Since learning about the way christians treated native canadians i've decided to abandon chirstmas. Its taken me a while to learn what attrocoties christians have commited against them in the past. Its made me question the values of modern ways of life
@14CPO I am Metis and I am also a Christian because God belongs to all men including me...and it wasn't christians who treated our forefathers this way frankly it was the Catholic church or it's off shoots which are the same thing...they did the same thing to white people...any white orphans who were in the schools were beat and mollested etc...didn't you ever see the movie the boys of St.Vincent? I don't practice the race I am I practice the love of God toward all!
Totem poles are from the west coast, not Montreal. This carver is obviously talented, .The art has strict rules and you have to know the alphabet before you make new words. There have been some non coastal artists that have gone on to be adopted and critically acclaimed like the late Larry Rosso, he carved a strict Haida style and he understood it to the fullest! That is respecting the culture that belongs to us.
This doesn't look like native art from the West coast, I should know I am a Nisga,a artist from the coast. Have you eastern Native brothers ever thought about carving your traditional masks? I have seen some from the Algonquin tribe.Your art would be stronger if it were from your culture. All the best.

I don't think it was ever the intention of the carver to make his work to look like from the west coast.
