  • I have a question, do you know of a good potato soup that doesn't have bacon or cheese? I haven't really seen any and while I really love potatoes, I also dislike bacon and cheese. Is it possible to substitute in chicken?

  • @Jaeharem i dont use either in mine either. instead of the cheese use left over mashed potatoes or instant potatoes to help it get thick. i put broccoli in mine! :D

  • @tygereyez77 maybe you can substitute the bacon for turkey bacon and use low sodium broth and low fat milk? i think that'll do the trick :P

  • add heavy cream instead and add OTHER cheeses like Swiss, Sharp Chedder and Blue, and MORE BACON as a garnish, and a cheap white wine to reduce.

  • We just finished having this for dinner and it was awesome!! I only put a tiny bit of celery seed since you said it was really strong and I added broccoli crowns cut up in tiny pieces. Thanks!! :)

  • Me again I love ur videos and I made the soup and they all loved it even my 12 year old girlfriend she spent the night and my brothers my dad and mom licked their bowls clean mom works nights so she didn't get to tell me how it was but I saw her bowl the next morning and dad agrees I'm making it again

  • It's been a while since I've made potato soup -- both versions, Yours and Beth's looks sooo gooood,

  • OMG this is the first potato soup I have ever made that actually tastes delicious!!!! Although I omitted the celery seeds and used garlic instead. Having said that I also missed out the cheese as the soup is so thick and creamy and tasty it seemed overkill. Can't wait for Hubbie to come home and try it tonight.

  • @twish1999 It would be good without the cheese, but you could do the low fat grated variety (the one that tastes remarkably like cardboard, lol)

  • I'm a vegetarian, could you make this without the bacon and with vegetable broth instead of chicken? could you replace the bacon with something?

  • @GingerlikeGogo The bacon really adds a lot of flavour to this. I'm sure if you do an online search for potato soup you will find many vegetarian type recipes that don't use bacon. You could carmelize the onions in vegetable oil before adding the potatoes and veggie broth. This may add the same kind of colour to it.

  • It got Maxs approval yea! I have cheese soup receipe I vve been wanting to make again but Beths has me swaying towards he Best Ever Potato Soup. I have never used celery "seed". Need to google it I guess is it like condensed celery?

  • @cozzyk Celery seed is just that, little seeds from the celery plant. They look like little seeds. I use is in coleslaw and potato salad mostly.

  • hi just made this with a few minor differences turned out great thank you

    differences: i didn't use celery powder i used cheddar instead and played it by eye to make a one person meal (all items above hard to find so i had to improvise) but it was still good makes me wish i could try the proper recipe but o well :)

    I noticed that Max wasn't wasting any time between spoonfuls. Points there, and going for seconds made for more points. Looks like it was unanimous amongst all three of you. And I have everything* in stock to do this now. Hmmm... I think I'll wait until tomorrow, though, since it's almost midnight.

    Would you reduce the celery seed, or cook it longer to let it blend, or is it fine as is? I do like the taste of it, but there's no point in overdoing it.

  • @anmoose You know, the next day the celery taste wasn't as strong. I think I would put in half of the recommended amount of celery seed. I found it just a tad too strong

  • Somehow I don't think there will be enough soup for tomorrow! I will have to try this now!
