PRIORITY TARGETING IN THE BOYCOTT CAMPAIGN MEETINGS IS NEEDED!!!!!. A MORE RATIONAL APROACH THAT FOCUSES ON BOYCOTTING ISRAELS BIGGEST ECONOMIC SECTOR: "DIAMONDS" OR MORE PRECISELY "CONFLICT DIAMONDS"...
Oh I see. And if a black American attends a university in the U.S., he/she relinquishes the right to speak out against slavery? Listen to yourselves, people, and wonder no more why Israel is reviled by the world. You are consumed by hate and delusion.
This vile man and his movement have already said that ending the occupation and the creation of a Palestinian state will not appease them - how can anybody support this blatantly fascist group? People like him make anti-Semitism "acceptable".
Mr Barghouthi holds a Masters degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University, NY.
However, if he is a Palestinian who holds Israeli (second class) citizenship, it implies that his family pays taxes (which also means likely that their municipal services are lousy....infrequent garbage pick up, rare water/sewage line repairs, lighting, etc....but IF he holds citizenship in that 'demockracy' and education is offered to those who are, then going to university there is a moot issue.
If adequate resources (water, fertile lands) were available in equal proportion along with other considerations like SOVEREIGHTY over one's air, water and land, which Israel refuses for Palestine...then perhaps comments about 2 states poll well but the reality is that resources have been 'expropriated' taken stolen seized by zionist govt for decades and sucked up like water for swimming pools in illegal settlements while Palestinians under occupation barely have enough water to Drink.
TEL AVIV, Jan 18 (Reuters) - U.S. chipmaker Intel (INTC.O) will invest $2.7 billion over the next two years upgrading its plant in southern Israel to produce its next generation of chips.
I see on YouTube a widespread concern for the suffering of the Palestinians. As commendable as this activist's sentiment is, it can quickly lead to a naive, exaggerated and oversimplified view of not only this particular conflict, but also geopolitical reality in general. International diplomacy, world history, political philosophy and moral theory are all far too complex to accommodate silly retreats into black and white conceptions of good/evil and right/wrong.
BDS and Barghouti are not interested in peace. Their interest is in the destruction of Israel through the Right of Return of the refugees.
Which country in the world will allow refugees in in numbers that make them the majority?
He talks elsewhere about Jews having the right of return to Europe - bullshit. Imagine millions of Jews from Israel and around the world flooding into Europe.
It's not true that Palestinians don't support a two state solution - over 80% do in recent polling.
@dFont70 Half of Israelis are from Arab countries anyway. There was a population transfer in which the arab governments took from the jews they expelled but gave nothing to the arab refugees. Even the PA & Hamas refuse to settle their "refugees" as normal citizens. Disgraceful and shameless.
Ok so, every inch needs to be boycotted collaberation, products, cultural, academic, peace atempt, (peace would be a disaster for these guys since it will collapse the entire initial concept). What about the aid that is trucking into gaza from Israel ?
I'm a big supporter of BDS and of PACBI but not of Omar Barghouti. He is studying for his PhD at guess where... Tel Aviv University! While supporters of the boycott like Ilan Pappe and Neve Gordon face death threats and either leave or consider leaving for doing so. The rest of us face charges of antisemitism daily for supporting the boycott - while he, the 'face of PACBI',who could afford to go to any of thousands of other universities worldwide undermines us all. What a prat.
The Israeli occupation and war crimes are worse than apartheid, this is what the activists from South Africa like Desmund Tutu say, these are the people who have suffered under South Africa's Apartheid and they say that Occupied Palestine is much worse than Israel.
I don't feel I need to and I don't apologize for anything. I just explained a few facts related to Israel proper and not to the occupied territories.
I have no defense to the building of settlements, which I oppose. Regarding the checkpoints, however, they were created in response to terrorist attacks coming from the territories.
Let's not forget the sequence of events, the "terrorist" attacks came after decades of brutal occupation and humiliation of natives by foreign occupants. The first intifada as well as the second intifada started as peaceful, non-violent protests but Israel used helicopters to bomb peaceful protesters and then came the violent attacks from occupied people.
You should have lived in Israel at the time of the first and second Intifada. I am sure being through the experience of 'non-violent' bombing of buses and stabbings in the streets, you would have understood the reaction. Tell the families of all the people who died in bombing of buses, pizzerias and night clubs, how non-violent that was.
Even the "Israel proper" is built on remains of Arab towns from which the natives were forced out by Zionist terrorists. The millions of Arab refugees still await justice, under International law they have the right to return to their original lands, they still have the keys to their homes but they are not allowed into their homes that are in "Israel Proper".
Going back 60 years won't help anybody. Israel's Jewish population in 1948 numbered 600,000. It numbers more than 5 million today. These people will not vanish into thin air. The world has seen bigger refugee problems than Palestine, but this is the only place on earth where the problem still exists and the reason is the belief of Arab countries that by keeping it alive they will reverse their defeat in 1948, which by the way, was started by the Arabs. The solution lies in a two-state solution.
Your apartheid state's ideology is based on "going 2000 years back" and you're telling me that going back 60 years won't help anyone. There are new victims of Israel every day, if there is no justice there will be no real peace, there will only be fear.
Peace will be when the Palestinians accept Israel's offers for a just peace. To date, three Israeli Prime Ministers - Rabin, Barak and Olmert have offered peace based on 100% of Gaza and 97% of the West Bank. To this date, no Palestinian leader has accepted the offer. So, both peoples are doomed to continuing killing and suffering. Perhaps in 10 years and after thousands more dead and immense suffering, they will come to their senses and think about their own people.
Every year UN votes on a resolution for a peaceful solution for the Palestine problem, the only states that oppose the resolution are Israel, US and occasionally Australia and some 4-5 Pacific Island states.
The solution is simple; apply the international law, give the refugees the right to return or compensate them, Israel is not willing to do that, Israel is stealing more and more land every day.
A peaceful resolution is one that takes into consideration the fact that there are now 5 million Israelis on this land and history cannot be reversed. Does anybody conceives a possibility of German refugees to return to Poland? Sudeten to the Czech Republic? Moslems to India? Hindu to Pakistan? Greeks to Turkey? Turks to Greece? Sunnis to Baghdad? All of these are human tragedies, as the Palestinians' is a human tragedy. We can try to turn back to clock, or move on and let them live their lives
Palestinian tragedy happened a few decades ago and it's continuing, Jewish organizations made billions of Dollars from blackmailing German corporations (even though real victims didn't get much) and you're telling me that we need to "move on" while Israel demolishes more and more homes and builds more and more "Jewish-Only" settlements on freshly stolen land every day. Screw you.
I should have refrained from cursing, but when you're defending ethnic-cleansing, occupation, racism and apartheid, you infuriate me and then you come back to tell me that my style is below your standard.
Israel is a Nazi state not just an apartheid state, machine gunning fisherman and farmers killing children, destroying people's livelihoods, house demolitions, torture, occupation, political assasinations, rampant militarilism and religous fanaticsm of an evil racist degenerate ideology that Jews are the chosen people (ie. "Master race"). Not unlike Germany or Alabama in the 1930s!
I hate calling people names, but you are a fanatic ignorant. If Israel is a "Nazi state" what do you call the Syrian dictatorship that killed more than 10,000 civilians in El-Hama? What do you call the 'enlightened kingdom of Saudi Arabia'? What to do you call Sudan after exterminating 2.5 million people in the South and more than 1 million in Darfur?
I am sure that's nothing compared to several hundred demolished houses, a few tens of terrorists killed by the IDF while planning assassinations
Hitler killed 6 million Jews so what? Stalin starved to death 10 million Ukrainians, Chairman Mao killed 15 million Chinese in the culutural revolution. Americans killed millions of Native Americans. Turks butchered 1 million Armenians and Shimon Peres amongst others is a "Holocaust denier" to appease relations with Turkey. If you want to go in the numbers game Hitler was relatively peaceful! Wether its 1500 Gazans or 6 million Jews mass murder is mass murder and Israel is guilty of mass murder!
You really missed my point, but I am not surprised. Nevertheless, let me try again. The point of my questions was to establish if you are truly concerned about all the atrocities in the world, or do you only care about what Israel is doing. Is is always right? No, but its deeds pale in comparison with all the things I mentioned. Things that are much serious than what Israel does and which seem not to attract much attention. Do you care about all these things? Do you protest against them?
I am not sure if you don't understand the differences or just plainly ignore them out of hatred. I will give you the benefit of doubt and try to explain:
The Confederate States of America -> Slavery
Aparthied South Africa -> No legal rights for non-whites
Nazi Germany -exterminating Jews, Roma and starving to death Slavs
Northern Ireland -> Fights between Protestants and Catholics over political and economic primacy
@rsegev yes, you are right when you make the list longer, but you need to CORRECT "Israel ->equal rights to all citizens". You know full well that it is a PARTIAL truth. A few facts for your information:
- In the Israeli parliament there are three Arab parties
- In the Israeli parliament there are 13 Arab members (>10%)
- There is one Arab judge on the Israeli Supreme Court and a number of judges serve in lower courts
- There are two Arabs in the IDF holding the rank of General
- A number of Arab citizens serve as Israeli diplomats (e.g. the former Consul in San Francisco)
- Israel has two legal languages: Hebrew and Arabic
Is this apartheid?
rsegev 1 year ago
A few facts for apologists of apartheid:
- Israel continues to demolish Arab homes and continues to build Jewish-only settlements in the occupied land.
- Any non-Jew has to wait in lines for hours to go from home to college/hospital/work and back.
- Every year dozens of pregnant non-Jew women have to give birth at checkpoints because war criminals don't allow them to go to hospital.
- There are Jewish-only roads and settlements in occupied land that steal resources of native non-Jews.
