I totally agree with this message. This land is invaluable. Once its gone its gone forever. Too much land has been destroyed over the years as result of development. Theres always going to be development going on but there also needs to be a compromise. I have visited Earth wise. It is a very special place in the middle of urban development. It would be a HUGE mistake for that land to become a mass of houses.

@hanksnow82 I couldn't agree more. NIMBYism by a small vocal minority who don't wish to have their food grown locally and try to impose their urban values on a very rural community. It really comes down to values and what you consider to be important. For me, it's leaving a healthy legacy for the next generation. For others, it's about thinking of themselves first and who cares what is left behind as they leave destruction in their wake.
When you hear proponents for development of the Southlan
For one "Americanising" doesn't isn't a term that applies to the citizens of the USA, it applies to extremist capitalist culture that exists around the world, the USA has simply become the best example of what it is, hence "Americanising". Remember, we're North Americans too.
" We are people who are dedicated to serving our customers and community by building positive relationships with those whose lives we touch. "
well now i look through a concentration camp fence and every time it rains my property floods. As a home owner im not happy with this lack of being neighborly - as a person i think sean should have the right to build something on his land and the rest like ive stated above should go to the ALR.
our family home has been in boundary bay for 50yrs bordering on the southlands
Sean came through with an excavator and built a 8' high fence - plowed through the growth and soil - this is not what a developer from Tsawwassen who states on his web site should do to his neighbors ( perhaps a different solution could have been reached with the neighbors)
Tsawwassen have very little undeveloped land we need to save this space for farming once its developed its lots forever. the type of developemet that is now the norm will make tsawwassen look like other parts of the lower mainland that have a mono culture of identical homes very close together it would be anouther eye sore that is spreeding across the lower mainland. there is lots of undeveloped land in BC but tsawwassen is so small there is only this one little area left
brilliant observation. I'm afraid that developers for the most part seem motivated entirely by greed and the issue of land use needs to be placed above and beyond that base motivation.
You people are going about things ass backwards . With almost 100.000 immigrants comming into southern BC every year they have to live somewhere . Until we stop 90% of all immigrants settling in just three jurisdictions it will continue to cause huge pressures on these areas . Rather then taking a luddites apporach to building more homes you need to force the government to come up with a better immigration plan that spreads new commers out across the country .
@hanksnow82 You're plain wrong. This parcel could feed the entire population of Tsawwassen - that's far more than several thousand homes. And what does it matter if people have a place to live when they have no food to eat? It's about Maslo's needs. Food must rank above shelter.
@hanksnow82 I see the confusion - I'm a filmmaker, not a crop farmer. I'm going on a combination of expert agrologists' soil reports (e.g. Wendy Holm), confirming the land has plentiful class 1 and class 2 soils, on the property's history, and on the successful farming being done there today. Keep up the farming, Hank - you have my support and admiration!
@hanksnow82 this relatively small piece of land will have minimal effect of availability of housing in the GVRD in relation to the size of tsawwassen it is a major asset that will be lost forever if its developed and yes immigrants need food as well
@thomassawyer123 Again you ass backward as 500 acres in this climate zone will house far more then it feeds . It's much harder to change immigration policy then is to just be a NIMBY but immigration is the problem .
@hanksnow82 Developing this parcel of farmland is a very short sighted solution to population growth. All of the municipalities in the area need to work in unison to provide a livable region. Some municipalities will be called upon to provide more shelter, some will be required to provide more water, and others will need to grow the food that feeds everybody.
Delta is unique in the fact that the land is the most fertile in the world and is so close to a large metropolitan population base.
@ElvisontheMove Let me assure you that while it maybe good farm land it is not the most fertile in the world or even in Canada . What the real problem is here is nimbyism .
@hanksnow82 Firstly, most of these immigrants are not going to be able to afford the nice spacious houses which are going to be built on this property. Secondly, we need more urban densification around agricultural land which subsists that urban population. Suburban sprawl is the most egotistical and narcissistic use of land a society can construct. Localize and decentre food production and dismantle big agricultural corporations who are killing us with their "efficient" industrialization.
But y'know maybe Americanising the Southlands isn't such a bad idea, lets build two thousand homes there. Then we can place the new garbage dumpsite right smack on Centennial Beach, kill all the Tsawwassen First Nations and build a couple Walmarts on their land, maybe a new port dedicated to buying crude oil from poverty ridden nations, then pave a couple fucking highways straight through Burns Bog and burn the rest of it down. YEAH, thats a great idea.
WE dont fucking need houses in T-Town, all it is is houses and strip malls. HELL, when you look us up on wikipedia we are quoted as being "stripmall hell".
What happens when you put a thousand homes in Tsawwassen? You lose a thousand jobs in a place where there is almost zero space for new businesses and already have very few jobs.
Century Group shouldn't own the land to begin with, they're trying to capitalize on every meter of land they get their greedy nubby digits on.
Council apparently banned it on the basis it "may contain libel" - though they could not know this, as they wouldn't even watch it privately to find out for themselves. In my absence, Council tarnished my name and work with unfounded innuendo. Moreover, they insisted that any future video submissions be "vetted" first by a bureaucrat. And why stop at just videos - why not "vet" people's speeches before they make them? Imagine the government telling you what you can say to it in a public forum!
This video was banned from the public hearing held the week of March 1, 2011. Even though the audience agreed to a 5 minute viewing, council sought legal advice and reported the next day the video could not be accepted. Why? On what precedent?
Educational video, thank you so much.

what is wrong with being a green shirt NIMBY? you make it sound like they're coming to godlessly sodomize your apple pie.

The Green shirts at the recent hearings hosted by Delta Council were IN SUPPORT OF HODGINS' DEVELOPMENT - I'm afraid you have it backwards.
CommonSenseCanadian 11 months ago
Greens shirt NIMbys try and destroy a very creative development that real a community pioneer Sean Hodgins family brings forward.
Greens shirt NIMbys resent that with Pt Bob and the TSW Indian Land they have little control of this area.
Greens shirt NIMbys are more concerned it might take 2 lights to get through 12th AVE going to Tims
Greens shirt NIMbys wear green shirts deserve to get ALR Green houses, hog farm or mushroom farm.

Population forecasts by the GVRD do not support the need for large scale development in Delta. Check their report on their web site.
And don't foreget the huge build out by our TFN neighbors. Their plans will provide all the choice people think they need.

Nice video - it is a disgrace to see payoffs to universities
On a side note i would like to see the a large portion of the land go to the ALR and the rest to sean to build some - some of the intended buildings.
