I heard Transformers G1 took place in Portland Oregon. The damn being actually Bonneville Damn and the mountain where they crashed Mt Hood (Oregon) old volcano. the extra planes were animated to bolster the small decepticon forces in this 3-parter. In the toy line there were only 3 seekers, Megatron, Soundwave, the Reflector trio and Soundwaves minions vs 17 autobots, so the animators added several robots based on the Rumble, Reflector, and Starscream models. In some scenes there are like a dozen such extra decepticons.

very few of the 18 autobots are combatants. only Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Cliffjumper and Windcharger are warriors. and Bluestreak is a "Gunner" so I think they're less "soldiers" and more "partisans"  Or in otherwords who do you think would win in a fight between four sportscars and a fighter jet?
