In other words the two guitarists are playing notes that are one note apart in unison. For example, if one of them is playing a C then the other one could be playing a D or a B. Basically, it's meant to sound chaotic. An easy way to get this effect yourself is to tune your guitar down (or up) a half step from any song that you want to play along to.
