My grand-parents smoke...My parents smoke...and I smoke, been smoking 20 a day for 17 years and it ain't done any harm to me. I can still do 100 push-ups or sit ups, still run with out shortness of breath, etc... I also get sick a lot less often than all the non-smokers I know.
Strangely enough, so did I, also for about 17 years...after I hit 30 though, I began to notice a shortness of breath, and the smoker's skin started...I quit a few months ago. It all catches up, I guarantee you, it's a frog in a frying pan situation, and I have been blessed w/ incrediable health my whole life...just makes me feel even worse when I think what more I could have been had I never started sucking that crap in.

why can't people make their own decisions without the help of television? If you personally dont like smoking, then dont. If you want to smoke and your of the legal age to do so, then smoke! it's personal choice. No commercial should try to glorify what they think is the right answer. Even if hundreds of thousands of people die every year relating to smoking ciggs, they still have the choice to smoke or not smoke. These commercials promote a redirict ideal of fascism, sensorship and suppression.

i guess if you were a long time smoker and had just found out that you were pregnant, maybe you see this commercial and it becomes the deciding factor for you to quit. The commercial itself definitely wants to convince the viewer that smoking is wrong, but the problem is that they use shock value to get that point across. In other words, this commercial is very deceptive and dishonest even though it displays certain facts.

The very idea of having intolerance towards something, or suppression for a certain cause/idea is fascism. EX., I will respect you less because of the clothing you wear. This ad tries to shock its viewers with a stat (a completely untrue one), and hopefully scare them away from smoking.

people now adays are so skeptical,the world is poluted by carbon monoxide and tons of other chemicals,sooner or later death will come upon us because of some other reason,i smoke cuz i like the feeling,if you dont wanna smoke then deal with it and shut up,id rather smoke in chemicals and enjoy it rather than not noticing that im breathing in chemicals everyday by walking across the street or what not.although i know the risk is high that the fact ill get lung cancer at least i know i died happy

It's not just unborn babies, there is a clear link between sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and smoking.
Most SIDS deaths could probably be prevented if pregnant mothers didn't smoke and babies were not exposed to cigarette smoke.

People start smoking to look cool and it takes a while to get over the gross taste and smell. Once you're addicted to the nicotine (which is tasteless and odourless) your brain tricks you into feeling good about smoking as it tops up your depleted nicotine levels.
The whole thing is about about making tobacco companies rich while watching their addicted customers die a slow and painful death. People should be pissed off at the fat cats who own tobacco companies not the addicted losers.
