Interesting that the inventor of the drop ceiling didn't have any in his dream home ... except maybe in the garage? And as large as that house is, the counter/working space in the kitchen looked to be so small and disjointed. My 2,400-square-foot remodeled home has a larger and more functional kitchen.
The only suspended ceiling on the property was in a maintenance barn across the street and there are more than one kitchen. There is one below that one, just hop in the elevator and there you are
this house is beautiful. oh by the way the furniture cost more than most peoples houses. anyone who would buy and change anything about this house dosen't know anything about real beauty.
@denisedin1 There was a TV commercial I wish I could find that sums up my response perfectly. It starts with a garish lady pointing out all the items in her house and exactly how much she spent e.g., $8,000 on a zebra-print sofa. The point is, it doesn't matter how much you spend. Tacky is still tacky and this furniture looks cheap, regardless of the actual cost. This is an ultra-modern house that has been decorated with a hodgepodge of awful furniture that in no way fits its character.
Simply Amazing, I'd love to see the whole thing. To bad about what happened, I'd would have liked to meet the man who invisioned this place. I cannot get over how perfect everything looks.
this place is so wonderful!! There are colors I would change but there is so much to love here. Most "dream homes"( to use the phrase again) are selfish and reflect exactly that, I don't feel that here. It seems like this place was built to share...I hope someone buys this place and does exactly that...share it. Runners can run, Artists can paint...looks like it is just waiting.
I know the owners were elderly, but how ironic is it to see a walker leaning against the mirrored wall of the aerobics room? Maybe it's a mini dance hall. I'm not sure which is worse...
Poor designs date very quickly as exemplified by this house. If they had just been a little more neutral, all would be well today. The circular skylight and subsequent circular indentations above the fireplace are a prime example. I'm sure it was fabulous in 1990, but it fell out of favor by 1995 and is not likely to return. The geometric patterns in all the marble floors also need to be ripped up.
How do you keep a straight face when showing a $19.5m house as a "fixer-upper?"
What a hideous home! The estate land is beautiful but that house needs demolished. It would require a complete renovation. When was this house built, 1955? And who furnished the home with all that disgusting garage sale furniture? I guess you don't have to have taste to have money. The revolving floor in the garage with a Volvo parked on it? Really? Fitting for a Bentley, sure, a Volvo? The bathroom at 8:43 sums up this home perfectly. Crap.
The furniture pieces with glowing and faded pink and blue pastel fabrics have to be burned!! Also a poor choice was never remodeling, evident by the pinkish white washed light oak walls, pieces, trim work and paneling.
Much of the interior of the house looks cheap, and the kitchen is beyond awful.
I blame much of the dreadful appearance to the interior design and fixture industry itself as this was common from 88-94. I have seen similar atrocities of interior design in the Hilbert mansion.
The furniture found in the living room and bed rooms basically has to be thrown out. Most of it was never used, you can easily see where some 2000's leather pieces replaced the 20 year old pastel fabric furniture. Typical of giant homes of this nature it makes the owners find cozy spots and the rest of the house is unused except in social functions/parties. The interior is seriously off-putting and they need to consult with an interior design professional who will properly stage their house.
There is A strange cheap 90's blue pink pastel palate which flows and pervades this house, as if it is a message in a bottle to the future generations warning of the dire consequences of bad design. The particular brass they chose is horrendous. The minimalism lines inspired by the Japanese meets F.L.W/ Prairie of many of the lamps, furniture and lighting fixtures is appalling. This later 80's early 90's nightmarish time-warp is further exemplified in the Kitchen, office & Bedrooms.
The problem with dream homes is that they are your dream and your dream alone. They will be lucky if it fetches more than $10m. The grounds are exquisite, but it will take a year and another $4m to remodel the house so that you don't feel as if you are stuck in an 80's time warp. It's a great structure and has enormous potential, but the interior needs a complete remodeling to appeal to any buyer with pockets that deep today.
Did anyone else find the "doll house" game room entirely too creepy?
I loved the architecture; but found the combination of pure contemporary structural design w/the furnishings inside not to my liking. I would update the inside w/all contemporary, beautiful lines of furniture, colors, etc. to fit w/the exquisite exterior look. The interior feels a tad dated. But WOW! what a place. On a maintenance level, not only would I hate to paint it, but what about keeping that baby clean and dusted?!!!

So all you have to do is be smart enough to make a few hundred million yourself and see what you come up with.

perhaps the Browns own technology could be used... Modify his "drop-ceiling" technology and make it A vertical cover a wall technology...
Much of this house looks like an office complex, just like much of Champ D'or in denton tx, or the cummings GA mansion or Dean gardens.

The "doll house" as you put it was actually based on a Western Town and was for the grandkids to play in
