... Actually, looking closer, yours is more white pearl-ish (or faded blue--I can't tell exactly). Mine was more of a sky blue-ish :) Same sound, sort of (well mine weren't tuned right and teachers hadn't shown me how to hit drums exactly right). Keep playing :)
Dude, you got my old drum kit, that got sold in ''89. At least it went to someone who knows the right way of how to play them. :) (Actually, it's not exactly the same kit. Mine had the top tom mount, then I added a 2nd 12" rack tom and floor toms holder. Plus it had keystone, yours looks like green/olive blue badge. Keep playing :)
i remember the amati drum set, that was popular in ussr, it sounded just the same, but with the plastic from the greenhouse instead of the remo heads)
Great sound man!!! Seriously though, is it really the brand of drum that's important? I know it certainly helps when the quality is great, but Buddy Rich could make pots and pans sound amazing!!
@Kaffyboy It is true that if you can play you can make anything sound like a million bucks but if you ad a great sounding kit imagine how much better that would sound, I say it is primarily the player without a doubt but a great sounding kit is the icing on the cake so I say both!
man i been spending all day to tune my toms and it is no where near how amazing yours sound :( would you able to give me some tips on tuning toms?? please :)
@twinnyty : mics and whatever is processing the signal determine the sound you hear. Anything other than a side-by-side comparison of various drums (using same mics, same setup, same heads and same tuning) is pretty much useless, honestly. Even a single decent overhead mic w/ the sound coming through dry can give a better idea of how a drum sounds to the ear. The range of sounds between brands, price, age, etc. is not as wide as drum adds would make you think. Heads + tuning is 80 percent of it.
for all the people saying how awesome these drums sound you should know that hes using mics and mics and proper tuning can make any drumset with any head sound good and i can guarantee without the mics the toms woudnt sound have as good.
tamessnz90 says? One can make any set with proper tuning and mics sound good. Yes, good. But not like this. You obviously never played vintage Ludwigs. I have. I miss them at times.
Don't dog the blue and olive badge just because it isn't keystone - there are a lot of three ply maple kits out there with the "lesser" badging, and Bun E Carlos prefers his 1976 6 ply Ludwigs - I've heard he knows more than a little about good drum tone, having about 100 kits.
That's the sound I´m going for with my newly acquired vintage luddys (68'). I have the same size configuration but I'm having a hard time tuning them low so I'll greatly appreciate some tuning tips. The problem is that the heads remain dead until I crank up the tension considerably. I go evenly around the head but there's a always a little wobble so I keep on thightening until I get an open tone and end up with a very high pitch as a result. Could this be a seating problem? thanks!
hey guys i have an old ludwig snare with the modern logo in my loft that belonged to my brother, it had a blue and olived colored logo in a rectangle above a hole and had a metal inside and was silver/chrome colored. can anyone give me the name of this drum?

yeah you can do alot with a tom and floor tom ...would you not get 2 bass drums and maybe 8,10,12,13,14 rack toms and 16,18 floor toms..now theres a kit . with sabain cymbals..
His 16" Floor and his 13" high toms can still go lower, I promise. He just have to find a nice balance from his heads if he wants to go abit more low with nice clean resonance from it. Depends though if he wants to go low or high because it is his drumset after all :P
As for the EQ, it's possible that he EQ'd this to get that nice thud from his set.
Hey man, those are great sounding drums. What kind of mic set up are using in this video? I'd like to be able to record and post drumming videos, but I don't want to spend a boatload on miking equipment.
it's a good sound, but it's true, removing that tom mount has dented the re-sale value considerably, it cud have been worth around £450 ($600-700) but now it mite get $350-400 if you're lucky
Too bad the value of this vintage set was ruined by the apparent mutilation of the bass drum. Or, was the tom mount removed, and if so why? When will people learn never to dril the shells for any reason whatsoever. If you don't like the kit, sell it, but don't modify it.
Just bought one of these (in the post). Sounds great. What head you using and how much dampening in the BD? Notice you've opted to not use the original rack mount.... heard they're a bit fragile. ... I take it thats the case?

Re: tune this low -
This is a low tuning already, no?
It's all relative and subjective, but you won't get much if any projection going any lower.
To me it's a misconception thinking loose=phat. Check out Simon Phillips for some fat sounding high tuning.
Besides, this sounds pretty eq'ed to me?
