Awesome! Love it. Although its a cover of a Joe Meek meets DooWop obscurity, its well-chosen and shows the "openness" of the New Wave era to pop creativity that was (like now) so lacking in mainstream at that time. Perfect fun for the dawning of the video age. I miss this this band.
Is it me or does it seem like Rocky Sharpe is high out of his mind in all his videos and that is why he wears those sun glasses, so you cant see his eyes?????
Mainly after hearing another one of my best mates with wife & kids to support got paid off (credit crunch.Recession.Board members didnt get a big enough share dividend.any bloody excuse) &, feeling a bit down ,turning on my Radio,& hearing a hundred dreary versions of hAllelUyAH.,again!
Ok,maybe not Rocky Sharpe to save the day but groups we used to have in abundance that were unpretentious, talented (that rules out anyone in X Factor) & ( gawd knows we need this) -CHEERY!
Theres been crucial times in UK pop history when the charts are full of unpretentious fun groups.Glam Rock during the 3 day week. Barron Knights during the strikes..Groups like Rocky Sharpe at the begining of thacherism.Gawd knows we could do with these groups NOW!
Sadly Rocky suffers from MS and can no longer perform but I am reliably informed that he can still enjoy You Tube. Johnny was Communications Manager for a trade association untill recently but is now freelance copywriting and enjoying digital photography. Helen acts, scriptwrites for TV (Eastenders and Heartbeat - the best known) and exhibits her art. Eric (Mike Vernon of Fleetwood Mac/Blue Horizon fame)continues to produce music. Great talented under-rated band with a sense of humour!
I asked KROQ to play the original in 1984 so that I could record it. I played it to work for about 3 months - I worked with John Dykstra at the time. I told him he should do an animated version. WHO IS THIS GROUP? Where were they - definitely not LA or SF, or I would have known them.
Denise, Rocky Sharpe & the Replays are from England (circa 1979-1984). They had seven hits (2 Top Twenties - Rama Lama Ding Dong and Shout! Shout! (Knock Yourself Out!)) in the UK plus numerous hits across Europe, especially Spain and Germany. Their first three albums are available on CD from Ace Records but their 4th was on Polydor and not yet made it to CD. Check out their other You Tube videos for fun and great music.
ran-dells did it better (which btw this was meant to be a novelty song (NOT a childerns song) and is from 1963! There were only 2 versions of this song I really cared for and that was of course the original and they had a sort of punky version of this song which I thought was really cool in the movie "martians go home" I have been trying to get an uncut copy of that version for a very very long time. But haven't been able to find it.
Remember the glasses you used foor this song in "Aplauso" (Spanish tv)? I bought a couple very similar and my dear friends and I used to emulate our idols' routine Ah! touching memories... papapapahoommehmeh :)
