I dislike using the term "3rd party" as if it represented a particular thing. It refers to the whole spectrum of political action outside of the two which happen to be the most popular at the moment, and unpopular does not always equal better. I'm not saying don't ever vote for a third party candidate, but don't vote for someone just because they're not mainstream.
In no way do I intend to portray someone as a good candidate just because they are not mainstream. However, plenty of lousy mainstream candidates have gotten unreal amounts of support because their supporters corral everyone who is "afraid" of the main opposition into the only "viable" (well-funded) alternative. This is also true in local elections where non-mainstream candidates have the best chance of being elected. You are free to abstain, but it may not send the message you had hoped.
This reliance on "viable mainstream candidates" will continue until the American political duopoly of Republicans & Democrats is relegated to a being relic of the past. Sadly, in order to accomplish this, the constitutionally mandated "electoral college lottery" would have to be abolished. Fat chance.

Only she's not in deep trouble. She was supposed to be in big trouble in 2006 when news surfaced of AIPAC lobbying Nancy Pelosi to have Harman appointed as chairman of House Intelligence Committee. AIPAC denied the whole thing and Harman continued to hold office. This is more of the same; nothing will change. Harman, because of her "contacts," will emerge "clean" from this apparent scandal. It refers to the whole spectrum of political action outside of the two which happen to be the most popular at the moment, and unpopular does not always equal better. I'm not saying don't ever vote for a third party candidate, but don't vote for someone just because they're not mainstream.

In no way do I intend to portray someone as a good candidate just because they are not mainstream. However, plenty of lousy mainstream candidates have gotten unreal amounts of support because their supporters corral everyone who is "afraid" of the main opposition into the only "viable" (well-funded) alternative. This is also true in local elections where non-mainstream candidates have the best chance of being elected. You are free to abstain, but it may not send the message you had hoped.
