  • *the guy i mentionned in the video is perhaps a bad exemple since he's apparently half german, but i personally have met many blond, blue eyed portuguese people.

  • @ReptileDude511

portuguese are not white? what are you talking about? Portuguese,Spaniards , French and Italians are latin europeans , and therefore white. Latin is not a race. Southern europeans like most spaniards, portuguese and italians are mediterreneans but white nevetheless. there are also many nordic looking portuguese and spanish people, mainly because iberia was once occupied by celts and germanic people. just look at the guy at 0:09. Fair hair and eye color are quite common there.

  • @Lyle24Odelein I don't see it they look different from typical white people the brown hair, blonde hair, dark brown hair. They Spaniards and Portuguese have black hair and tannish skin or olive skin. Spaniards are classified as hispanics. It's the same damn thing with asians they have tannish white skin yet they are not white they are asians. Yet central asians have caucasian blood in them. I don't consider anyone with black hair of the white race. but you know whatever.

  • @ReptileDude511

you don't consider anyone with black hair as white? so hitler was not white then? most iberians (portuguese and spaniards) have brown hair and brown eyes (hazel too). They generally also have light skin pigmentation (most seem tan because of the mediterrenean climate they live in). Genetically speaking (see genotype, haplogroup R1b ) , iberians are very close to english, irish and scotish people. "latinos'' and ''hispanics'' are not a race group.

  • @Lyle24Odelein Hitler did not have black hair it was dark brown and yes most people with black hair are not white. Native Americans, Black/Africans, Indians from India, and Pacific Islanders are some examples. But i would consider Portuguese and Spaniards different from most white/caucasian people. The Spaniards and Portuguese have more similarities with north africans such as moroccans, arabs, and egyptians.

  • @ReptileDude511 You are a fucking YANKEE that does not know jack shit about portugal and spain so shut the fuck up about portuguese people not being white

  • @Raindogs2342 I guess this is coming from a portuguese guy because otherwise why would you care. I do actually now consider all europeans caucasian but i do consider portuguese and spaniards to be latin because there language is derived from latin. I am half Spainsh so i do know about Spain and my culture. So i would think before you talk shit. I am american but im mexican. Spain has brought there culture to mexico. However i am not portuguese.

  • @ReptileDude511 uh...no i'm british, the portuguese share close DNA with the western europeans, specially the irish french and scotish, you do realiaze that the celtic british people came from the iberian peninsula which is now spain and portugal or are you too americanized to learn that? don't worry ur not alone: /watch?v=fJuNgBkloFE

  • @Raindogs2342 Yes i know similar traits are in Spain. There are spaniards in Spain that have blond hair and blue eyes. I know my culture however i'm not fully european like i said im a mixture of Mexican indian and Spanish which is called Mestizo in the casta system. The Portuguese and the Spaniards are modern day descendants of the Iberians. Many spaniards have black hair and fair skin. The american government groups the spaniards with the Mexicans even though they are truly europeans.

  • @ReptileDude511 Well americans are the only country in the world that has this "hispanic" category so just because they don't consider spanish people white doesn't mean they aren't white, the whole world considers them white exept the USA.

  • @ReptileDude511 you've just highlighted the true meaning of "hispanic/latino" when referring to demographics. latino is an abbreviation of "latinoamericano" and doesn't necessarily refer to people from countries of "latin origin" (otherwise italians and even french would be classified that way too - although many people in spain/france & portugal would argue against the term latin also). you certainly would be a latino/hispanic (depending as I understand it on which coast you live on)

  • dude azoreans are Portuguese

  • she is AZOREAN NOT PORTUGUESE AZOREAN MICAELENSE!

  • @Medes14 Azores is a Portuguese island for your information genius

  • Uhhhhhhhh, but Portugal is not a Latin country, and her parents are from a Portuguese territory. I never see any French speaking people winning Latin Grammy's, and French is a Latin language.

  • @Zisin2day PORTUGAL IS A LATIN COUNTRY -.-

  • WOW. Soooo many ignorant people here. Let me set the record straight for the uneducated fools spouting such nonsense about Portuguese and Brazilians.

BOTH the Portuguese and Brazilians are LATIN!! Portugal is a Latin nation, there culture and language is largely derived from the Roman empire. Portugal colonized Brazil bringing the Latin language of Portuguese and culture to Brazil just as Rome did to Portugal. I am so fucking sick of hearing ignorant idiots claim otherwise. THEY ARE LATINS!!

  • @ElJuzgado Dont worry it is known the 99% of Americans are ignorant, they only know about hamburgiers.kkkkkkkkkkkk

  • Hispanophone = Spanish speaker

    Lusophone = Portuguese speaker

Eu, onde estou dizem-me português. Em Portugal sou venezolano. Mas sou um producto de exportação português. Sinto que que Catarina é portuguesa e gosto disso.

  • Latin is not hispanic descent it is the mother language of Europe people that are from latin speaking countries are latin, like Italians, Spanish, Portuguese and French.

  • @pedrfer1 There are Hispanic Latins, Lustianic Latins, Italic Latins etc...but they are all Latins. LatinO is simply the Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian rendition of the word "Latin". "Latino" and "Latin" are the same thing.

  • @ElJuzgado Not really. In north america Latinos are south-american and mexicans while portuguese, spanish, italian people is called latin-european. But in spanish and portuguese, latin-european and latino are the same word, yes.

  • Brasil is such a huge country, is called the Giant of South America, with so many brasilians from diferent ancestry , portuguese, spanish, japanese, italians, german, dutch, native amazonian , black, you name it.

Not all brasilians are portuguese descendant

  • tão querida a nelly...

  • wtf! god why cant people understand that Portuguese don't like being called hispanic were Portuguese not Hispanic get your facts straight goddamn.. i would kno i am Portuguese -.-

  • Portuguese are Europeans as well as people from Spain (Spanish). However, People from Mexico, Central America, Latin America and Parts of the Carribean are LATINOS. Brazilian are Latinos! The term Hispanic is used only if your ancestors have come from Spain. The Language Portuguese is different amongst Brazil and Portugal because the country Portugal speaks actual Portuguese where people from Brazil speak (Brazilian Portuguese). Brazilian Portuguese has more Spanish and African words in it. :D

  • @deirochimaru25 Spanish , African words ?!!

Brazilian Portuguese is the same as portuguese from Portugal it just as a different accent....

    Get that straight !

  • @afonso381 Actually it is not. Several words are spelled differently and some conjugation forms are different to. Get that straight...

  • @deirochimaru25 There is no Brazilian Portuguese. Portuguese is from Portugal that's it. there is Brazilian accent. dont be fool

  • @laton2010 Stop....Read my comment again. THERE IS A SUCH THING CALLED BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE. Just like there is PuertoRican Spanish, Colombian Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Salvadorian Spanish and so on so forth. All those countires speak spanish but they have different accents and different dialouges and terms when communicating and speaking in a conversation, exactly the same way like there is a difference between Brazilian Portuguese and actual Portuguese from Portugal. Thank You!

  • @laton2010 Actually, Brazilian Portuguese should be considered a dialect of the original Portuguese spoken in Portugal, i.e. it would be understood by a Portuguese visiting the country, but the pronunciation and vocabulary would throw them off a little bit.

  • What? I'm brazilian, but I just can't understand the portuguese from Portugal.

  • @wwekidtanman yes I believe the man is Brazilian! He talks a lot better and clearer

  • Nao Gosta Portugees do Portugal .

    nao sabe Porque x

  • I do not care if Hispanics and Portuguese in the past came from the same place! Why even the Japanese, Germans and Inuit, came from Africa! I have great respect for Hispanics. What we mean is that Brazilian PORTUGUESE speak and have our own cultural identity ! Hug to everyone! ; )

  • Hispanic refers to the old Roman Province of Hispania, which was essentially the Iberian Peninsula. However, in modern times, Hispanic is used to refer to people who speak Spanish. Therefore, it's a linguistic designation, not a racial one. The Portuguese don't speak Spanish, they speak Portuguese and, therefore, are not Hispanics. Although Portuguese derives from common roots to Spanish, they are not the same language, in the same way that English is not German, although it has Germanic roots.

  • @fjcnunes I totally agree, I still can't understand why some gringos can't deal with that. Also people from french guayana, haiti or french speaking canadians are latinoamericans - but usually nobody call them like that...

  • theres people whiter than Americans in Mexico in the states of Chihuahua Durango Sonora Nuevo Leon Zacatecas they are dutch mennonites and theyre mexicans, does that make them hispanic no. theyre white european and even though the majority dont speak a word of spanish they are considered Mexicans. And Portugal shares the iberian peninsula. hispanic is people with spanish roots and portugal and spain were essentially the same people but language barriers got in the way amongnst many other things.

  • Why are people so dumb? Portuguese people are WHITE. They're not Hispanic. Portuguese people are European just like Italians, and Albanians etc. European= WHITE/CAUCASIAN. She is a CAUCASIAN female, not Hispanic. Get is straight.

  • @Hotice770 Hispanic is not a race you stupid ass. It is an ethnicity. There are White hispanics and black hispanics. Portuguese is a nationality, as is american or mexican or french...and now days, almost everyone is a mix of ethnic groups especialy in the USA. Get your shit together if you are gonna speak for us!

  • @dvdtrr Um DUMBASS, nelly is not fucking hispanic. No matter what shit you're trying to say, SHE ISN'T HISPANIC. You're an idiot if you think she is. PERIOD. No one said hispanic was a race. But nelly IS NOT HISPANIC. She is a WHITE NON HISPANIC AND THAT IS WHAT I SAID

  • @Hotice770 Well, first of all, she's Canadian. So ethnically speaking, she is portuguese. I never said she was hispanic either. But you said Portuguese people are White not hispanic, as if hispanics cannot be white. That is where YOU are wrong. Because you can be white AND hispanic, so just shut the fuck up and take a class.

  • @dvdtrr How about you shut the fuck up and learn how to read. My comment was directed towards this idiot who said she "wasn't white because she is Portuguese". And I said "Portuguese people are white, not Hispanic". Because in my country (I have no clue where YOU are from) a full blooded Portuguese person is considered a non Hispanic WHITE person. Hence the fact I said that they're white and not Hispanic. I didn't say everyone who LIVES in Portugal is white.

  • "babo-me" lool

  • She doesn't seem confident on the interview..

  • latinos are the people from south america that speak latin languges such as

spanish/portuguese/. there is no diference between brazilians and other countries in south america only by colonization

in my opinion portuguese and spanish are nearly the same shit.

  • @TheFun4u123 actually the original meaning of latino is a person that is from lazio roma even tho its a old meaning its the real n original meaning just thought u would like a history lesson lol

  • proud to be portuguese

  • Enfim um Brasileiro que nao critica Portugal.

  • @Anderson93BR

she´s born in canadá , but the parents , father , mother etc are portuguese yes.

  • I think portuguese speaking countries don't have much influence as Spanish speking countries are, although I believe that, it is a BELLA LENGUA como Español.

  • south america is south america we are all latinos and some of us had immigrated so tha's why we have an accent.

  • lol she's so uncomfortable speaking Portuguese and she has this funny accent from Azores.

  • @jayjayprincess

    so what ?

    is natural.........lollollol

in USA you have inglish , inglish american , texas , austrália and etc. so is normal !!!!!

  • that's right. Nelly is not hispanic. Nothing against hispanics, but i am part portuguese. two different places on the globe. Brazilians are not hispanic or latino either. they don't even speak spanish. they are portuguese, indian and african descent. Let's get it together and go back to school. Do us all a favor, for the ignorrant out there, do not ditch geography when you go back!

  • Hispanic is of Spanish speaking descent. Brazilians are latinos, from Latin America, despite if they dont' speak spanish, portuguese is a latin language. get that straight.

  • @BrasilMigs

Close. Hispanics, actually, can only come from Spain. "Hispania" is Latin for Spain.

The term "Hispanic" for Hispanophiles is an error made by the US government in the 1960s. The proper term is "Latino" which also includes many Swiss and Luxembourgers as well as Belgians.

  • @Bunnyroo7 actually, Hispania was the Roman name for the entire Iberian Peninsula- including Spain, Portugal, and Andorra.

  • @BrasilMigs : My step-grandmother is NOT Latin. She is Portuguese, her friends are Brazilian and argue that they are not Latin. In fact many Brazilians feel this way.

The Brasileros I attended international school with agree that though they speak a Latin based language and that Brazil is made up of many Europeans and AmerIndians, that they are not Latin.

  • Comment removed

  • @BrasilMigs Thank you. At least someone in here is educated. The United states seems to be rife with incredibly idiotic people. I had to say it.......

  • @future514 it's true, I won't call a portugese or someone from a portuese speaking country like brazil hispanic. It's kinda like calling french or italian hispanic, just because they have similiar words.

  • I always thought Nelly was hispanic xD

  • she is Portuguese not Hispanic Portuguese don't like to be called Hispanic

  • @shasta69

You're right, and Hispanics don't like to be called Portuguese :-]

  • @shasta69 Brazilians are Latinos, but the Portuguese did not!

  • @shasta69 Thank! You!

  • a mulher no final é uma travesti o.O

  • q portugays estranho xDDD

  • So witzig bist du nicht.

  • what is the title of the song from 4:36? Thanks

  • Nelly Furtado100% PORTUGAL!!!

  • she got both nationalities

  • How is her portugese?

  • It's brilliant... portuguese accent though which is kinda formal.

  • She doesn't introduce herself as portuguese at all. She's canadian, even though her parents are portuguese, shes 100 % canadian.

  • Its normal! Im the same portuguese born in Canada... and im more canadian... because im born here... and its my country... i cant see myself living anywhere else... its my country now!

  • traidora

  • Traidora não sou! É a verdade!

  • Nelly is universal and therefore also Portuguese. She doesn't belong to Canada.

  • Exactly. She's of Portuguese descent, not Canadian. She was just born in Canada. She's Canadian AND Portuguese.
