I sympathize primarily with Vexen, and not out of a fan-based bias. I personally have never drugged, raped, or killed anybody, but in a way I admire that Vexen was willing to go to those lengths to get the affection that he deserved. In him, I can see a very lonely man whom the world has abandoned, who just needs one person to validate him. I can relate to that. I see his passion when he hugs the boy as more than a need for control. To me, it's a need for love, as the song explicitly states.

Yes, he did kill Roxas, but it was basically either Roxas's life or his. Being a possessor of that pesky survival instinct, Vexen chose his own. If he'd let Roxas escape, Roxas might have told the police on him or something and gotten Vexen locked up, and that wouldn't have been ideal for Vexen. I'm speaking of course from Vexen's perspective-- I do realize that most people will take Roxas's side, and so I'm playing devil's advocate.
