I saw this movie when I was very young. This is one of I think two scenes I remember. I used to think I liked this part until right now. Now I think "What the fucking hell was wrong with me???"
@tvnutboy I think it was poking fun at the opening of "The Andy Griffith Show". In it, Andy always took his some fishing in the opening. It's executed pretty lamely here. IN fact, the whole movie was lame.
this whole movie was a dream, a childs point of view, so in his mind eskimos eat eskimo pie and push thier old out to sea on a block of ice, with a television and a chair, THIS KID HAS PROBLEMS!
Kathy Bates with a spray painted face and a black wig? NO! NO! Go back to your room movie till you learn a lesson about racial sensitivity! (Nostalgia Critic)
@skemono If people actually look at "North" as a serious documentary into the lives of the Inuit people then their problems extend even beyond racism. I don't freak out about Lucky for the Lucky Charms commercials, and I'm Irish. It's a dumb commercial, even kids know that. This movie sucked even when I was a kid! By the way, the film also makes fun of white people in Texas, and other families from all around the world. But hey, it's your video clip! <3
@rhylast Kids do get a lot of their information about different peoples--particularly indigenous cultures--from the media, so having them constantly reinforce stereotypes (like "all Inuit live in igloos") is harmful.
I know that the movie also made fun of a Texas family, and people from all over the world--the message seems to be "a middle-class, suburban, WASP existence is ideal and everything that deviates from that sucks". I've got this clip mostly for the redface with Bates and Vigoda.
Does anybody know on why did the guy with the sunglasses say, But But Nothing." for? Who was the actor that wears the sunglasses in this movie anyway?
I'll have you all know that I live in Alaska and it is very ill-mannered of you to make fun of it. This is exactly how our lives are. We eskimos are a prideful people and we ask that you don't make fun of us or we might just have to hunt you down with our harpoons (The special ones we use on whales!). That said, I have to go before the internet freezes. BYE :DD
@Shayshayy13 You really expect us to believe Eskimos live in house that look like the Polar Express crashed into the set of the Flintstones and send the elderly floating away on ice floats?
@varan324 dude chill would you its a movie nobody is forcing you to watch it or listen to youre the Unbelieveable one posting shit when you could just shake youre head so lean back and shake youre head in disgrace and STFU.
I remember this scene from when I watched the movie as a kid. I think it would actually be a great lead in to discussions about modern attitudes that devalue the elderly, such as euthanasia when they're no longer "convenient" to have around. I imagine a college teacher using it at the beginning of her lecture to generate discussion.
Well, while almost using the Nostalgia Critic's EXACT WORDS doesn't make you any more intelligent, anyone can see this movie is utter shit, and that it's completly racist.
This movie is not "racist". *Facepalm* The movie is from North's point of view; it's how an 11-year-old boy thinks people from different countries act like based on the limited amount of information he knows about other people's cultures. And I personally enjoy the movie and think it's got a certain charm to it.
@CartoonDork Oh please while I did only think of alaskans as people who lived in igloos and wore eskimo jackets as a kid I never thought they killed off their old people nor did I ever think french people just watched Jerry Lewis all the time, etc., etc., etc. This isn't cultures being taken from a childs point of view: this is racist.

@skemono all inuit live in igloos is harmful? lol you need to spend your time on something more important
tubermann1 1 year ago
@tubermann1 Yes, stereotyping other peoples and cultures is harmful.
I wonder what more important you would have me spend my time on. Leaving illiterate comments on YouTube videos defending racist stereotypes?
skemono 1 year ago
@skemono I think you are stereotyping middle class, suburban WASPs and I am offended.
tubermann1 1 year ago
@tubermann1 Ooh, how devastating. Your comment cuts me to the quick! My sides ache from the soul-scarring lashing you have dealt.
No, wait. They're aching from laughter. My mistake.
You've just reinforced the fact that you don't understand racism, stereotypes, or why these things are bad. You're a pathetic troll.

Ok there are 3 problems with the whole thing of this scene where the elders are put on ice flows
1 when this was done it was done in time of famine not because they were old
2 this was very rare & only done as a last resort
3 this happened years ago, nobody does it anymore
