  • I am very happy to see the vidoe One of the best CALCULUS problems I have ever seen using calculus. Shows that in fact it is useful in life! from you, hopefully the others also are happy for You

  • I am very happy to see the vidoe after you give this One of the best CALCULUS problems I have ever seen using calculus. Shows that in fact it is useful in life

  • I Love The Video It Can Increase My Knowledge One of the best CALCULUS problems I have ever seen using calculus. Shows that in fact it is useful in life!

  • Nice Video One of the best CALCULUS problems I have ever seen using calculus. Shows that in fact it is useful in life! That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You

  • I Really Like The Video From Your One of the best CALCULUS problems I have ever seen using calculus. Shows that in fact it is useful in life

  • after i watched this video, my insight is very open because the video is very good to give information One of the best CALCULUS problems I have ever seen using calculus. Shows that in fact it is useful in life

  • The answer is NOT in the monetary value/spending limit; the answer is self-evident in the differences in fractional quantities being represented. In other words, most will grow quickly tired of 1/2 cakes over time as opposed to 1/4 cakes over time, sooner. The intuitive is a derivative of the obvious.

  • is he ratarded....??

  • this is not AB Calculus, this is Algebra III liner programming with vector applications.

  • Dammit, shut up and get to the problem! 1:43

  • you can eat as much cake as you want if your grandma bakes it and makes it delicious. that being said, eating cake on a daily basis is directly proportionate to gaining weight., maybe 5-10 lbs a month

  • ummmmm...........

  • i didnt understood anything hehehe

  • he looks more like a gym teacher than a math teacher.

  • /swag

  • I just graph the equation with a ratio of x and y by removing z through substitution, then take the derivative to get the maximum "y" value.. based off that I substitute it in and this time graph it with just x and z, take the derivative to get the maximum "z" value.. substitute it in and find x... get the value, add them up, compare it to the final price then make a ratio between my price and the final price along with $100 and a number n. Then use n as a ratio to amount the original max values

  • simple the answer delta

    im in 5th grade

  • Upon completion of my calculus course, my teacher made us write research papers -_-

    lol

  • Optimization...

  • This all equals a corndog.... do the math, you'll see

  • @Artools Shutup and look for something to make fun of. Anyone notice his shirt? Looks like a marijuana plant.

  • @OctopusPrime113 His mouth is so wide, wow

He looks like some kind of human-frog hybrid

  • Wow.. Didn't understand anything of what he said. His lips are so huge and disturbing!

  • Wow, I want to be able to do that. im in grade 10 and and taking calc and physics i am sitting in on grade 12 classes and i gget it! Should i infrom my principal and get bumped up to grade 12 math? Or can that even be done? (im in canada)

  • @HHockeyKid18 Wow, interesting I'm just like you or at least i used to be, I'm in my third year of calculus and took AP calc and AP physics just like you did in 10th grade....And trust me don't try to jump ahead it's hard enough as it is right now, sure I got through the first year of Calc in a breeze but later on it gets much too difficult to skip ahead

  • I heard that Price changes Demand, companies don't produce where MR = MC, and perfectly competitive markets are the same as a monopoly.

I'm sure I'll get a 5 on my AP economics exam, right?

  • and i'm only learning prealgebra in 7th grade

  • just use lagrange multipliers... it's the same thing in a more compact form.. and don't tell me people haven't learned that in high school, i know!

  • this isn't fucking economics

  • @bobjimjones Go back to school

  • Jason bourne teaching calc.... i love it.

    Great video too!

  • lol who gives a crap 1:00

  • @arsalanche what a teacher ..

  • O_O! Wow.

  • the answer is... delta(xsquared-deltaysquared+xsquared)

  • after you solve for z and plug back into the utility equation, do you not have to do the square root of (100-2x-5y)?

  • (about 15 minutes later): GAH! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS! ΘoΘ

    *gets to real studying*

    =Math

  • Optimization is one of my favorite parts of calculus. This is a hell of an optimization though. I'm taking the AP Calculus test TOMORROW ΘoΘ, and I should be doing some real study tonight but I can't pass up trying out a problem like this.

    =Math

  • @MathsVlog me too......

  • fukkkkkkk i just looked at the problem and my head started hurting....

  • Hmmmm... I feel nerdy for understanding the question... lol high school

  • Looks like calc III to me.

  • calculus is fun and easy

  • when im stoned im a calculus guru

  • @brandon32405 of course! the ppl that made this shit up were stoned no doubt

  • This is just a basic problem that everyone encounters in intermediate microeconomics, but it's not like it's a unique, specific example of calculus that occurs ONLY in this instance of economics. Calculus is used as a TOOL for analysis in many fields, economics being one of them. Nevertheless, it's great to expose people to some basic stuff they can encounter in college.

  • @Artools Welcome to America. At one time the most intelligent nation on the planet. Now home to the apathetic brain dead.

  • @MrRiceowlex Our tiny American brains can not understand you, so leave us lesser mortal alone... DICK.

  • this is not really that hard

  • where's the explanation?

  • Utility is a quantity of satisfaction. Totally figurative and its number is only used for comparisons, there is no scale.

  • lol this video is complete bullshit. You cant compute utility in economics, that is a liberal pseudo science.

  • come on it is not that hard, i did it in a couple mins by using laplace multipliers, though i really liked this kind of problem, multivariable calculus applied to economics is really interesting.

  • @debunker1905: Did you use LaGrange multipliers?

  • yeah, that's right, my bad, i was studying laplacian right before i came to this video and then made a mistake on the names heheh, i used lagrange multipliers not laplace

  • Thanks -- I had to ask. It could have been something I hadn't heard of.

  • Giving out free LOCKERZ Invites RIGHT NOW!

Just message me with this format!:

    E-mail: (Lockerz is INVITE ONLY!)

    Short Message:

Thank you,and remember,PRIZE REDEMPTION IS COMING THIS MONTH!

  • the fuck do u mean lockerz

  • this guy looks like a monkey...

  • flame war

  • none of this shit is useful in life.

  • You are using a computer, a product of math and physics, to claim that math isn't useful.

  • oh fuck no dont tell me i gotta do this economics. plz dont let me do caclulus again plz plz plz

  • why is this video cut short

  • Does anyone else feel it like he is reading what he is saying??

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • *some people

  • Yes Sir!

  • non-Americans talk more about Americans than Americans do. They talk more about their "expperience" than explain the real facts

  • @nousou28 It comes from a lack of planning. This guy didn't plan out a script or think through his video enough. Just jump in and start and work it out as you go. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it crashes.

  • I agree..lack of planning..I did not get what Jennmnesta wanted to say.

  • fuck u nigga

  • Your mind is smaller than a parasite!

  • Your hobbies are "Islam". Your experience is to hate America, and that's a fact. Nice try from you too.

  • It is not about hating America..But that how you are guys!

  • Another person claiming to know all 300,000,000 people in a multiregional, multicultural country... Thanks nousou28, you've proven once again that stupid happens everywhere.

  • I am not claiming, I am sure about! Look at most of the comments and even Americans say that. Well yes stupid is everywhere but especially here in America, sir! Welcome though

  • You're sure of it because you're a moron. Being confident in something that isn't true is the sure sign of hatred or stupidity. That is you.

You're not funny. You're not smart. You're just a waste of oxygen.

  • We call people like you PARASITES..you know that? Go do something else and do not waste my time..I do not hate anybody but this my point of view..If you like it you take it if not then leave and shut your mouth.Good luck with your stupid comments.

  • And WE call people like you scum. You know that? You couldn't begin to comprehend how outmatched you are. You are a hater, and a stupid one at that. Your point of view isn't simply a point of view, it's veiled hatred... but that's just my point of view, so take it or leave it you dumbass.

Your hateful, simple-minded, boring ass is worthless. You claim to know 300,000,000 people... and you think my posts are stupid? Grow up you idiot child. Learn something in your wasted life. Fuck-up...

  • dont have ur perioud now

  • Get back to sucking cock Lungreos.

  • Yes I believe period! I am not a hater, I just do not want to waste my time again with you..Actually there are 299,999,999 because you are out from the list..I do not consider you buddy! People like you should not have a point of view, so please keep it and do not share it with us..Good luck with you anger.

  • You are a hater. Say you are not... but you are. Why do you assume I am angry? I am not. I simply am telling you you're an ignorant, hateful wretch. I only tell the truth - and the truth is you're a waste of oxygen. Said with or without passion, that statement is true.

Idiots who can condemn whole countries or cultures based on media or silly stories are wasting the rest of our resources. Bye moron.

  • What resources!! Ok whater, I am sure about what I have been saying..Yes I hate people like you..People who just talk with no sense..Anyway good luck

  • Aw, the idiot is on replay... poor baby. Your certainty only emphasizes your idiocy. You hate many based on your moronic assumptions. Good luck with being a moron.

    LOL

  • Ok being nice does not work with you animal.well animals are wiser than you..you do not deserve to be. by the way, are you his lawyer? I forgot you are such animal and you cannot be better..shut your mouth..I do not hate this country becos i live in :) I have a very good relationsip with people..yes people not animals like you..Note: THIS IS THE LAST MESSAGE FOR YOU BECOS I WILL NOT WASTE MY TIME WITH YOU..I WILL NOT READ YOUR REPLY, SO DO NOT DO MR.SPAM :)

  • Hello monkey nousou. You've lost - you hate without knowing and you're as dumb as the bug from the bottom of a shoe.

    Good work, moron. :)

  • You are the stupidest ever in the world..I am sure you know that. :)I have lost what? An animal like you? Animals are nicer than you Zhamtao..Go look at the miror and you will see..Ah sorry, the miror will get scared from you..go away then :):):)

  • You idiot... you said you wouldn't respond. But I guess since you're a little monkey who can't control himself you just keep blabbing your incoherent grunts and sounds.

I like making little primates like you do what I want. Hahahaha. You have lost again. You should really stop trying... you're pathetic.

Keep it up little monkey - you're funny. Idiot.

  • You are not funny..I am lost because you are a big animal :) I was right..you could not see your big stupid face in the miror..Anyway.. I am still wasting my time with you little spam..go clean your mouth..I do not know how people cohabit with you..You should be in jungle to live stupid animal..ciao..I promise this is the last message because I will not read your idiot comment :). Go to the hell then!

  • Aw, little monkey Nousou is back! Good job little monkey!

  • Continue this any further and ill report you both for this unneeded arguement. And i WILL do it,

  • are you the site lawyer?

  • This is considered a hate message, and im reporting it.

  • Feel free asshole. Belittling someone's intelligence based on the fact that they post like a lower primate is awesomesauce!

  • and what country are u from cunt?

  • American

  • he did not explain what he did in the board? !!!!

  • This is why our finals are in the beginning of June AFTER a full year of lessons have transpired...

  • only a LITTLE more complicated? your ONE problem fills the entire board behind you!

either way, i am impressed by your calculus prowess.

  • Why is it that a math problem that takes up two pages is such a big deal when a typical book is 400+ pages long? Looks like math would be the better read...it is more concise.

  • You can also solve this problem using linear algebra. Ah constrained optimization!

  • For people who suck at math, you don't have to necessarily understand whats going on in the problem.. just remember the steps and thats it. Just memorize what you do first.. second and third.. don't over think it.

  • This can be very useful for World of Warcraft and maximizing stats because it directly interfaces with the law of diminishing returns (a big focus in stat balance in world of warcraft).

  • Yes That is true, but i found that this Problem was very usefull for Dungeons and Dragons with the Magi Ability Stats because if you use Trig to Excommunatate the Linear Biologics of this problem, I found that it increases your chances of inheriting the Glass of Infinia Buff which rases you Dexterity by 40% and your Attack Tributes by 55%.

  • LOL dude thats fantastic !

  • HAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHA also it adds 25% intellect and overall decreases your mana burn by 37.14%

  • Yeah, too bad it uses 83% of your Magic relationship to your summoning of the Dark Immolation Spell, which is not good for Raid party's going to Orgrimarsh.

  • lmao i suck at math i have a D in algebra 1 D:

  • My favorite was using double and triple integrals to prove geometry volume formulas. Good times.

  • glad i got a degree without calculus haha

    Art major for life

  • Comment removed

  • Awe man, he didnt finish it. I want to know how to use that problem really bad.

  • cool problem.. i miss calculus

  • i almost failed prealgebra.. ... OMFG.

  • This dudes mouth is FREAKAN HUGE...liek xbawks hueg!

  • lol

  • Haha... I was about to say that same thing.

  • I see a cannabis leaf on his t-shirt.

  • i dont think that is lol..

  • That blows, I wanted to see how you solved it.

  • Ew.

8th grade Algrebra I is scary enough O3o

  • LOL good luck in lyfe

  • then why don't you try it in 7th grade

  • holy shit, i know! this is just WRONG! ugh...is calculas required? :P

  • thats true i am in 8th grade with algebra I

  • @j3ffr3y80

Thats good man, I had the same thing. MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION in algebra I though, I had an amazing teacher that taught me the basics very well. In algebra II you will go over many of the things in algebra I, but it will get alot harder.

  • Where's the rest of the problem? The video seems to have cut off early.

  • Your utility fuction specification doesn't meet the the criteria defined for utility fuctions in economics withing the theory of consumer. Please check your sources.

  • Not sure if you made an error in the utility function or an error in the substitution, but the z^0.5 was overlooked and just treated just z.

  • Nice video. Intro. for an interesting problem, and motivation for the student to learn multi-variable calculus.

  • meh, that problem isn't that hard.

  • Want to see how 5th grade art class teaches calculus? See my video called Calculus is String Art.

  • lagrange multipliers makes this easier

  • exactly why we solve the identical problem with lagrange multipliers in the next video

  • just learned disc, pop-up, and washer today!!!

  • is that weed on his shirt

  • yes, yes it is

  • Adidas logo, tard

  • No, weed has seven leaves, that doesn't even have five, which is what most people mistake for weed. Know your drugs!

  • well then arent you a fag?

  • addidas moron

  • After seeing this video, I have mad respect for the mathematicians that figure all this stuff out so that we don't have to... O_o

  • I agree with you on the Shells and Washers. Totally useless. Might have actually passed Calc2 with a B if not for them.

  • why cant they just give the AP tests in june?

  • they give the ap calculus test in early may because there are so many students who take it that it takes that long to grade them all -- no joke

  • It gives students on the east coast an advantage over students on the west coast... they get another whole month to study.... its crap

  • mathematicians are funny haha

  • Haha, i bet u all that no one noticed his mistake... when he substituted for z=blablabla... in the black marker on the bottem left of the screen, HE FORGOT THE SQUARE ROOT (^1/2)...

  • You sir, are an idiot

  • Im not saying that im a big shot. However, im just pointing out his mistake so that the other would know.

    Whos the IDIOT now INDIAN...

  • Only someone gay would of caught that FRUIT!!!!HAHAHAHA

  • napster would seem to be right.

    epic fail mathman.

  • To me it is one of the easiest calculus problems and not the difficult problem.Try solving navier- stokes equations in fluid mechanics. But give credit to your effort to educate non-economists about utility.well done and best wishes

  • i dont even take calculus and i think i already know how to solve this one

  • oh yeah?

  • so physics is good because physics is calc...come on enough with the econ jargon that we'll never use again, and start to fill your subjects heads with useful information. Can you apply this formula to a real life situation, yes including the numbers? But, thank you for the video and nice hand writing. (ie I'm in my fourth year at UW-Madison in mechanical engineering)

  • midnighttutor-

first of all why would you ever teach this problem, because of the fact that no business student in college will ever use this information (or econ major). Most major colleges require two semesters of calc for liberal arts or business majors. So why don't you teach Laplace transforms or even vector math (dot product, cross product....). This will help your students who go on to higher level calc/science classes, and use the information they learned in your high school course.

  • he dosnt teach a class anymore, he said he did two years ago.

  • I'm only in high school calc, but cool video, very informative and descriptive.

    Awesome job.

  • What the hell would you use this for in real life?

  • so your stocks dont all crash at the same time

  • xD that would be soooo bad

  • wow, what can I say? I'm glad I wasn't in your class. A month + and all you could come up with were boring business problems. You could have skipped the shell method and went onto taylor's theorem for multi variable. Infinitely more useful! The problem you do isn't very innovative or amazing. Personally, I find physics to be much more interesting than business. Isn't that why they pay the guys in finance so much, I mean, because their problems are so dry?

  • I don't know, I really like candy.

  • He says "cackulus"

  • I'm in grade 11 and we're about to do calculus next term. This stuff seems like it takes a while to do, would of been good if he had of worked it out for us quickly

  • man, this guy used to have big muscle. I can tell

  • e^(pi•i)

  • meh

  • hahhaha I loved the "eating cake" example...

  • This is really easy. It's really not incredible. It was very small part in my advanced economics class. All you do basicall is find the curvature of the consumer's utility function, use the lagrangian multiplier method with respect to the consumer's budget constraint ( which is simply where the consumer's budget line is tangent to the utility curve in this case (3-dimensional) then subtitute to find optimal quantities!

  • This is just finding the vertex of a 3D warped sheet.

  • This isn't an incredible calculus problem. I've seen problems that'll give you nightmares for a month.

  • By the way if your wondering what kind of method he used, he used Lagrange Multipliers to maximize the utilities.

  • My last post is a reply to shatadip from India.
