  • tone is decent but its not good overall

  • Check my cover to the solo part with slide :

    watch?v=5aEQbHo-6Fs

  • leave it alone..you will bring Duane back and boot your ass..

  • Do you know what chords your sliding over?

  • dude.... you suck

  • yeah, and eric is famous for that one lick

  • VERY BAD! ! ! ! TERRIBLE ! ! ! !

  • did Duane Allman actually play this with E. C., I had no idea. Good job anyway

  • @Flippinflopperstein Duane wrote the freakin' riff and all the lead fills and the slide solos...

  • ur a fuck

  • nice... you really nailed it

  • You're too young to be this cool.....

  • Best get a day job...maybe two. And buy a new shirt, it looks weird.

  • Your intentions are alright... Keep your focus though! People you have to remember that this song hasn't been taken in one "take" at that time. Good efford!

  • hunh??? Appreciate your effort but get a metronome.

  • that's cool man!

  • it sounds like 2 different songs running concurrently?

  • Hey dude good job ! :).. it would be cool from u if you checked my version of the ending slide solo of tihs song :)

  • i dunno i just am conveying it like Eric wrote the thing in his auto bio and that I asume would be a good referance

  • hey Jack what you talkin bout .thats skyjack right .Eric only asked Duane to be on the session as long as the bros were in town .He knew Duane was the leader (HNIC)the big brother why would he ask him to leave .but he did state he thought Duane was the musical brother he never had.tom dowd would not of stood for something that was not kosher.

  • But jazz and blues musicians were always inviting each other in and out of bands. As witnessed (or not) by their prodigious drug intake, they were in fact grownups.

  • Gimme a break... Take some lessons, Skypilot

  • Skydog was not "down the hall" They recorded and toured together. Duane Allman was part of the band. Look it up on Wikipedia.

  • The sound is poor and the acoustic part is not so good... but nicle slide playing! Really cool. I like your sound!

  • oldhippiematt is wrong, Duane asked to come to see eric in the studio when he was in town with the bros. (eric went to their gig) and after finding out that Duane played on wilson pickett's version of 'hey jude' he asked him to join the dominoes for a session and layla's awsome slide was born.

  • bad

  • its hard to play the slide. its lost on me. Though Ive only fiddled at it a few hours in my ife

  • you need to first make sure that your guitar is tuned to the recording your playing to. I know the original version of layla is a bit flat in relation to standard tuning

  • It's the other guy that's outta tune.

  • The album version of Layla was sped up in the studio after it was recorded. As a result, the recording sounds slightly sharp.

As for this dude's version on the vid, it sounds pretty bad.. either out of tune guitar or off key playing.

  • ok you just helped me because i was playing along with the song and I thought i was going crazy, my guitar sounded flat in relation to the song and I wasnt sure what the problem was lol. thanks

  • My ears hurt

  • I knew Layla could be played with a slide. Good Job! And good playing, despite what others wrote.

  • half note behind

  • Practice, practice, practice young man. Thats what Duane would tell you if he could! It will come together. Slide is tough for most, but you can do it. Even E Clapton works out 4-6 hours a day (or used to anyway). Your potential is there; keep working on it.

  • I didn't know that about the 2 pianos. I always heard that Jim wasn't that great at piano! but bobby does have the feel for sure

  • if clapton played the slide parts why does he not play slide live he sticks to the piano melody line and doyle or derek plays it.

  • allman plays slide

  • I know its all duane thats what i have said from day one this kid on the vid is way out of key and is trying to make it sound like derek trucks

  • clapton never played the slide part, it was duane allman, he lets derek or doyle bramhall ii play it, or if someone else is playing with him who isnt typically a slide guy, like andy fairweather low, they just exclude the slide outro

  • I know thats what I have said from the begining

  • great playing man! Long live Skydog!

  • Eric Clapton did not play one note of that twin slide lead harmony. Absoulutely not. All Duane.

  • well, who do you think played the other slide fills in the layla coda, if there were 2 slide lead guitars? Eric did slide on the album, you can hear it very clearly on several songs. I'm almost certain Clapton played in standard tunning when he did his slide work for the album. Duane was mostly in open E and open D.

  • it's called two different slide parts and tom Dowd put them on top of one another.. Like he often did with creams second album and some of the third. When there would be 2 guitar parts thats both clapton just over top of one another..well thats the same with Duane on Layla

  • sorry fella..you're wrong...Duane was just down the hall at the studio, Eric thought there was something missing with Layla, he asked Duane to sit in specifically to play the slide...they rehearsed the song a couple times and did the lay down in one take,,yup, one take...Eric plays a great slide, but on Layla it was Duane..

the old hippie speaks and eases back into the darkness...peace

  • am wrong about what old hippie..I know Duane plays the slide thats what I'm saying. What are you talking about

  • not true, tom dowd was the reason they got together, the allmans where in miami touring where eric was just starting recording layla...clapton wanted to see allman play so he went to the show with dowd and then backstage. clapton and allman hit it off. he was invited to join the band but stuck with the brothers... its all in the book by Randy Poe, Skydog

  • @Souroush Are you sure about this? Please send more info via inbox! Thank you in advance!

  • slide is tough to play. keep on rockin

  • man that was pretty good

  • Honestly folks, have you never seen a practice session before? You think ANY musician gets it perfect the first time??

    Please...

The reason the recording is so very good is that they did this kind of thing for HOURS AND HOURS until they found their licks. Then they recorded!

  • sorry but if you really knew duane then youd know that duane didnt use a slide he used an empty medicine bottle and the reason his slide always sounded differrent was that it only reached up three strings because it was a coriceden bottle from when he got sick and he is the only one doing slide on layla eric asked him to join in for this reason.

  • Eric Played slide on the Album, Duane did most of it, but you can hear 2 slides in the layla Coda, "tell the Truth", "Anyday", and others.

  • This is the best part of this song. The slide guitar is very iportant here. Good work!

  • It's impossible almost to play in the key they did it in for two main reasons. They sped up the record 5% after they recorded it and the way it is mixed, they added a slight echo so the notes sustain longer and bleed into the next notes. Some idiots often criticize this coda because they think its out of tune, but its all mixing.

  • Tone's actually really good man... just either tune up, or make sure to land right on the fret. You seem to be missin quite a few of the notes. Keep workin on it.

  • You do know that Both Clapton and Duane did slide on this song don''t you? While it wasen't perfect it was pretty damn decent.

  • I'm aware... But i'm also aware that half of it was practically in another key. You're either in tune or not, and this is not what I would consider to be in tune. That's the way it is. I'm not tryin to rank on this guy. I have seen his other vids and think there are absolutely incredible, not to mention being played on an epiphone. He just possibly neglected to tune up before this, I don't know...

  • thanks for the input guys- i completely understand what you mean about the tuning part- this is just a vid of me wankin around with the slide over the back track I made- its not meant to perfect(and I agree-it doesn't really sound that in tune to me, but I still like it....again, its just me foolin around-not like my other vids which I consider much better quality playing)

  • @bluesbrotha15 Buddy, just the fact that you even know of this music and are attempting to play it at all is great, just great. This song is one of the finest ever made and attempting to play the slide is a testimony that you appreciate and respect the music. You'll be fine no matter what anyone says...

  • I apologize for my rudeness in my previous. once I re-read it, it seemed I took on a rather arrogant tone. I wanted to apologize.

  • hey don't worry bout it, man- constructive criticism is always welcome!

Check out my new videos when they come in

    The Bluesbrotha

  • no just duane did cause he's a legend and y would eric ruin his song playing slide with duane. cause even though eric is a great slide player, he will never be as good as skydog was

  • wow, um, yeah I'm sure Eric did slide on The Layla album, plus you can here 2 slides in the song and I'm not talkin about this cover. Get your facts right my friend. And plus I never said Eric was a good slide player, decent at best. But thats my honest opinion. anyways thats beside the point.....

  • um Eric did not play slide at the end of the song it was all duane eric does fils on some parts of duanes solo but he isn't playing slide Bobby witlock played acoustic on the song and eric also played the guitar with the leslie sound on it as well

  • Actually you are wrong, they both played slide on the Layla coda. Bobby Whitlock and Jim Gordon both played the piano part, Clapton also played the acoustic parts.

Jim's not a piano player. He plays so straight - everything is right on the money. They wanted me to give it some feel, so Jim recorded it, I recorded it, Tom Dowd mixed them together. It's 2 pianos." - Bobby Whitlock

  • go listen to the man Duane Allman himself say that he played two slide lines and clapton played acoustic..its on youtube find it.
