BoyScouts of America: Great news! The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve has been chosen as the site for World Scout Jamboree 2019! Make sure you head over to their Facebook and congratulate them! The North American Scout Associations (Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada, and the Scout Association of Mexico) won the bid to host the 24th World Scout Jamboree.
As I understand, the host country can have no more than 20% of the total participants. The event will have a maximum capacity. So if there is a cap at 40,000, no more than 8,000 could come from the host country. Now being that this is a tri-lateral bid with all 3 North American countries, America might have an even lower percentage than the normal host country percentage. I will have to defer to greater minds than I, but we will all know on January 13, 2011 who is hosting in 2019!
The problem with this is that if it is held in US, there will be 80,000 attendees. This will be my youngest son's Jambo. (He is a Tiger now.) I'm conflicted - part of the International Jamboree is that we travel to it. But costs should hopefully be lower here. (Unless that is how they keep the numbers down.)
