Children of the stolen generation where abused physically and sexually, they lost their homes and their families, many will never find them again. We may not have wronged them but our grandparents did and its up to us to say sorry on their behalf.

@IzzyBee33 Why is it up to "us" to say sorry on their behalf? The notion of collective and inherited guilt is absurd and only propagates further chauvinism, hatred, and violence. It's analogous to a white man having an axe to grind with blacks because they've stolen from him in the past. In fact, it's actually the same situation in reverse. We'd rightly call such a man a racist or a bigot, but in this case we're giving him a pat on the back. Why?

@xXPinkGoddessXx because it's still a part of australian history, and the longer that anglo saxon aussies leave it then the more ignorant they will become. the white australia policy and the child removal policy were terrible racist polices ever formed up since federation in 1901. it has left a traumatic effect on them because they were totally neglected by the aboriginal protection board and also they were sexually malested by their white foster carers as well as being sold off freely.

That is grouping human beings by the colour of their skin and not by their character, or in other words - racism.

@xXPinkGoddessXx because australia is a western society, which was built through ethnic cleansing of the aborigines as well as british colonialism. and the federal parliament pretty much represents that european/anglo saxon side of our society. of course we are now multicultural but you'll be suprised of how many other aussies dont consider the aborigines as australians, modernized generations always comes with a history behind them.

Again you're referring to the actions of past generations, which are in no way related to the actions of their modern day successors. Yes, parliament does represent the Anglo Saxon side of our society TODAY, but this once again does not relate to that of Anglo Saxon society centuries ago, just as modern Aboriginal culture does not represent that of Aboriginals centuries ago.

@xXPinkGoddessXx I'm afraid it does because the australian constitution has brought in the racist policies. as I have said the government does change but the history behind them doesnt. For years the federal government have been deterring away from making an apology to the stolen generation etc and even admitting their racist policies. since kevin rudd apologized I think the aborigines are healing. the pain which was caused by the government was dragging on for a 110 years.

@xXPinkGoddessXx it was the same story with the child migrants that were brought over from britain, again the federal government still deterred away from apologizing to the "forgotten australians" who were abused physically and emotionall, sexaully malested, kidnapped and neglected by the child caring authorities. this again was the scheme of the federal government. it wasn't until two years ago the government made a formal apology to them

@xXPinkGoddessXx um they actually do because the lineage between the aborigines and the anglo saxon aussies is recorded and it is represented. for the aborigines it's their elders that represents them and for us it's the federal government, to get a bit deeper it's the prime minister. as I said it's more about the government admitting their wrong doings and for somebody that is a high official to come out and say sorry & also show that our side of the woods still do care about you.

@liverpoolmatt87 Everyone is related depending on the degree of separation considered - take this a few steps further, and you could just easily point the finger at Aboriginals for being part of the destructive and violent race that is mankind. See where I'm going with this? Once you stop seeing people as people and start viewing them in definition of the groups they're connected to, they cease to be individuals accountable for their own actions.

@xXPinkGoddessXx it's not so much on the present generation that the aborigines are holding account to, it's more to do with the federal government seeing that it is they that brought the racist policies to australian society. of course governments change but the history behind them doesn't. afterall it is the australian constitution that does represent us. furthermore the aborigines are not that much of a warrior type people, they're more nomadic than that.

What she said disturbed me, but we in the US have similar apologies to make to native Americans, Blacks, Chinese and others.

The African countries have had a complex history of similar abuses, between whites and blacks but also between different tribes and ethnicities. I hope as a race, we will learn soon enough to see each other as not so different after all.

Our recent election of , and the overwhelming popularity of, Barack Obama here has done wondrous things for our own social healing.
