This is why they call James Brown the personification of Soul,k along with Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke. He's Black deep in his heart! This is an underrated masterpiece! Only JB could compose and produce this kinda stuff-the music, the words, the BEAT-Dig. Have Mercy! krxn11
Great great jam from JB. So many band members got called out by name on this one, not just Maceo. And this was the first big JB hit that Jabo played on. Before any JB purists correct me, I said "first big JB hit" that Jabo played on, not first ever song...
I remember when I was 14yrs. old dancing with friends on a hot summer's day to this song. We would have dancing contests to see who could do the, James Brown. No one could beat me doing his footwork. I wish I could go back to those days!
This was, imo, a cery underrated song by Mr. Brown. It didn't get as high on the charts as other fast songs by him in that period, only #11 on the soul charts, (but I think it did make the top 40 pop). It is actually a fantastic jam session and should have charted higher.
One of a kind performer. And I mean seriously, how good are the jb's. Damn.
