Considering the political climate in 1861 would the Southerners allow the Federal Government to buy all their slaves?

@khanmar It may come as a shock to you, but the US is not like other countries. You must know that of course, American exceptionalism, etc., and only in Ron Paul's fantasy world does states have a right to secede. Repeating a lies does not make it true.

The importation of slaves was outlawed in 1807. Had all the existing slaves been freed, no new slaves could have "come into existence".

@adam516 Actually for your idea to work not only should the importation of slaves be outlawed AND the law properly enforced, but all slaves have to sterilized as well otherwise slaves will come into existence the way babies do.

actually @adam516 is right. Freed slaves that gave birth to children would not be slaves in turn. Provided the freed slaves would be considered citizen's.

A "baby slave" was the offspring of an existing slave, but there are no existing slaves... because they were bought. Law enforcement is then the key issue, as it was after the Emancipation Proclamation as it is today.

@adam516 Ofcourse if you can profit by selling slaves to the government, no slave owner would start a massive breeding program, fucking every slave woman to make slave babies to sell to the government and finally selling the slave woman too when she is too old to have babies. I mean knowing how the market works, that of course will never have happened. People wouldn't just find ways to produce things that are being bought up.

@AbdullahTaleb61 It wouldn't be an ongoing program. It would be a one-time buy all the slaves initiative. All slaves would be bought, none would be left to breed. There would be no market for selling slaves.

@adam516 Yes, one time buy by the government. Naturally young slave women will be kept by the slave masters for fucking and making babies to sell. They won't be sold until they become sterile. Slave girls will be worth more in the open than what the government pays because they can have more children when they grow up. So they will be sold not to the government, but to other profiteers to be raised for fucking. Most slaves sold to the government will be physically weak males.

@lgvereor Yes to all citizens. Slaves where never citizens. Besides the Constitution obligates the government to protect the property of all citizens. Slaves are property and the property right ought to be equally enforced throughout the land. Ron Paul is in solid ground here. The Supreme court made a ruling to this effect and it has never been overturned!!

@AbdullahTaleb61 Wrong, slaves were categorized as a level of citizenry, pushed for by southern states to achieve that "half a man" control in the house.

Additionally every person born in the United States, was a citizen, and even if slaves are excluded, which there is no statements otherwise, once the banning of obtaining any further slaves was in effect, all children of slaves would be free and citizens.

@lgvereor Such high quality bullshit is tough to find except with the Ron Paul crowd. The US Supreme court has declared that slaves are property. That ruling has never been overturned. Wanna bet? You are not smarter than a Supreme Court Judge.
