  • WOW I'm a few years behind now LOL but I gotta say this is as exciting news to me as the restoration of Me-262 and their Messerschmitt rocket plane as well as the famous FW-190. Russia just recently got their MiG-3 restored and IL-2 just a few months ago. Then you have the only last flying Italian Macchi MC202/205 and the only French Dewoitine D.520. Seriously they need to start making WW2 aviation movies in "Red Tail" style....they're already doing it with WWI aircraft such as "Red Barron" :)))

  • The whine comes from the airframe certainly not engine supercharger noise. I was there when he ran the engine up for take off! there was no whine but when he got up heaps of airspeed like out of the dives when throttled back it would whine like one badass motherfucker!

    for real boomerang sounds awesome!

the F4U corsair was called whistling death and it does whistle.

But boomerangs more of a whining bitch! siren!

  • to bad the one from aerotec went into retirment :(

  • my father flew many hours in boomerangs, some of them in this aeroplane! and the whistle is definatley from the gun ports, if a supercharger on an aeroplane makes a sound like thats its gonna blow up, my father plugged the gun ports on the machine that he flew just so prove the point to people

  • the Boomerang was designed and built in 16 weeks at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne although as far as my knowledge goes it didnt see any real combat, but I could be mistaken. Awesome aircraft

  • Besides the P-64 the Boomerang was the only single-seat fighter based on the North American Texan-trainer.

It is not a problem for the Boomerang that she was a stop gap-fighter .... because in the whole WW 2 she never met an enemy aircraft in a dog fight.

  • @Basilisk195 The zero LOOKS alot like the texan???? HMMM

  • love the whistle sound

  • Zimmerman, your an idiot, there are two airworthy Boomerangs in Australia at the momment (NSW and SA), dumb arse!

  • just the first and last part are real, all rest are fake.A RC aircraft, a toy!

  • Oh its real alright!

  • If you look i have another video of same aircraft taking off flying and landing. In both clips aircraft are for real.

  • rc toy, man, you been watching to much bald wog pussy and not enough aircraft.

Oh that's right, Brazil did jack shit during WW2

  • @zimmermann10 JOKE BOY!!!!!!!!

  • It is is not real! A RC plane!

  • Man, now there's a prime example of an unsung hero. You just never hear anything about those great "Boomers"

  • didnt know any Boomarangs flew now

    terry

  • This sounds shit hot! You cant beat a supercharger for noise value! It would be good to see how they stacked up against a P40 in Africa and PNG. A close family friend flew the Beaufighter "Whispering Death" aginst the Japanese. What did they call these beauties?

  • Thats whistle isnt from a supercharger (CAC Boomerangs were not forced induction assisted, same engine as a C47dakota) but from the air travelling over the 20mm gun ports in the wings.

  • Seems to be a bit of debate over this. Look the Boomerang up in wikipedia and it says the later variants were supercharged. If it the whistle was from the 20mm ports why didnt spitfires make the same whistling sound? Whatever the reason for it, it sounds great!

  • Yeah, I am aware that some were charged.I meant to say this one I dont believe is. Ports of differing angles, shapes location etc may cause this noise. Like you say, wheo cares asits a shit hot little gizmo!

  • well the Boomarangs hardley fought any fighters mostly used by auzzis1945ground straffin. that's what i read.

    terry

  • This is at Tyabb correct???

  • yes Tyabb

  • where is the airshow?

  • shame by all these comments that i couldn't watch this with sound. i like tha look o' this plane, looks small & powerful, heavy duty.

  • What a beautiful plane, what a noise! - I am looking forward to the movie: "Australia" really looking forward to it it looks like they have quite a segment on the bombing of Darwin. :(

  • I'm assuming it's just Zeros right? Maybe the odd p-40?

  • It was all Zeroes in the air, I can't remember if they showed any Australian aircraft in the air or on the ground, it was quite a well done scene, sadly they showed the looting, but history tells us that is part of what went on there.

  • I still might have to see it as long as the planes aren't CGI ;)

  • Looked like CGI to me.

  • You think Baz Luhrmann could afford to hire a real Zero, after the lavish production of Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet etc ;)

  • I had a badly built Airfix Boomerang once.. tried to throw it away, but it kept coming back!! :)

  • Lol! Guest appearance 0:17 - guess who ;p

  • Looked like a T-bird to me.. the wingtanks gave it away.. :)

  • It seems there were many fighter of the perios with tip tanks, such as Thunderstreak, Panther, Cougar etc?

  • Yes, it could be a Thunderstreak.. I have a couple to build.. ( I think! ) But I don't know if there's any at all flying now.. whereas there are still quite a few Shooting Stars going strong..

  • its a Cessna A-37 :)

  • Aha... :)

  • Love the shape and sound of this aircraft, what a Sheila.

  • When the air is pushed over the wings and the .30 cal gunports it makes a whistle sound.

  • that's correct...but not this type of sound.

what you can hear is an enormous supercharger mated to the P&W R-1830 radial....for better performance at altitude.

  • OOOOHOOHOHOHOHO that whine gave me goosebumps!!!! I LOVE the sound that aircraft makes!!! And it is beautiful as well!!!

    5/5 rated!!!

  • Yea me too. I though all the Aussie made marvels were put in mothballs. A real please to see an actual I fly. From reading books on the Boomerang she did scare the shit out of afew japs over PNG comming down low out from cloud cover then hitting them with what ever they had. We lost afew though on the ground when Darwin was bombed

  • the 'pinecone' exhaust was a flame shield device also used on engines such as the Bristol Hercules.

  • I did not know any Boomerangs were still flying, what a suprise thanks for the video.

  • 2x20mm cannon helped it along.

  • God that whine is awesome, may have lost as a fighter but it was one hell of a ground attack plane.

  • Yeah, that whine -and blazing cannons and machine guns -must have scared the shite out of the Japanese, and given our soldiers a morale boost seeing them swooping in.

  • to my knowledge there are about three in flying condition and a few more that are static displays

  • Suzy Q again, is she the only C13 in flying condition? Unique noise. Its a shame they couldnt beef it up with bigger engines, it could have stood a chance against zeros speed wise(a merlin perhaps!). I guess nothing was available and so a switch to spitfires was most logical for RAAF.

I never quite understood the single 'Pinecone' exhaust, but everything indigenous to australia has odd features, echidna for instance.
