Hey, I've asked about this already, but the subdivision surface doesn't work as I expected.
Yes, it does sub-divide each face, but in this video it curves the edges. It makes each edge rounded. Please respond if you know what I'm talking about.
It sounds like you are using the sub-divide operator/ tool, instead of the modifier, you'll need to add a Sub-Surface modifier, that will smooth out the mesh. In 2.5x it's under the tab with the small blue spanner symbol, in 2.49b it's in the mesh properties panel, clicking on 'modifiers' should bring up the list of available ones, sub-surface being one of them.
Sub-division modifer, or sub-surface, I've forgotten what it's called, but that basically sub-divides each quad/ triangle.
As for the second question, it's called the proportional editing tool, in Blender 2.53 it's O to turn it on/ off, I think it may be the same in 2.49x, but I can't remember to be honest. Basically though, you can turn it on and use the scroll wheel to manipulate it's size and as a result effect more, or less polygons around the vertices selected.
@daniel8488 So the proportional editing tool like also moves the closest area as you edit a vertex? That's exactly what I was seeking for. The sub-thing modifier and the proportional editing tool seems like a great combination for my needs. Thanks man :)
maya has some great things but its layout, interface and everythin gelse is horible. but unlime max 9 it has lots of premade brushed and great animation tools..
BUT you can just get all that as plugins for max 9.
cinema 4d is the best one. ok, no its not, but 3ds max doesnt work on my comp lol, so i use cinema 4d, and its actually not that bad at all. good layout and stuff
whos fault is that that max dont work on ur pc?? haha
i also got CRAZY BUMP, amazing for making specular, noise and so on maps, ray fire tool that includes amazing physics + gunfire.. AMAZING PHYSICS, i also tried getting water effects but nah.
i spent lots of time experimenting. not im doing a scene with T 34's in the street, half the street is wiped out with bomb they come in, fire fight, but i wanna make it as real as possible/.
I was able to export a model of mine into UV Mapper(don't remember how I did lol, and I made a planar texture. I colored it ect, but when I went to use it in blender, I could not split my model, or use one side for the front text. and so on, can you please explain how?
There are a lot of good people at Blender on YouTube, but one problem is that they go to fast and don't explain how to do it so others can make a tutoreal out of them. :(
i think it may be speeded up by x0.2 or something like that becuase i had to render it out into another codec in blender. but its close enough to the speed, it isnt really to hard once you know the application.
im going to get some more up soon, shame there all close to 500MB :(
Is this sped up? Because it looks that way, unless you have such amazing hand eye coordination that you can make your mouse shoot from one side of the screen to the other in a split second. Still, nice model, although it could do with some selective creasing.

What's that modifier that makes the object so smooth and affectable by closest vertexes as you move them?

I have two question :
1) why don't you use the "mirror" modifier ?
2) What do you use to do such a video ?
Otherwise the modelling is very cool ! Good job !
socomajor 2 years ago
he doesnt really need it here because the model is not too detailed (but cool of course) :)
Software: Blender 3D and a sreen-capture-program like Camtasia (30 bucks) or Camstudio (free)

How do you split a poly face into two with out it triangulating, i apologize for this noob question.
jaimsC 3 years ago
The only way to split a face is to either Loop cut (ctrl+R) doing it any other way will create traingles

Ctrl+R for loop cutting? you surely know about this one but it should to the thing (?)
or knife the midpoints.

really impressed by this work. It could be great if it would be turned into a tuto !

Hi, what kind of rendering did you do at the end?
Was it normal or a special type (i've heard of one where if you have no light source it does it automatically for you or something).
