there is so little info on star amps, i really am interested in the celestial 30 (as a good alternative to the dc30)but cant find a sound clip anywhere. etleast this gives me some idea of the quality.
Too much talk, not enough play, and when he does play, it sounds so-so. Anything Mark Sampson designs is always a little half-ass, Matchless went, Badcat he left too, and now this Star amps project has also vanished without trace. Perhaps Sampson should try sticking to his guns, that's how legends are born, eg: Leo Fender, Jim Marshall, etc.
I find it laughable that you just referenced some of the best amps ever made... and called them half-ass. I'll give it to you that the overdriven tones on this amp aren't the best, but the cleans are full and bubbly, just beautiful. All the amps Sampson designed for Matchless were great... and 90% of the ones for badcat were the same.
Seriousely? Whaaaaaa? You know nothing about Mark...the guy gets hired to build amazing custom amps for individuals and makes a darn good living that way. Unfortunately he has a passion for small and boutique rather than large production and that is only unfortunate for us not him. Mark Sampson is already a legend and by the way have you looked Star amps are still a working company. In fact I just ordered a new Celestial 30 because one of the greatest sounding amps ever made.
Yeah!! The heaviest combo I have ever picked up! It's the el34 1-12 closed back combo model. I played 65 amps memphis combo at supersound music and the tone on that amp is amazing. The bump feature is not channel switching so it is truly unique..
It doesnt have the gain of Marshall of course but it isn't as twangy as a Vox! Have you tried out the 65 Amps? Cool tone. I just recently bought a Bogner Shiva el34 with the 1-12 classic celestion. Very Marshall tone on the drive side but clean channel can out do the Marshall, more fender. Your amp is another of Mark Sampsons lineage. Great idea of classic rework the best of the best! Nice vid!
Does this guy make videos just to hear himself talk...?

You know what the tone of this amp reminds me of? Silvertones...particularly the 1484's.
