held 30% of the front line in the early days of WW1 trench warfare? 1.5 million Indians participated in WW2. I'm very aware of their sacrifice and effort and I school everyone on it at every opportunity. Brits stood up, they fought TOGETHER, I defend them ALL, you seem obsessed with seperation. Grow up.

  • thebrains. Correct. Separation is very important to me. By obfuscation and other devious tactics, the English people have tricked others thereby causing the deaths of many many millions. By isolating the root cause of evil in the world, we can then deal with it. Obama is taking the correct line by distancing himself from English policies which have resulted in the troubles we are having now. Hopefully he will also review the special relationship too.

  • WOW, you're the type who seethes when you watch Titanic/ any Hollywood movie where the "baddie" has an English accent. lol. It's a long recognised joke and you buy it.

Some English act superior, but ffs you're in the US, look around, it's everywhere in many forms. Your "root cause" tells nothing of todays "evil". Again, look homeward. It's not "because" of the US, its anywhere, you can't seperate by nationality. Your hate is a mistake.

If you knew politics, Obama is moving towards UK policy.

  • we're starting to have a parliamentary government. I hope we dont start electing kings and queens in america...

  • Before you jump down my throat I hasten to add that he's not emulating UK policy, and yes he strategically wants distance with the UK. But if he's successful implementing what he wants then America will have a society closer to the UK's than ever before. Fuck, by US standards (and paranoia about socialism) they're virtually communists here!

Your chip is blinding you, friend. I wish only to advise you that you're barking up the wrong tree, wearing blinkers, and that it's a bad look. :)

  • thebrains. OK. I can see you are a sensible person, behind the fighting stance. As far as my experiences with English people are concerned, it is usally the same. They are friendly, as long as you acknowledge that you are the inferior one always. They can make fun of you, but never the other way around. As soon as you try to make the friendship equal, the English will turn spiteful and became your worst enemy, garnering support from every other English person. They will crush you.

  • Your experience sounds shitty! Mine is fairly opposite, I've never felt an inferior/superior relationship, they're the most self-deprecating bunch, maybe more so if it comes from someone else in jest, but maybe not so if they feel its from someone who is acting superior, a threat? I can see that.

Signals get mixed between cultures though. People take Americans for rude and arrogant (superior?) when they're being neither, but may be just louder, more direct. Whatever, ppl are ppl everywhere, ha!

  • @EasyCompanyAirborne

Uhm... Dowding was English. I met lady Dowding back in the 70's and she thought he was!

  • sdin. No. You got it wrong. She was English. Where did you meet her?

  • @EasyCompanyAirborne

Oops! My mistake - he was Scottish. I met Lady Dowding at her home near Tunbridge Wells. She was the patron of a magazine I used to design, called beauty Without Cruelty.

  • sdin. Interesting. You are absolutely correct. She was very concerned with animal rights. You are privileged to have met such a great lady.

  • War is full of If's and but's...If Germany had invaded the Soviet union in April 1941 and went straight for Moscow instead of diverting to Stalingrad then the Soviets would have collapsed and the second front in Italy and Normandy might not have happened...but then again instead of Communist aggression it would have been Nazi aggression ruling Europe.

  • Hitler = Fail - but we have still been invaded since and we pay them to be here. Great.

  • hitler almost pulled it off, glad he didn´t

  • I was only 3 half years old so i'm grateful to all the lives lost from the Alied forces.

If we had lost It would have gone on and on and many more would have died or be sent to the gas chambers or shot or tortured. Hitlar was mad and the german people helped him to kill others .

  • Nazi swine! take that! ha ra!

  • Well You would be suprised, The thrid riche was actully the most successful and popular government this world had ever seen. Just a shame they got blown up and there leader was a pysco.

  • Kick some nazi azzzzz!!!!!

  • anybody know about a ww2 rts game?

  • coh

  • german was much better than the allieds....just hiler was soooooooo stupid!

  • hope you don't support the idealistic things of the germans, but i agree, on the tactical and weaponry aspect, the germans were way ahead on the allies

  • For awhile they were, but like the Japs they didn't modernize fast enough. They kept trying for super weapons. Half the Wehrmacht was still fighting with bolt action rifles right up to the end of the war. Imagine if the Nazis had gotten weapons such as the Panther, Sturmgewehr, the Me262 and the advanced u-boats (type??) into service and for the jobs they were designed for even a year earlier.

  • how could they be better, when there leader was stupid?

  • they dont need hitler, he was just a asshole.....stupid pig, he is the reason, for loosing the war....the german easy one soldier was much better than die allied hordes....got experience and best clothes,tecnology.....

  • German technology might have been superior but the lack of winter uniforms is one of the reasons the Germans lost on the east front since 1000's of men simply froze to death. So cloths shouldn't have been in your little list.

  • the winteruniforms was good...but hitler this stupid asshole, thougt: they dont need this stuff, because they win before the winter is coming....!

few generals would say this problem, but hitler was so stupid! he is the reason for loosing war.

    peace.
