there will NEVER EVER be concerts like this again. many people post these same words I speak. all the same. but we just cant get over the fact that todays music (99% of it) is trash. and the concerts are even worse. as I watch this video I look out into the crowd and see how happy and into the song they are. all standing, waiving arms, clapping with the music. today all we get is fat ass Beyonce lip syncing ever where she goes, swinging her hips around like there is an imaginary D@#K under her !
A really well put together arrangement. I don't know who produced this song,,, but what a work of art. Ear candy forsure. Their 2nd best next to " I wanna know what love is".
@Everclearish That's because the 'music' has been kicked to the curb in favor of gimmicks, props, and PR machines. The days of real music (instruments, not manufactured) and singers are long gone. So sad!
@gonadus 1985 (pretty sure on that). I posted a while back on this. Yes, it was the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. Giuffria opend for them (horrible...my garage band had better equipment). Foreigner was great though. I still have hearing loss from that concert.
@iphone32009 The member from this video is the lead guitarist who held all the contracts for the band. He has basically fired everyone along the way. What you saw was basically a tribute band.
One of the BEST bands to come out of the 70's and 80's. So underrated, Foreigner (to my knowledge) is still Atlantic Records all time best selling artist.
These guys should be in the HOF. It's a joke that they're never even nominated
@lovatoandswift13 I agree with you! I hope Mick realizes that he owes a lot of his band's success to the vocal talent of Lou Gramm. A great band needs a great voice which Lou provided!
I was at the concert when this was recorded. Early 1985 (I think) at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center (I'm not in any of the shots though). Giuffria opened (and were in way over their head). When Foreigner took the stage, they played very conservatively through the first part of the set. Then it was time for "That Was Yesterday". It wasn't one of my favorites then (or now for the matter), but they did a great job with the song, and after recording the video, they really put on a show!
@MichaelCGatesMusic I'm pretty sure this was the album track. I was right behind where the giant camera boom would swing back to. Pretty much looking center of stage, just back in the stadium seating (not on the floor). No camera time for me though.
There was a time when music was at the height of its glory.
There was a time when artists and bands wrote their own songs and sang from their hearts.
There was a time when lyrics carried deep meanings about life and true love.
There was a time when music was meant for listening to rather than for laughing at.
But that was yesterday... sigh,it pains me to see how bands like Foreigner, Survivor and Journey were so popular in the 80s but are forgotten today. I wish I was born two decades ago.
@asdfkie i was born near that decades, but we didn't realized that this music was THAT good . i always thought it will be like this forever. it's just now that i feel a little bit lost ,bc the music nowadays speaks about sex and money . but there are still good songs, but it stays a superficially decade
@asdfkie Well said! From the last sentence you wrote I will assume you are a "young" person. If that is true, you have insight and wisdom beyond your years. I was a young man in the 80s so I grew up with the bands you mentioned and every word you wrote is true. @asdfkie yes the 80's fucking rocked and I was lucky enough to see all the bands you listed! The music lives on forever - going to see Lou Gramm later this month cant wait...
@asdfkie Couldn't agree with you more; You point out key things that are wrong with today's music industry. It's mostly about way too much flash and no substance today. Most kids now are more interested in technology and superficial/short attention span endeavours and have no idea or care what real talent is. Hopefully this tide will turn at some point.
totally agree. But I think it's not just Foreigner. A lot of other bands' awesome songs are underrated. Maybe it's the media who decides which song will be popular and the masses just follow it
@gamblerpete This song only went #12, I also hardly hear "Say You Will" and "I Don't Want To Live Without You" and they peaked at #6 and #5 respectively in 1988, usually the majority of the band's later hit songs don't seem to get the recognition like their earlier hits
@williamlbarberjr Thank you for your service, disagree with the politics fine, but NEVER NEVER dis the servicemen who laid their all on a foreign field or lost their friends and returned home only to be greeted by the assholes in this country who think that they can be disrespectful or cruel to those men that joined.
I think this is my all time favorite ballad. Unless it was another of the other amazing songs that Foreigner sang. You guys are definitely the greatest of my time.
