  • I just helped a machinist with a 30 ton press get the rear wheel bearing out of my MB estate wheel carrier...and the 30 ton press struggled. This tool is great in principle, but I wonder in how many applications the user will not be able to exert enough force to remove the bearing? And then you're faced with the cost of the tool...the machinist charge was $35 and next time, he lets me use his press for free (I have much previous press & jig experience).

  • @Real1shepherd I've used it on a number of wheel bearings, it's more than paid for itself already. Removing the upright also costs an alignment. I've crushed a couple thrust bearings (part of the tool) on seized up bearings but haven't needed to use a press yet.

  • @enigmo81 Well, the rear wheel bearing on 124 MB estate wagons is a notorious bugger. The bearing itself is $135 new and huge. Like I said, it cost me $35 with a machinist and the next time for free. The B90 kit for "German cars" is over $500. Before all my tools were stolen, I probably would have invested in this tool and done friend's cars etc. Now, I just buy the tool that I need specifically for a job...or rent etc. I like the this particualr tool concept though-very slick!

  • Dude, have you ever heard of a tripod?

  • Sure have, I accept donations. Send me a mail and I'll gladly give you my shipping address.

  • My hub tamer came in today. Was it hard to remove the bearing? I will be using a 25" breaker bar.

  • Wow - 8? that already paid for itself.

  • Thanks for the reply. Was it worth the money?

  • Has been for me, but I've already done about 8 wheel bearings.

  • That is a great tool! expensive however. Its like 500+. I just bought a hub tamer for 260. Did you grease the screw?

  • Yep, heavy grease on the bolt. The thrust bearing does most of the work though.

  • Try an impact gun next time for pulling and pressing the bearing, it's a lot easier.

  • impact tools void the warranty on the B90. it's easy enough with a 1/2" ratchet anyways.

  • Oh, I didn't know that. I have a hub shark and it says you can use an impact gun. I always have to break it loose with a long bar, but the impact gun will take it the rest of the way.

Quite an amazing tool, I must say.

  • Where do I get that tool?
