Thank You for this video - it recalls me, in Finland - of those who have passed. The musical background by LED ZEPPELIN is the right chose. Rest in Peace - we will remember you forever.
The name is Duane ALLMAN, as in the ALLMAN Brothers Band. He died in a motorcycle wreck in Macon, GA on Oct. 29, 1971. He was 24 years old. His partner and original bass player for the Brothers died a year later in another motorcycle accident, also in Macon. His name was Berry Oakley. For a clue of just how influential Duane and his band were (and still are) to modern music, search on Bill Graham introducing them closing night of the Fillmore East, 9/23/70.
I think outta respect to these dead people some of the supposed reasons of their demise as listed on this video are incorrect. Urban myth is a whole new dimension. The pray for these people message is lost on some people too including spiritual non believers. Furthermore i really didn't see anything to enjoy, oh maybe it was the song, is that it ?
Just a few more that come to mind that deserve mention: JACO PASTORIUS, Danny Gatton, Steve and Cassy Gaines, Allen Woody, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Pigpen, Brent Midland, Keith Godchaux, John Kahn, Berry Oakley, Duane Allman.
MOZART, Robert Johnson, Charlie Parker, Gary Moore, Randy Rhoads, Jeff Healey, Amy Winehouse, Michael Hutchings, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Ritchie Valens, Etta James, Falco, Whitney,
I often wonder, if we as fans would treat our music heros like our best friend, instead of like a God of perfection, perhaps they would be less likely to turn to drugs to cover their mistakes which is what humans make. We want to rip their clothes off, get a drum stick or a guitar, an autograph. How about breathing room and acceptance. Fans are sometimes an accessorry to murder through high unreachable expectations. RIP all of you who enriched our lives.

@100bloodshot You are so right! They all could have gone so much earlier, too. I think that God gave them chance after chance but they continued to drug up and now they are silenced (our loss). Rest in Peace to all.
@davidshultz2007 I never thought of it that way. Being killed in a crash or murdered is not the same as killing yourself over or due to drugs, of which alcohol is a drug. I guess that they never thought it could happen to them. But it did!
@davidshultz2007 Some people have trauma in their lives, and if they are genetically wired for addiction, the substance abuse starts. People who are "overly self indulgent" are not addicts, it's impossible for that to ever occur. It's not a choice, it's hell.
@davidt5764 So you expect all the homeless people in this country and aroudnm the world to accept that someone who had more money than many could help raise money was "traumatizzed" and wasnt self indulgent -- just troubled.
that soudns liek something lindsey lohan or brittany spears would try to tell a judge with a straight face

@davidshultz2007 The title is....Musicians who died too young. So this is regardless HOW they died !! If it realy does matter HOW they died, then the title should have been ,,Musicians who died too young because of Drugg/Alcoholl abuse,,
@davidshultz2007 You really do need to learn something about the nature of addiction. Everybody who tries drugs thinks they can do it "just once." Most get away with that. But some can't stop thinking about the next time after the very first time. That's why they call it being "hooked." Of course it is different with different drugs and each person is unique but the fact is most drug/alcohol rehab cases relapse. It's easy to judge others when you're not in their skin. All tragic deaths.
For all the commenters who say the poster left a lot of people out, Tthere's a limit to the length a YouTube video can be -- 15 minutes to the best of my knowledge. Therefore, the number of people included couldn't be exhaustive.

Jimi Hendrix - The Last 24 Hours" tell you he was murdered. Possible same for Janis; Jim Morrison died of 'Natural Causes' official post mortum statement, he was an alcoholic who was dry when he died. FYI

It's his video. He's done a terrific job. Please show respect to lildrummerboy50 and the musicians he chose to memorialize here. Count yourself fortunate that you've , apparently, never lost anyone close to you older than 30-years-old. If you ever do, you'll know they died way too young.
Good work... You can add Elvis to the list of drug overdose deaths as those who were in his inner circle would attest. It has always amazed me the number of musicians who use and have used narcotics only to die early of an overdose ! They see this happen to so many of their contemporaries and yet they still use, overdose and die ! Why do they think they can handle drugs and this wont happen to them ? Why ? Why can we not learn from others ?
@s13hgp I have many sources, the best being excerpts from " Elvis..Albert Goldman "11-82..chapters 18 and 19.is bsn 038060350g dozens of people who have worked with Elvis over the years have made public statements in and out of press about Elvis prolific use of prescription drugs.Elvis never thought of himself a s drug addict because he had prescriptions.that he could get at the drop of a hat.
@s13hgp Talk to Linda Thompson, or any of the Memphis clan that cared for Elvis night and day & they will tell you of the 25 + Rx drugs that Elvis always had on hand.As for Memphis public documents, Big E had enough pull to have those whitewashed.I loved Elvis but he was a prescription drug junkie and far too many people that cared for him have said so. it does no good to ignore the facts.Read the above stated source and see if you change your mind.
It's called addiction. It's an illness. People who are sick with addiction aren't logical. Their minds are clouded by their addiction and years of consuming drugs and alcohol. They don't think about the consequences. They don't see/admit that consuming drugs and alcohol never lead to any positive outcomes. I know it's hard to understand for people who've never suffered from addiction. They were in the grips of a beast called addiction that they couldn't free themselves from.
@livininomaha I understand addiction AFTER you are hooked but....why do they use it the first time knowing they can get hooked, after seeing so many of their friends die ? Do they think..."I can control this beast even though my friends could not " ? So Sad...
@dbrinkm1 I think a lot of people who are vulnerable to addiction (genes/ biologically/physiologically) are often risk-takers/thrill-seekers. They're the kind of people who live for the moment, who say, "What the hell? Why not?" They're less inhibited. More impulsive. That's not to mention, that drugs/alcohol are readily available to musicians at every level, but particularly at the top. I'm sure they're hard to resist when the expense and risk of arrest are totally removed.
@dbrinkm1 All that said, I couldn't agree with you more, it's incredibly sad. To see a person self-destruct WAY before their time through alcohol and drugs is beyond sad. That's why we, as a society, have to take away the stigma of addiction and recognize addicts are in a life and death situation and need medical care and treatment the same way someone with cancer needs medical care and treatment.
Dude, I can't believe you left out Duane Allman, one of the greatest guitarists and song writers of all times. And I'm pretty sure Phil Lynott actually died from kidney failure(as if it really matters).
In my mid 60's now, it is sobering to see these faces. Some I knew, Tommy Bolin was a special friend, and others were fellow musicians. Drugs and alcohol, and I survived it all. I tip my hat to all that passed before. Many changed the face of music. Thanks for this moving tribute.
Thank goodness for people who made it out to the other side of the drugs and alcohol-fueled lifestyle. I love redemption stories, stories about 2nd and 3rd chances, and stories of people who got clean and stayed clean. As we see in this video, not everybody survives. Bless them. They are remembered.

@dbrinkm1; I think you need proof of the death certificate before you write anything at all, you are just guessing!

Jerry Garcia was only 53? In pictures and video I had seen him in (in the late 80's) he looked older that that.
