Hitler has been deliberately mis-labelled as extreme right wing by many in the Socialist movement, desperate to create as much distance as possible between Hitler and his fundamentally Socialist principles. It's an amalgamation of feeling and emotion about the nature and 'destiny' of the nation-state. However, fascism was nevertheless a movement which if not openly ALLIED with the right (such as the Centre Party in Wiemar Germany) had policies convergent with the interests of the right. Nationalists, militarists, traditional elites, and business (particularly big business).

American ideas of left and right are very different than the traditional European ideology. I have a PHD in political science and wrote my thesis on this subject. What books have you read and what is you thesis about? . If I had the time and text count i would school you further. Unfortunately, I have a life and cannot help.
