Lord she pushes her delicate quaint voice any harder she's going to pop a blood vessel in her head. Everyone else seems to be singing quite comfortably and relaxed but she eagerly tries to out shout the rest what a mess. She's just like so many other coloraturas with these delicate instruments trying to be a dramattic coloratura.

The cockerell at the end is a funny idea...

Maybe she was mic-ed (lots of major opera houses do that now (this was at Covent Garden, I believe)) as a response to her surgery? Regardless, she sounds magnificent, and she exudes an energy and presence on stage that not even Juan Diego can match (acting-wise or vocally)!

I think it's because a rooster is one of the national symbol of France, and they're saying "Salut à la France!" here?

Hi Foxy, I'm french and I don't speak english very well. It is true, the rooster is a french symbol. But I saw on french TV this production of The Daughter of the regiment (but in London), and there was not rooster at the end. But I think it's funny !

I'm glad Dessay is back :) She sounds as if she never had the surgery again! Maybe no more notes in the stratosphere, but she certainly has her Eb!
