  • PERFECT SOUND.

  • is there a reason the mics are so far away from the toms?

  • @loganbthedrummer92 It picks up a much more natural sound.

  • Epic sound! Nice sound!

  • Awesome Bass & Toms Sounds!! Good Job!

  • i would trade the girlfriend i dont have for those drums.... :O

  • @SuperNotNoob which is y u don't have a gf lol jk.

  • Glad those are in the hands of somebody that can actually play.

  • What Drum Heads ?.I See They Are Remo But Can You Be Prescise.

  • what type of shure's are those?

  • sounds godly!

  • is this a wfl kit?

  • Joe Morello, Ringo Starr, John Bonham, to Jason Sutter and Jason McGerr, Ludwig is the best!

  • Vintage = better.

    new = crappy.

    .

i like old things even tho i have new guitars but I LOVE OLD THINGS! RECORDS DRUMS GUITARS U NAME IT!

  • epic

  • CLASSIC TONE, LOVE IT!

  • reminds me a lot of how Ringo's drums sounded

  • u fukin suk lern how 2 toon

  • @setnewer u fukin suk lern how 2 spell

  • @setnewer Obvious troll is obvious. Nice try though.

  • hey i dunno if som1's asked this already, but what was the mic set up for this sound? it's unbelievable!

  • ... Actually, looking closer, yours is more white pearl-ish (or faded blue--I can't tell exactly). Mine was more of a sky blue-ish :) Same sound, sort of (well mine weren't tuned right and teachers hadn't shown me how to hit drums exactly right). Keep playing :)

  • Dude, you got my old drum kit, that got sold in ''89. At least it went to someone who knows the right way of how to play them. :) (Actually, it's not exactly the same kit. Mine had the top tom mount, then I added a 2nd 12" rack tom and floor toms holder. Plus it had keystone, yours looks like green/olive blue badge. Keep playing :)

  • That legendary Ludwig sound and that legendary Ludwig bass drum movement!!!

  • how can you get it to sound so beautifully dead?? Loose bottom head?

  • @SaltyPenguinAHT Its called EQing with microphones

  • sounds so good

  • nice

  • Sounds good! The bass may be a little tight, but great sound.

  • the kick sounds like Bonham fer dayzz

  • beautiful sound

  • honestly, why can't all drums sound like this?

  • i want the real sound the a enhanced mic sound

  • how did you rec this?

  • Why've you mic'ed them up so far away from the drum?

  • @Iam181993 If I'm not mistaken that is the Glyn Johns method to mic up drums...

  • @ChFrMo I see

  • What are the exact sizes?

  • a bit too muffled. ringo's were perfect!

  • @drummist53 Cardboard boxes eh? Ringo Starr would be proud to have heard that from you. :D

  • i remember the amati drum set, that was popular in ussr, it sounded just the same, but with the plastic from the greenhouse instead of the remo heads)

  • did anyone notice the huge crack where the drill in the bass drum is?

  • @christianconefery yes... this might be from a garbage can or dump...... I wonder

  • I really must say that I don't know how many times I've watched this video. beatiful sound!

hey if someone likes vintage drums... I made a review of my "new" luddies a month ago so check it out :-)

  • Totally sweet!

  • i like your drumset

  • Great sound man!!! Seriously though, is it really the brand of drum that's important? I know it certainly helps when the quality is great, but Buddy Rich could make pots and pans sound amazing!!

  • @Kaffyboy It is true that if you can play you can make anything sound like a million bucks but if you ad a great sounding kit imagine how much better that would sound, I say it is primarily the player without a doubt but a great sounding kit is the icing on the cake so I say both!

  • @Monsterdrumma Well said! I totally agree 100%

  • sounds alright, just kinda dead. maybe if they resonated just a hair more. like the tiniest hair, they would be perfect.

  • Check out my vintage Ludwig Downbeat set!

  • Love it!

  • awesome

but the bass drum sounds like fart

  • sounds almost exactly like the studio version of moby dick sounds sooooooo goood

  • how did you tune them?

  • how many mics did u use for this? only 2 sm57s?

  • OMg?

O.o so good sound without muffling?

    wow!

  • what kind of tom holder is that? i ordered a gibraltar arm and clamp 2 in 1 and it didn't fit

  • are you using coated remo ambassador drum heads?

  • Please tell me how to get the floor tom to sound like that, what skins?

  • What Kit and Heads are you using?

  • If only my drums sounded like that

  • can vintage drums be made to sound like modern drums?

  • what kind of heads on the bottom?

  • orgasmic sound ! what heads are you using ( batter & reso ) thanks .

  • THAT HAS INCREDIBLE SOUND TO IT!!!

  • sounds perfect! can you tell me what are your are your batter, resonant heads, what ply, etc? thanks!

  • excellent. So much better than masterofmoeller

  • How much was this? I'm thinking about buying this vintage kit...

  • this is a perfect sound.

  • what kit is it?

  • that sounds fucking awesome

  • sick hahahahh

  • jhon bonahm?

  • what year are these? Looks like a black and white badge?

  • thats fucking dopeness!! awesome

  • I like the smooth sound of the floor tom.

  • man i been spending all day to tune my toms and it is no where near how amazing yours sound :( would you able to give me some tips on tuning toms?? please :)

  • @twinnyty : mics and whatever is processing the signal determine the sound you hear. Anything other than a side-by-side comparison of various drums (using same mics, same setup, same heads and same tuning) is pretty much useless, honestly. Even a single decent overhead mic w/ the sound coming through dry can give a better idea of how a drum sounds to the ear. The range of sounds between brands, price, age, etc. is not as wide as drum adds would make you think. Heads + tuning is 80 percent of it.

  • for all the people saying how awesome these drums sound you should know that hes using mics and mics and proper tuning can make any drumset with any head sound good and i can guarantee without the mics the toms woudnt sound have as good.

  • tamessnz90 says? One can make any set with proper tuning and mics sound good. Yes, good. But not like this. You obviously never played vintage Ludwigs. I have. I miss them at times.

  • Isnt that the greatest sound ever? Well, one of the greatest thats for sure lol

  • Ludwig's the shit! I totaly dig that kind of sound.

  • @LittleNemoTheDreamer it should be that Classic Ludwig sound screw gretsch drums i love my vintage luddy`s

  • how do you know what pitch to tune the toms to?

  • you dont. its what you pretty much want it to be but it all depends on the tension

  • As far as the recording goes, of course the low tom sounds a little off - the dude's recording it with an SM57 and has zero baffling that I can see.

  • Don't dog the blue and olive badge just because it isn't keystone - there are a lot of three ply maple kits out there with the "lesser" badging, and Bun E Carlos prefers his 1976 6 ply Ludwigs - I've heard he knows more than a little about good drum tone, having about 100 kits.

  • no words, the best

  • :20-:24 sounds like moby dick

  • That's the sound I´m going for with my newly acquired vintage luddys (68'). I have the same size configuration but I'm having a hard time tuning them low so I'll greatly appreciate some tuning tips. The problem is that the heads remain dead until I crank up the tension considerably. I go evenly around the head but there's a always a little wobble so I keep on thightening until I get an open tone and end up with a very high pitch as a result. Could this be a seating problem? thanks!

  • Just posted a video response to share the 1971 Ludwig bebop vintage drumkit sound during an awesome drum solo.

This is an amazing drummer from a jazz quintet called Boneyard.

  • hey guys i have an old ludwig snare with the modern logo in my loft that belonged to my brother, it had a blue and olived colored logo in a rectangle above a hole and had a metal inside and was silver/chrome colored. can anyone give me the name of this drum?

  • I kept waiting for that classic Ringo snare sound...wot???

  • Where's the snare?! Also, tune this low and you'll get that lovely beatles sound! :D

  • Re: tune this low -

This is a low tuning already, no?

It's all relative and subjective, but you won't get much if any projection going any lower.

To me it's a misconception thinking loose=phat. Check out Simon Phillips for some fat sounding high tuning.

Besides, this sounds pretty eq'ed to me?

  • His 16" Floor and his 13" high toms can still go lower, I promise. He just have to find a nice balance from his heads if he wants to go abit more low with nice clean resonance from it. Depends though if he wants to go low or high because it is his drumset after all :P

As for the EQ, it's possible that he EQ'd this to get that nice thud from his set.

  • How much these cost

  • Hey man, those are great sounding drums. What kind of mic set up are using in this video? I'd like to be able to record and post drumming videos, but I don't want to spend a boatload on miking equipment.

  • it's a good sound, but it's true, removing that tom mount has dented the re-sale value considerably, it cud have been worth around £450 ($600-700) but now it mite get $350-400 if you're lucky

  • What, another jailbait queerboy throwing his 2 cents in? He's your partner in the circle-jerk.

  • increible que sonido¡¡¡¡¡

  • Too bad the value of this vintage set was ruined by the apparent mutilation of the bass drum. Or, was the tom mount removed, and if so why? When will people learn never to dril the shells for any reason whatsoever. If you don't like the kit, sell it, but don't modify it.

  • Its his kit and he obviously likes playing drums more than collecting because he doesn't suck dick like you.

  • Fuck you where you breathe, you little snot nose.

  • Haha, imakery got you good.

  • he obviously can keep time a shit ton better than you, i watched your videos and your tempo was all over the place

  • I've always loved the Ludwig sound. I don't see why so many people buy/use DW. They just sound too light and ringy to me. IMHO!

  • Good brand... Good sound

    Ludwig all the way!

    Good drumming too! 5*

    -Rowdyfish

  • dude...someone needs to tell me how you get that sound from your toms...hows the bottom head?n the top?

  • yes , but there is a micro^^

  • these are sounding amazing!

are they new or old? what year?

  • good sonud!!!

    you convinced me! :D

  • those are 6 ply, right?

  • next time don't use eq/ effects

  • It's not their real sounding. It's just in wires. )))))

  • Just bought one of these (in the post). Sounds great. What head you using and how much dampening in the BD? Notice you've opted to not use the original rack mount.... heard they're a bit fragile. ... I take it thats the case?

  • that sound exactly like bonham mostly the bass drum

  • how do get the best sound from your rack toms???? Please help me they sound way low and the tone rings

  • You have to have the right heads and tuning. What heads do you have?

  • im guessin those emporers coated not the classic ones i think their just plain old coated emporers

  • that kit sounded amazing!

  • im a noob i don't know what the heads are?

  • huh, i never said anything about the heads

  • did you remove the old mounts and put new ones on them drums?

  • beautiful sound

reminds me of bonhams sparkle kits

  • amazing!

what heads does that have on it?

  • want :P

  • ludwig make nice sounding kits i wont 1

    =(

  • if you hear them with head phones you can hear them way better!!!

  • i have the same exact kit. i love it more then anything else in this world.

    i got a 24'' kick 13'' 14'' 16'' 18'' toms and the supraphonic snare. classic Ludwig

there are no better drums on the planet

  • wait a sec, you're from theorange marsupials, i recongnize that kit from a show i saw of yours a while back...

  • Well hot damn, if I had the money I'd buy that right now.

  • amazing control

  • what kind of muffling are you using on this kit?

  • no muffling

  • you have no muffling right, so you just tuned them real low right????

  • They're actually tuned quite high.

  • @itdoesntmatter1969 Owned xD

  • @itdoesntmatter1969 waaaat no way thers no muffling it sounds sexyy

  • if you need some sort of muffling to get your kit to sound a bit more like this, get some moon gel, works wonders wayyy better than duct tape

  • @MiniMightyMan96

    its probably the mics

  • thats the most beautiful drumkit iv ever heard in my entire life

  • would you lke to sell me that kit? 800 dollars?

  • Yay, that's what i'm drummin' about!

  • Be proud of your kit man. The sound is awesome

  • What Badge is it?

    Blue/Olive?

  • blue/olive or black/grey.. check his kickdrum

  • there is no black grey badge for ludwig. it is a blue olive. the lighting just doesnt make it very clear looking. :)

  • after the keystone badges in the 60's, they started to make the blue/olive. in the 80's they presented a cheaper version, the black/white badges. i'm sorry, i meant black/white instead of black/grey.

  • What mics are you using?

  • looks like plain ole sm57s

  • great mics

  • Nice. I'm in the middle of restoring a 1974 pearl blue sparkle. Great sound!

  • it seems to be remo emperor on the batter!!

    Great sound man! Love it!

  • Great sound.

I am just in the middle of restoring a Big Beat from 1969, and I really hope mine will sound as yours.

So , you use A Ambassador coated on top, and even Ambassador coated ( or clear) on resonant side?

  • I just listened to the Ocheltree (sp?) vid again for the 10th time and picked up on him saying coated Emps (batter) AND Ambass. (reso) on JHB's drums ! I've always used CLEAR Ambass. on reso.

I had a few in storage - took em out and did all 3 toms Ambass/reso. What a BIG difference !!

My tuning frustrations have now ended. The vid. has been removed from this site but trust me - its what he says. Try it, you'll like (LOVE) it,

  • My dad has these drums but in a full 9 piece

  • Great, are the shells the 3-ply with the reiforcement rings do you know?

  • yes

  • coated ambassador on the batter and resonant side too?

  • HI, 3-ply...and what heads are you using? Great sounding drums!

  • Ambassadors

  • you just put a smile on my face

  • Ludwigs, so warm and woody. I will get some one day!!!

  • lovely sounding drums u got there!

  • Oddly enough those mics and YouTube do these drums justice. Those things sound incredible.

  • O no. What'a sound !! Lovely!

  • WOW... what an awesome sond man they freakin rock!!
