  • lol 5:35 looks like a pain in the... to fix and pull out of the truck. i would have compacted the cart depending on my mood then.

  • Exactly why is yard waste such a pain in the ass for the garbage man?

  • @Nomad1718

just guessing from viewing the video. but I think yard waste is a pain in the a** because it has so much volume yet is so light, that it compresses badly, it needs more time in the press than regular waste. Thus the garbage man gets less done in his work-time.

    am I correct, WasteCnxSideloader?

  • @Nomad1718 cause "green waste" takes up more room in the truck than normal garbage, just like recycling, ( unless its grass clippings which are very heavy(wet) and compactable thus putting more weight on the truck in the same amount of space as branches would take up)

  • cool bubbles

  • anybody just reply whats that pink colour thing at 3.13

  • 3.13 whats that pink thing is it pillow

  • Eric do you think if a flyer were left in all the peoples you service mail box.Saying that you could composte all your leaves makes great fertlizer for flowers and vegtables.Just asking those who have an interest in gardening to use their leaves instaed of them ending up in the landfill where noone benefits.Would save a huge amout of space in your truck and the landfill.Just a thought sine my city composts our leaves have been for 5 or more years now thanks paul

  • I know! We compost everything we can (leaves, food waste, ect)! We just started so we don't wave compost yet, but soon!

  • Geez almost every stop!! Great seeing more hopper ftg. from you, I'm not even caught up on videos so your delay hasn't affected me lol :) Happy thanksgiving!

  • Maybe some of that grass could have been woven into things?

  • If you can't burn it or compost it, it has to go somewhere. That's a problem in a city. Usually not enough space to compost or the neighbors complain about the smell.

  • A properly made compost file WILL NOT smell.

  • You couldn't have told that to my late wife. Her sense of smell was so keen that there wasn't anything I could do but buy some chemicals for composting that stopped the smell.

  • That broken cart really came as a surprise!

  • Here in Blackpool, England (United Kingdom) we have to recycle whatever we can now. We get a black bin for non-recyclables, a blue bin for plastics and metals and a green bin for cardboard and garden waste. A lot of people complained that there would not be enough space for the waste initially. However later on, most black bins were nearly empty, proving that most consumer waste is recyclable.

  • Do you think an old first generation xbox (the black Xshaped one) would survive any garbage truck packer? I've always wondered. lol

  • tonyreyes , a Xbox, would crunch if i got my hands on it,i would just put the packerblade right down on top of it,"crunch" ! let it slide back up into the hopper

  • Judging that tables, couches, big screen TVs, and who knows what else that's been crushed by trash trucks hasn't, I'd most likely guess no. Most likely.

  • id like to see a fan get crached!

  • smashstuff28, watch "thrown away" june 15 2009 from wastecnxsideloader,NICE VINTAGE CEILING FAN & A GARBAGE CAN ! get crushed @0:21~0:30 :P ,packer blade nails it :)

  • Has anything ever busted under the pressure of the compactor and flew out and hit you?

  • Yes, I have two scars on my face to prove it.

The first time was almost 10 years ago, I threw in a small cheap wood entertainment console thing, and somehow one of the wheels on the thing flew out of the hopper and hit me right in the eye.

I couldnt see out of that eye for 2 days because it swelled shut, but other than that and the blood there were no long term side effects.

The other time I dumped a cart and the metal catch bar on the cart flew off and hit me in the same eye, needed stiches.

  • @WasteCnxsideloader DAMN!!!!!!!!!!Hope you were okay.

  • cool...

  • Nice vidd, those residents must be real lazy to be still chuckin recycables in with the trash...

  • And what happened with the cart? Does that happen often? Do they repair them?? If that were an asl, you'd be shit outa luck it would have gotten smashed I guess. Oh and by the way, you said you graduated with SMASHING honors, ey old chap!! lol Great vid as always Eric, keep em comin!!

  • Hi Eric !! Great archive!! If you have more unused footage, then use all of that up first, hey it's just as good as any new footage that you would create. Anyway, Mitch is right, they need to start a greens pick up maybe they could use an older truck for that. It's a shame, I'm seeing big bag loads of grass clippings put in the hopper that have good soil mixed in with it. They should stay on the grass. They gotta be heavy!! And the leaves, well how bout if they invest in a vacuum truck.

  • Oh who knows, they've introduced a recycling service... so maybe the next step will be a seperate yard-waste service? Though just looking at all the stuff that fell into this hopper, a lot of it was RECYCLING -- residents lost interest in recycle bank, eh? Anyway enjoyed the packing, and didn't expect that cart to fly in with everything else at the end :) Nice vid!

  • This vid was actually shot over a year ago, before we started Recycle Bank. It's actually kicking ass, people love it because it makes recycling as convenient and easy as possible.

It's still a voluntary program in the city of Wichita though, so there are still plenty of peeople who are too lazy and stuck in their old habits to participate.

It really is a great program, and is also a great marketing tool as well- it has increased our number of customers considerably so far...

  • There are some smaller towns in outlying areas that we have contracts with, and they have mandatory recycling so they automaticaly are enrolled in the recycle program. People are much more willing to participate when there is an incentive.

The new contract that starts in December with the city of Derby (just outside of Wichita, around 8,000 homes) includes mandatory recycling and everyone gets enrolled into RecycleBank. Basically, we have the better mousetrap!

  • Ahh that is much more understandable now... year makes a difference :) I agree with you there about a higher participation when an incentive is involved, bet there'd be a hell of a good recycling rate if a similar RecycleBank initiative is introduced to other councils. Do you think there is going to be a chance of introducing a seperate yard waste service in Wichita?

  • The issue of a yardwaste ban has been on the table for over a decade now, but no agreement has ever been reached. The city council has even established a proposed time for the ban but then just suspended it indefinately.

Too many people in the local government would rather just let things slide the way they are, alot of those politicians throw out yardwaste with the trash too!

  • wouldnt that sorta b a fire hazard in the back??

  • well since people like to recycle so much, this is the most obvious thing to recycle wouldn't ya think? compost duh?!?! I tell me people all the time "go throw it back in the woods!"

  • Oh i wanted to tell you Eric at one time the city here used and old garbage truck an RL it was the only one in the fleet to run on gas and they used it to go around and pickup just bagged leaves it was neat watching it pack leaves. They us other trucks as i don't know what happened to that truck haven't seen it in a long time. The city said we are starting volunteer recycle and people can take their recycle out to nuway.I knew that would not work i aint doing that either let them pickup .

  • Had to do this again becauseran out of space... Some people don't drive elederly can't haul it out there that just didn't and won't work i think the city knew that even the mayor said something to that effect..So when they start recycle if aluminum cans are set out on the curb i can't see many making it there stealing will be wild.I sale all i find and save been doing that all my life. Thanks for the video..

  • You know Eric, even with a ban on yardwaste, it doesn't help. The landfill bans yardwaste. I service a village that has their own yardwaste site free to residents. All residents were reminded NOT to put yardwaste in their carts. But where does it end up? Yup, you guessed it. Some people save their garbage up for 2 weeks, just so they can FILL their 95-gal cart with grass one week. Leaves, twigs, plants, brush...etc. And it's very hard to refuse service when you are contracted to pick it up.

  • The county right next to the one I live and work in has a yardwaste ban and there is a small local company that dumps out in the landfill that has the ban and I have noticed that they still pick up that stuff anyway, but they won't pick up piles of tree limbs and bags and bags of grass outside of the container, etc.

I wouldnt mind if it was like you say,and people made an effort to fit the stuff into their cart. Here they fill the cart up with trash and put all the heavy yardwaste outside of it.

  • Ahh i see what you mean. They put the light stuff in the cart because they probably can't lift the yard waste into it, so they leave it next to the cart for you to deal with. So yeah, in your case...I would rather people fill their carts with yard waste.

  • That reminds me of running my old ASL route in Santa Rosa County, FL. When I was working out there a couple years ago... they ONLY had carts - one per customer. If it didn't fit in the cart, it NEVER got picked up. There was no yard waste, no bulk, and no recycle collection. You'd be amazed at how creative people can get to fit things into a 96 gal cart. But like you said, it adds unneeded waste to the route. In the summer 1/3 of my load was yard waste. Plus illegal dumping was a problem.

  • I ran out of space... also wanted to say: Great job as always!

  • Thanks!

  • When I look at that it looks so damn cool/fun:P!

  • 5:35 broken carts suck. lol

  • Danny19921125,broken carts become lost or "eaten& digested carts" :P

  • where i live it's a £200 fine (roughly$300) for putting that much garden waste in with the hushold rubbish.

if we want to remove garden waste- we have to rent a seperate bin for about £50 ($75) a month- and then they send a different truck to come and get it...

  • Damn thats expensive! I bet that encourages people to compost more...

  • Why Thailand are all mixed garbage?! One bin full of all kind of garbage (recycle, green, trash and toxic) then 2 hauler dump it in truck where another 2 hauler stand in hopper keep sorting those mixed garbage in order by type.

  • 5 stars and faved! if this was from last fall , would this be truck 743 or 734?

  • Its 743, shortly after I started driving it

  • Due to the state of California recycling laws where I live almost every city has a seperate yard trimmings collection process. Or it's filtered out at a recycling facility. Great video BTW.

  • Even here in blytheville arkansas yard waste is seperate from garbage. They compost leaves and the bulky stuff like furniture and appliances the metal was being taken to the scrap yard. But are garbage is cremated in an incenerator. But they are starting the recycling going to furnish us with bags for recycle stuff one of these days don't know when.Eric thanks for the good video i allways enjoy your vids very much. The after christmas i look forward too them..5 stars

  • Awesome, some more hopper vid!

Have not seen any of this from you in a long time....

You are right though, all that green waste looks like a pain and certainly does not belong in there with the garbage.

    Thanx for posting!

  • damn that sucks dude. well great footage tho! fav and five stars!

  • do you work for the mafia?

  • My city requires seperate bins for yard waste and garbage. The yard waste is composted and sold back to the public as black dirt to help offset the cost of collection. It would be even more economical if everyone just composted their own yardwaste.

  • Not sure I see why yard waste is ant different then Trash to deal with.

  • Another great video! Your route is like 3 in one, garbage, recycling, and yard waste. While it definitely sucks for you, it's amusing to watch.

  • these videos are so hypnotic and relaxing XD, nice vid by the way!

  • here, it's picked up seperately, but in my case, we're told to dump it all even though its not supposed to be inside the dumpster...

  • nice job man how many tons you pack in that monster anyway ?

  • The most I ever put on so far is 13 tons, but a typical packed full load is between 10- 12, depending on what sort of crap I had to throw in that day. If there is alot of cardboard and bulk stuff it packs out faster with less tonnage, but if its mostly just regular trash it packs a heavy load.

  • looks scrumdiddlyumptious lol

  • Nice!! That looks like a pain in the ass and on top of it the cart falls in. 5***** and fav :D

  • That is crazy especially because you take it to a trasfer station. Great video!

  • what a waste ,people spend money on fertilizers when they could just use a "recycling blade "on the mower, they should just composted it ,or burn it the "old way" or make mandatory yard waste recycling like new york city, or korea has,in nyc they even recycle pumpkins, leaves ,branches & christmas trees...........i prefer to set them on fire though :P

  • Awesome vid! waste connections needs a separate yard waste pick up like we have. The truks get really full of green waste!

  • our company picks up yard waste seperatly they use temps. for yard waste

  • nice job
