Started reading it, not far in - up to page 40. Great so far, but will it impact on my experience of the book if I skip all of this Chapter V bullshit where they prattle on about Greek mythology?
@hedonism13 Not at all...I've read this book at least 4 or 5 times, and I occasionally skipped over the entire chapter on echoes...It doesn't hinder the overall book, and in some ways, reading it in different ways several times enhances how much you can actually gain from it. Best book I've ever read...hands down.
No, no, no. Mila Jovibitchnitchinitch would truly suck in this role. I really hope this awesome book NEVER meets an adaptation to screen. It's just too good, and a movie would RUIN it.
This is brilliant. If I had the money, I'd say fuck the suits and go make it. If you build it, they will come. And wow...who is "Karen"? Perfect casting. This will never work in the standard format. Maybe a cable series.....then the DVD set?
Every time I hear this song I associate it with the book now, I read the book before In Rainbows came out, but Radiohead was one of my favorite bands anyway, Great video. Thanks!
if it was made a movie, it'd probly be alright. nothing spectacular; it'd make some careers but unless the producer was willing to take a lot of risks from a cinematography standpoint, it wouldn't be a wonderful adaptation of Danielewski's work.
E.g. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Great actors. Shitty screenplay, in comparison to the book, I mean.
In my opinion the only thing that can be done film-wise is maybe a couple of experimental films used as companions to the story of the book. I would never trust fucking hollywood directors to make this movie. Their ideas wouldn't be at all faithful to the book or the academic vision of Danielewski. Maybe indie film makers can make artistic shorts surrounding the story of the book, but nothing can be done beyond that. After all, the book has always meant to be* a book.
There is no shortage of brilliant directors in Hollywood. The issue is the expense of filmmaking. Studio execs (many of whom have no business being involved in a creative field) are highly risk-adverse because there is so much money riding on every single film.
When audiences embrace more challenging films, more challenging films get produced.
Great choice of actors for Will and Karen, at least based on looks alone. I didn't have a clear picture of them in my head myself, but they *feel* right.
Im not the one making the movie. Its just an opinion when I was reading the novel the image that came to mind was Liam Neeson.. Im not the one making the movie so my word is just an opinion no need to argue
I must agree with spearofhope2. Your casting and editing is wonderful here. You catch the essence of the Navidsons' story very well, and the music you choose is perfect. I'd be interested to see what individuals you would cast for the other characters.
There are so many aspects The Navidson Record contending to so many genres and plots (and subplots). What I love about Youtube is that so many people have edited their own renditions of the stories. That said, I especially love this rendition.
Thank you very much. I've thought about recutting it now that I have a better video program, and if I ever do I'll have to think about adding in other characters. :)
The song, Videotape by Radiohead, is so fitting(to me anyway). ''I'll have it all here on videotape"---I think about near the end, when Karen sifts through all the film that Navy's left behind.
I think that's why the song works so well...Obviously you put a lot of thought into its symbolism and meaning. I think the simple piano/vocal feel emphasizes the eerie sorrow, especially. I'll look out for your future updates! =D
There should really be a Navidson Record movie... People that say books like House of Leaves aren't Translatable into Film... It's a book about a Film, morons! I mean... it is a film, already. Albiet a fictional one.
House of Leaves is not a film. It's a book about a man who edits an essay about a film. The Navidson Record is probably the only part that could be easily made into a movie.
I agreed with you on that part. I was responding to the part after that where you said: "People that say books like House of Leaves aren't Translatable into Film."
House of Leaves isn't easily translatable to film. Just the Navidson Record, which we both seem to be in agreement on.
i came in here for house of leaves. I left satisfied because of radiohead lol.
