why was there three wires? is one for synching them and the other to are for positive negative?

There are actually four,
Power, ground, sync, pattern.

so is power and ground positive and negative? and the synch u just connect 2 lights together? and the pattern u just touch to like a positive side of a battery? thanks so much,
