  • The shotgun most well known for slam firing was the Ithaca mdl. 37. In both the riot and 8shot mag "Deerslayer" models the slam firing capability was retained. It had a 24 inch barrel so 4 about 4 inches was beyond the magazine tubes end. This made the Ithaca very easy to install the ventilated hand guard with the bayonet lug, that handled Garand bayonets. Since it ejected its spent shell casings out the bottom of the receiver, instead of the side it was usable by both right and left shooter

  • The guy at the beginning of this video looks like he was hunting for Bugs Bunny...

  • Love it I shoot my handguns with both eyes open but have found I shoot the shotgun with left eye closed .... Back to the range!!

  • Anybody else notice that this guy was carring his Etool on his LCE, what were they thinking back then. This is an OLD video, ha ha ha.

  • It is amazing how much lead you can put down range in such a short time with a shotgun. In an emergency you can use the recoil to help you chamber another round and then fire again right away. I am no expert but I can go through an 8 round tube with multiple targets in only a couple seconds. Definitely a way under appreceated weapon. Not to mention with a bead sight sight aquisition is way faster than with a scope or rifle sights.

  • Brent McTaggart takes no guff.

  • My bayonet is longer than yours!

  • Wow, been a long time since i've seen one of those winchesters with the WW1 trenchgun heatshield

  • @garrettzkool63 its a winchester model 12 not an ithaca, all ithacas eject the shell out of the loading port on the bottom, not out the side,

  • Why don't US Fireteams carry at least one shotgun in urban combat? It should be fielded more often

  • @FrankDaTank1218 most do, ours did anyways.

  • Cool to see the Winchester model 1912 still in use after so long.

  • i think thats an ithaca because the bolt is flat and it has the pump release in front. so its not a rem or moss

  • Better not use that shotgun on me over your war on drugs Ass holes lol

  • was this video filmed with a calculator

  • It's important to protect the jewish interests with the US/jew army. Keep up the good work! Watch out for suicide!!! LOL..

  • look at that bayonet at 3:39 holy shit

  • smooth bore flintlock rifle. wtf and he is the curator .

  • awesome

  • Saiga 12 would be perfect

  • when was this made?

  • I noticed in this video that the Army does not use a specific-brand of shotgun--During the 80's, the Army supposedly picked Mossberg shotguns after trial-tests of several other makes...At any rate, this video is cool since it shows that shotguns are good weopons for self-protection in 'civilian' matters...

  • Mine was a Winchester M12. Good weapon. Then we got the lighter M870A2.

  • the shotgun was the only weapon that the Germans tried to ban in World War 1.

  • Looks to be 1980's vintage video

  • Get your E-tool of your web belt, there slick.

  • I just called the number (at the end), and its now some child protection agency lol.

  • or maybe its a training facility disguises as a child protection agency hmm?

  • lol, you should call'em up! Its a conspiracy!

  • @Migs4000 can we say "gunslinger girls"? ^^ (search up the anime plot summary on wiki if you dont know)

  • @Migs4000 "disguised as a child protection agency" lol, wont you gentlemen have a pepsi.

  • @MP7A3 hahhahahaha

  • @MP7A3 what better way to protect a child then with a shotgun? xD

  • I'm gonna say 90s because there was some video that showed troops that were involved in the Desert Storm conflict. 1:02

  • I'm going to figure this was from the mid to late 1980's. Using "fritz" helmet, but old woodlands camo pattern. The shooter in this video was really pretty good, he seemed to be able to "do his thing".

  • old m37s (ithaca 37) before the 1980s are what your referring to. the seals used them during vietnam and they were issued to the military in the past.

  • The beginning of the video is awesome because I think he is holding his finger on the trigger while pumping the shotgun. Supposedly the U.S used some shotguns during the Vietnam war which allowed someone to hold down the trigger and just pump, if anyone knows what I am talking about I would like to know the manufacturer and model of this shotgun. thanks.

  • it's called slam firing....most modern shotguns have removed (or blocked) due to safety reasons....military shotguns usually kept that safety off for obvious reasons...this thing looks like an old mossburg (500?) but im no expert

  • It is an old Winchester 1200

  • @Migs4000 Pump shotguns and lever action rifles have a 'disconnector' so as not allow slam-fire. All Mossberg 500s retained the safety feature including military with exception of 'field modifications.' IF trigger sear was sloppy, just one pump could send your partner to the wrong destination.

  • @peterann1

    I know.

  • @Migs4000 No, most EVERY pump shotgun has a disconnector, he's just firing a Winchester Model 12 which is one of a few along with the Win. Model 1897, and Ithaca Model 37, that has NO disconnector. So you CAN 'slam-fire' these weapon's as fast as you can close the action, wouldn't recommend it though, not the easiest to control with 00 Buck!

  • @Migs4000 That would be my grandpas (and now my) shotgun. Good ole winchester model 12 Hooah

  • @Migs4000 It's an old Win M12(wonder how silky smooth that pump is by now, mmm, LOVE Win pumps, the 1200/1300 'SpeedPump' is INSANELY fast and smooth!!!) from the looks of it in the 'trench gun' setup, and the safety being in the FRONT of the triggerguard(if it's gonna be on triggerguard, I HATE the Rem 870 position BEHIND, prefer Win's setup. Great ole' gun! Yea, he says it at 3:00, Win M12! LOVE IT! Gun from the good old 'Walnut and Steel' days!!

  • I've got an old J.C. Higgins I can do that with.

  • Comment removed

  • @JimTheMingebag - You're talking about the Ithaca 37.

  • @JimTheMingebag The 2 guns used in Nam were the Winchester model 12 and the Ithaca model 37. Both don't have a trigger disconector. My 1925 Winchester model 12. When the action has been pulled back and then forward. The only way to pump it again is to first pull the trigger.

  • @JimTheMingebag the ithacas had what was called a browning bolt which allowed you to hold the trigger and pump the gun till it was empty. newer ithacas dont work that way.

  • @JimTheMingebag I don't know of any others, but one is the Ithaca 37. It's the shotgun my grandpa used in Vietnam.

  • Oops, I guess like 10 people already answered that lol. Sorry to dig up a year old comment.

  • @JimTheMingebag Ithaca 37

  • @JimTheMingebag its called slam firing i saw some of it the other day in videos i think its mostly older modle pump guns my friend could do it wiht his pump action twenty two but it was very old try looking at the older model shotguns

  • I think the Ithaca 37 is a notable police and military gun that could slam fire.

  • @JimTheMingebag Ithaca Model 37. Until about the mid 80's, this Ithaca could be 'slam fired'.

  • He finger should not be on the trigger.

  • He's just machinegunning THE OLD FASHIONED way. When you're engaged you ALWAYS keep your finger inside the trigger guard and on the trigger until disengaged. Older shotguns did not have a trigger disconnect therefore you could hold the trigger down and just pump it. Modern pump shotguns can be modified easily, they are simplistic. Safety? MFGs just found a reason to charge $800+ for a shotgun. If the gun could be slam cycled who would have a reason to buy an automatic?

  • Whichester model 12 and Ithaca m37

    can be fired that way.

  • im not so sure about the two eyes sytem with assault rifles, which ned accuracy, the shotty ok. but you try aiming down sights with both eyes down iron sights, its not easy. i think he meant for closequaters with the m16, because you can aim and fire quickly at close range, but further than 100yrds, good luck!

  • He means CQB. More or less 'pointing' the weapon quickly and spot on rather than aiming it traditionally.

  • quick reaction, when an enemy has already spoted use and is razeing their gun and almost got you dialed in their sights, fractions of seconds are key. and a shotgun offers that advantage that with buckshot you dont have to be extremely precise. hell at 50 yards I can point and shoot and hit a man all over his body, At 70 yards you still have good supressive fire.shit wont penetrate body armor, but you can bet your ass that you will demoralize and lower the combat effecancy of the enemy by a lot.

  • good training vid...great job for finding it

  • Halo is a pretty cool guy, eh?

  • Anyone try calling the numbers at the end?

  • HA...i never even thought of that....i'll call when i have time lol

  • Wow that guy at the begining is really good at managing recoil.

  • Indeed, very impressive technique.

  • I love the old scattergun!

  • I like shotguns but I still think their use in modern warfare today is very limited.

  • actually in urban combat, most fights take place within 50 yds. The shotgun is making a comeback because of this, and its ver easy to maintain. Got like what, 3 moving parts?

  • Perhaps you are right. I think guns like the AA12 if sucessful will defenetly make a comeback like you said.

  • Chicken wings anyone? wow this video is old.

  • Interesting --- You know who's voice this sounds like?..... Ted Koppel the news guy....

  • you can use the shotgun for other thins too! search in yotube for vietnam weed :D

  • never seen someone work a shotty like that.. pro.

  • i teach shotgun breaching and find that many soldiers do not know how to use or even disassemble the shotgun issued. And the strange thought that they can not clear a room with the shotgun after the breach? (no special rounds, just 00B.

  • so they are taught shotguns are used for breaching only?

  • yes and no. it is just the thought from units coming through that they cannot clear the room with the shotgun? I am not sure where this comes from unless it is a safety thing?? Most only allow 2 rounds loaded for the breach than transition to m4 unless they have a Benelli m4 then everybody freaks out? i say let them breach and clear the room, train them to do it and no problem!

  • One article I read explained how the army was worried about the over penetration of the 00buck when room clearing with a shotgun, not that a 5.56 would do anything more -_-

  • could be? well the 5.56 is worthless at that range unless they have 77 grain but that is not gonna happen for reg. units. The "PC" is killing the military right now! everyone is soooo concerned with collateral damage! Fuck! I say bring back the flame thrower and everything else!!! FUCK the islamic fucks up now before it is to late

  • and now the Big Man obama is calling for a $55 billion cut in defense......these next few years are going to be interesting for the US military

  • I don t really think so US military will sugger that much I think US military got to be pretty stocked with all the supplies, ammo and stuff. Just to get rid of all the ammo will taje couple years right ?

  • yeah basic ammo and rifle we can afford well....but i mean those aimpoint and ACOG's can cost as much as the rifle itself...plus all those pretty new guns under development will lose funding (which we need)

  • What I think, USA will stay superpower anyway, I don t think so it will enfluence states security at all. What I definitly do like about States is pretty stocked military.

If only we had United states of Europe so we could set the new military of EU. Not like now when each state got somethin and all said and done we got nothin. : (

  • well the US will remain a superpower as long as we don't have a revolution or something, but im not gonna make any quess work at this point.....can't wait for obama to screw up something

  • You got Demo Dick you don t have to worry :) In fact Richard Marcinko had both Slovak parents. We are proud of him. Wish to meet him once.

  • or for him to get shot

  • Cool vid. I would like to receive the same training with my shotguns.

  • aa 12 full auto 300 rpm ftw!

  • yo the bayanet on that shotgun was huge

  • Who the hell needs an auto shotgun :). Goes to show training and technique overshadow fancy hardware

  • If more people would actually learn to shoot, like the soldier in the film, we wouldn't have as many overweight posers spending thousands of dollars upgrading their gear to compensate for their lack of skill, instead of just investing in practice ammunition and quality instruction.

The guy in the video shows that a good user with a pump shotgun is as fast as can be. You can only deal with so much recoil, and if you can't pump as fast as your gun can shoot you're not doing your part.

  • thank you that is one of the smartest comments ive ever heard....although buying equipment is tempting (cause its fun to accessorize, but im not a 17 year old girl), training is more important than anything. But if you woulf have given the guy in the video a space-age combat shotty im sure their would be a change in preformance....get the training done first, then accessorize

  • Thanks! You should come over to thehighroad . org, it's the most common sense shooting site I've stumbled across. The shotgun section contains a wealth of knowledge...

  • Where did you get this video its sweet! and lol i wonder if im related to that McTaggart guy.

  • What is the point of double tapping with a shotgun? The Army sould look at the Saiga-12 which is way better than the 870.

  • double tapping a pump shotgun? that would be like double tapping a bolt action rifle, it cant be done! and the Saiga 12 is a russian made weapon, which the US will never adopt. (same reason why we never adopted the AK-47 or any of it's variants)

  • At the begining of the video the guy is double tapping targets. I agree the AK will never be adopted by our forces like in Vietnam. The down fall is that reloading takes so long, if the USA-12 or AA-12 was adopted it would bring a lot to the table.

  • i know that some military shotgun have the ability to shoot as fast as you can pump, you just hold down the trigger and every time you complete a "pump" it fires off the shell...yeah the AA-12 is a great improvment towards loading shells individually

  • The Saiga 12 is completely different than the 870. But the 870 is kind of mute, as the current Army adopted shotgun is the Mossberg 590A1 and that is being switched to the Benelli M4 Super 90.

  • well the 870 (with all it's variants) is still really more of a hunting shotgun then a combat shotgun, although it has been proven in combat.

  • so you know migs, if you didn't, the remington 870, and its variant the remington 870 police magnum, are the most widely used law enforcement shotguns in the United States. If there is a shotgun in a patrol unit, it is a Remington 870 Police Magnum, whereas TAC/SNOO/SWAT, whatever theyre called by you favor the HK made Binelli tactical shotguns. Do not be confused, the 870 was not produced for hunting applications.

  • i meant the design of the shotgun....new designs are more favorable to military and para-military applications....870 is pretty much the AK of shotguns

  • dually noted migs =)

  • looks like an old winchester at 00:35

  • Very cool!!!

    5 Stars!!

  • the 2 eye thing is somewhat bs, I'm blind in my left eye and I shoot extremely well. ( I didnt lose it to shooting of course lol)

  • "you'll shoot yer eye out kid" lol but not really...the 2 eye thing is a little tricky to get used to because with your other eye open it gives you that "invisible" illusion for the eye you aim with

  • Well Ive lived with one eye long enough that I don't have depth perception. First time I shot a shotgun, I nailed 35/36 clays that session. My only miss was the first shot when trying to understand the recoil. After that it was smooth shooting after that point. :)

  • my first time was 5/25 lol...was terrible at clays but beat my friends in the hanggun competition lol...eh you only really use one eye to shoot anyway, well i do for that matter

  • yeah you got me on the pistol competition. I haven't shot one yet :P I love shotguns to much! My favorite is the 12 gauge Benelli Nova Pump. Super slick shotgun!

  • Shoot with your dominant eye, your "invisable illusion" is your brain telling you that what happens in this eye is more important and you find yourself looking down the side of the gun with a slight ghost of a sight picture. Swap hands and you've got a sight picture with a ghost of the side of your gun that you brain filters out. However it allows you to be aware of information sent to that eye about motion and obstacles as you move through the environment.

  • shooting clays isn't shooting people. Not that you have much of a choice.

Two eyes open allows you to sense more motion and allows quicker acquisition of targets, while shooting with one eye gives you tunnel vision because your sole focus is on the target the bead and the barrel.

  • yah...i just wondered if you could use that technique in both situation

  • You can, I shoot clays with two eyes open, I airsoft with both eyes open, and I'll be running around Iraq with both eyes open, but I'll have a camera most of the time there though :P. If you notice Olympic shooters shoot with both eyes open and a blinder.

  • yeah but they use a blinder...i just spent 4 months with an NRA competitive shooting team and the blinder itself proved extremely useful since you are not stressing facial muscles...i guess its up to the shooter and how he is comfortable shooting

  • Ive grown so accustom to shooting while having my blind eye that I can aim down the barrel with my good right eye, make the shot, then use my right eye like I would as If my left eye was still functioning. Its sort of hard to explain when most are used to the fact of using both eyes. Heres an Ex. I use my perif vision of my right eye to make my next shot, even when I am still looking down the barrel after the initial shot. When aiming down the sight, I move head to the left 4 a complete view

  • wow this video is old

  • Happy Birthday America, Keep up the Fire ! Pro Patria doughboy

11B All the Way Everyday ah ha.....

  • good video!! thank u

  • The way that target just fell apart at 0:48 was BADASS.

  • its in the 80's because it is before we adopted the Benelli M4

  • it looks like a 80's or 90's training
