Peaked at #1 in the summer of 1989. You have to give it to Prince for not going the "safe route" (which he never does). Most artists would have simply delivered a pure pop, radio friendly soundtrack for such a mainstream film. However, Prince, being the creative, outside the box artist that he is, stayed true to his craft and delivered a very non-conventional soundtrack which was unlike anything on radio at that time. I remember this when it first came out. The best part is the Vicky Vale funky guitar break at 03:10 that sounds similar to Kiss which was released earlier. IMHO the Vicki Vale break should have been it. The rest of the song is mostly over use of samplers, which were just getting popularly available back then and various riffs. There too many things going on that the focus is missed. Im a Prince fan, but this was song was just ok, nothing great.
