I just got into reading again and have collected quiet a few books in the last month or so. Are you into Teenage Fiction, like the Hunger Games, Maze Runner, and Shiver series?
I've been debating joining a book club but I'm not sure I read fast enough, do you have any recommendations on book clubs or how to join one?
@Redrew25 I'm really not into teen fiction. I read the Hunger Games series because my son is reading it for school and I wanted to know what it was about.
Hey Marnie, I watched a video of yours (can't find it anymore) where you mentioned a website that lets you get books from your local library and place a hold on them before they're available. What's that site again? Thanks!
@lovememymakeup I'm aware of it, but I would prefer not to give them any free advertising on this channel. They're evil, horrible people who make up nasty things about perfect strangers. It's cruel and irresponsible. I'm removing your post only because I don't want anyone's eyeballs to be scorched looking at that crap. Thank you for looking out for me, though!
I don't have much of anything to recommend for you, because we read all of the same books!! Lol. I'm looking forward to the sequel to A Discovery of Witches, I couldn't put that book down! Also can't wait for the next Outlander book. A couple of titles I can recommend are, The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (the tone of Discovery of Witches reminded me of these) & The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.
I was given A Discovery of Witches last Christmas by one of my students, and sadly, I have yet to read it. With that being said, my mission this Christmas break is to finally read it. I have heard such great things and I can't wait to start reading it..
I love the Outlander series as well. I also really enjoy most of the books Philippa Gregory has written if you haven't read any of hers they are great, my favorites were Wideacre, and the Queen's Fool. If you are at all into classic literature, I really love Ann Radcliffe, her books will be free on Kindle since they are so old, I really enjoyed The Mysteries of Udolpho and The Romance of the Forest, both are classified as 'gothic novels' but I would say romantic adventure.
Hurray finally the much request book review !!! :)
I sent you a "friend" request of Goodreads but in fact you didn't respond, so I thought you were no longer using your account. You should really start using it again, and we can see what you recommend !
I'm currently finishing the Hunger Games #3 and bought a Discovery of Witches few weeks ago, can't wait to start reading it !!!
Did you finally borrow and read "Talk to the Snail" by Stephen Clarke, like you planned ? Just to know... :)
********!!!!! oh my God Marnie my husband got me the Scottish Prisoner from Costvco, and he won me ALL OVER AGAIN! Hahahaha, I'm a Jamie kinda girl and I was hitting my nails waiting for the release, I'm half way and I can't wait for her next book in 2012!!! Hpe they make a movie soon!
I love the chicagoland vampires series! If you like her writing style, I would suggest maybe trying out the Dresden Files. He has that same type of saracastic voice. I'm going to read the Britain book, I love an author with a sense of humor! Keep doing these videos please! Love them!
I have the Kindle Fire and just recently downloaded a whole bunch of books. I mainly like non-fiction but read fiction occasionally. My last book downloaded was Paris Without End by Gioia Diliberto about Ernest and Hadley Hemmingway. Also two books on former Presidents and True Crime novels. I bought Anti-glare screen protectors but I don't do any reading outside unless traveling. I love my Kindle Fire and everything it affords me. Thanks for the recommendations. :)
love the Janet Evanovich books. they make me laugh so hard! can't wait to see the first movie,Katherine Heigl as Stephanie and Sherri Sheperd as Lula, should be interesting. thanks for all of your suggestions :)
You reminded me that I wanted to read a Discovery of Witches. If you have an iPad, you can still download library books to the Kindle application on your iPad. The same goes for your PC if you have the Kindle application.
My mom doesn't want a kindle because she can't dog ear the pages!! She does that all the time to her books!
I absolutely love the books by Diana Palmer because usually I don't have a lot of time and the books aren't really high maintenance but keep you diverted.
At the moment I'm reading a german book though which is called " You forgot me on the balcony- texts from last night"...apparently there is a website where ppl put the hilarious texts they send/got the night before!
@lifewithgoldgirl Well mine remembers where it's been but it doesn't look like the edge has been turned. My mom just wants the feel of a real book. I just cannot convince her of anything else.
If you like supernatural you should look into Karen Marie Moning she rights two different series and they are great they are the Fever Series and The Highlander series all are great books!!!!!
I loved 'Discovery of Witches', also. 'The Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss was the book that I wasn't able to put down this year. It also has a sequel...yay! Your son would probably like the first one, too. Let me know if you like it. -Julie
Sign up for Goodreads! I'm on there, too. I have to suggest The Hunger Games trilogy. Fast and interesting read. Also, I have to suggest Garden Spells. It's also a kind of supernatural-type of book, but not overly so. I like a lot of Philippa Gregory novels. And she's a British author so you'll feel right at home reading these on the plane. :) The Other Boleyn Girl and the Wideacre series are great. Also: Memoirs of a Geisha, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Shanghai Girls. I could go on!
I read A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness because of your recommendation and fell in love with all of the characters. Really looking forward to the second book out in July 2012. Although I'm always reading a novel of some sort, this book rekindled my love of reading. I could not put it down!
Yay book recs!! Love the outlander series so I'll have to check out the Scottish Prisoner yay! Been same as you reading lots but mostly eh. Have been enjoying Flavia de Luce mysteries by Alan Bradley though. Fun quick reads.
hey could you do another video talking about that kindle fire I believe you called it. That sounds really interesting. I didn't know you could view movies in a kindle. It really sleek and I love tough screens.
I can't recommend highly enough The Tea Rose trilogy by Jennifer Donnelly. It's historical fiction set in London around the time of Jack the Ripper. You can watch a review of it here on YT. Right now I'm reading The Hunger Games.
@mothersfreakout Oh my GOODNESS! I have just started reading this as my friend lent it to me and I was about to recommend it to Marnie... was all set to type and saw your post which came up while I was watching! I didn't know it was a trilogy... and Fiona has just arrived in America so I'm hoping this is the first? Great taste in books my dear!
one of the best books i ever read is The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers. I kinda want to say that everyone who likes books would probably enjoy this novel.
I have tried the iPad & the kindle but...something so relaxing about turning actual pages of a book. I use the iPad for Internet or my son uses it for games..reading though I just do not find it relaxing. I know in 10 yrs my kids will be telling me to "get w/the times" lol but for now I'll enjoy my paperbacks! :)
i recommend better than i know myself. check out a lil review about it at sianrose01.blogspot.com
