  • Mon the Biffy!

  • Should I get silver or black?

  • is there a bug difference in size of the 120 gb and 80 gb or is it just like 1 millimeter or is it very notice able

  • They're pretty much the same size, but the Classic has a rounded body so feels thinner :) Also, some iPod video cases will work with the Classic but not all :)

  • ok ty

  • I hope so... I want to try it since I will soon have my ipod video. anyways, thanks for that detailed review.

    more powers.

  • can a radio feature possible for an ipod? :)

  • Yep :) There are radio adapters available for 'em :)

  • thanks, but I'm just wondering how they work... because there are some people who gives a bad review with that radio adaptors and often say it don't work.

  • I haven't used one myself, but i've heard good things about the Apple radio/remote :)

  • Thanks! :)

  • hey man i wanted to know how can i watch that video in the response. its private i really want to see it

  • You're not missing anything, it's really out of date. None of what is mentioned in that video applies today :)

I made that video private as i didn't want YouTube getting all fussy over copyright audio when i got partnership :)

Anyway, basically everything i said could do with improving in this review has been fixed ;)

    Thanks, Aaron

  • Great review and U have a really nice sounding voice :)

  • Thanks :)

  • how is the battery life??

im thinking of getting a refurbished 80GB iPod classic like this one....

  • I believe that its upwards of about 35 hours.

  • does the click wheel get dirty at all?

  • Nah its alright :)

  • NICE VIDS HOMESKILLET

  • what's the actual battery life upon normal use? Like using it for playing 192k/s or vbr mp3's.

  • Really good :D Don't have to chareg it much at all, most my of my music is in 192kbps :)

  • nice doc where can i find it

  • I got mine from tescos but you can find them on the net :)

  • this is a great vid for info thanks a lot. How much was the ipod when you bought it?

  • damn that is one beatifull ipod.. im buying one but only in june.. i can't wait.. and now thanks to you man i am gonna buy it.. i though the screen is to small to enjoy a movie or a tv show but after i saw southpark at your ipod im no longer thinking that

  • Glad you found it helpful!

    Aaron :D

  • I'm saving up some dough to buy an ipod classic, and I heard about some software problem that bugs up your ipod classic when you try syncing it with windows vista. Has anyone else heard of this? Because I'm running on Vista, itunes works fine, but I don't know what will happen if I try syncing up an ipod classic with my vista operating system.

    Suggestions?

  • Ooo im not sure. I remember back when vista was launched iTunes was buggy but that's been fixed quite some time now. Im not sure if the iPod will have issues my mum uses her iPod Video with a vista PC and it's fine :)

Try Googling around for info on it :)

    Aaron :D

  • Does anyone reckon that getting a 80GB Classic (NZ$350) is better than a 8GB Nano (NZ$300)? I have about 5GB of music and 2GB of Videos. iPod Classic or iPod Nano?

  • If you want the best value iPod go for the classic :)

    - 10 times the storage of a nano, for $50 more.

    - Bigger screen.

    - Better sound quality.

Really, out of all the iPod's currently available i think the Classic is the best value :0)

    Hope that helps :D

  • My ipod classic makes a clicking noise when it loads =(

is there any way to stop it

  • That's the hard drive loading data :) Every hard drive based music player will have this :)

How loud would you say it is? I could be a bad hard drive - the sound from mine couldn't be heard unless its very quiet in the room :)

  • nah, its not that loud, im just a paranoid person :)

    sweet dude

  • i hope my ipod is good in the long run because i do not want to save up for another 250 bones just to buy it again.

  • you cant see any sweat markers in the black one because the top is aluminium as in the silver one

  • wats that ticking sound?

  • I think the noise your talking about is the sound of the camera lens adjusting, it's really annoying - you can hear it on all of my vids where i use the fuji camera :)

  • excuse me, I know its not pretty much to the subject but, whats the song u played on the ipod to prove the speakers????

  • Biffy Clyro - Joy.Discovery.Invention

They're a great band, check em' out :D

  • I got an ipod classic for christmas this year and im realli struggling to put videos onto it, i was wondering do you know how, and if you do could you tell me? :)

  • Some video may not work straight away because they are in the wrong format, search videora ipod convertor on google and download that app.

It's really easy to use, hope that helps :D

  • Thankyou!!! :D

  • Thank you for recommending videora for video conversion! I've started converting and its great! I got the black iPod today, its so cool. But how do you put pictures on?

  • To get pictures on the iPod:

    - Click on your iPod in iTunes

    - Click the Photos tab

    - Click the check box that says "Sunc photos from' and choose the images you want to copy by browing folders :)

Hope that makes sense lol :)

    Aaron

  • WOw the old one shines better :) that's beautiful. I have a Ipod classis 80gb too but my Ipod is black :)

  • Dude the black version is better, Coz u cant c the smudges and grim on the click wheel! :D XD

  • i agree the black version is nicer to me

  • Thank you for answering my question DeadFredVideo! >:(

  • Sorry missed that lol

Yes it can be used for disk use before i switched to mac i used it for back-up's :)

  • oh lol thanks!

I'm pretty sure that I'll be getting

    one soon then.

  • ok, i'm getting a new iPOD soon and i'm thinking of buying the classic iPOD. 80GB or 160 GB? which is better? also shades. black or silver? help! i'm so effing indecisive it's annoying :T

  • I like silver, and 80gb should be good enough :)

    160GB is insane

  • Hey, it depends on the type of person you are depending on what you want, more vids and songs the more memory. And i'll go with the black iPod classic because you can't see the smudges and grime on the click wheel like the silver 1.

  • Very nice review, I plan to get a black 80GB classic soon. Since you own one already, I would like to ask you if you can still enable it for disk use. As in, being able to save my files & documents onto it's disk space through Windows Explorer? Please respond I would really appreciate it :)

  • Gj on the review.

    Imma get one soon.

    =]

  • Thanks for the review DeadFred :-)

Question...I've only had one iPod ever and its the Mini (which is now completely dead) Which Ipod is a better upgrade, the classic or the nano? Also how can I preserve the battery life on it? Cause my mini was only alive for 2 years and now its battery dead.

  • Best way to save battery is to always put hold on after you've turned it off :)

If you were happy with the mini, the nano will suit you well :)

  • Can anyone help me. I just purchased this IPod as well and love it. The problem I have found is my boyfriend loade my IPod with tons of music and videos but now when I try to connect to my Itunes it says it will delete it all. Is there a way to get around this? I would appreciate any help.

  • iPod is tied to one computer, or iTunes library so when it is connected to another computer it will ask to sync with this library instead, try setting the iPod to copy music manually on your bf computer then plug it into yours :)

  • Thank You!

  • i got an ipod classic 4 xmas but how can i turn it off cause my battery life keeps going down grr please tell me on me account ta

  • Right, to turn it off into a "stand by" state hold down the play button.

If you want it to turn off fully press and hold play until it's off, then put the hold switch on :D

    Hope that helped :D

  • Apparently it doesn't come with a black protection case out of the box, is that right? the 5.5GEN ipods do.

  • Nah it doesn't come with a protection case :)

  • Thanks for the review! I've been waiting to hear that they've fixed some of the bugs before I head out to buy one (to replace my 30GB 5th gen. I need more storage.)

It looks like your classic is working rather smoothly :)

    much appreciated

  • haha looks sweet im getting one in black and did you get ur name from the movie drop dead fred? that movie was hilarious.

  • Hmm the name... well when i was little that film was a fave lol but to be honest i can't remember the exact reason behind this name lol

  • What do you Guys think about Zune 80gb????

  • It's OK

  • Which one would you prefer, iPod Classic 80gb or Zune 80gb???

  • iPod Classic 80gb - i just think that it:

    - It looks much nicer

    - It uses iTunes software, which is fast, easy, and has a HUGE online music/video store.

    - It works with both mac and pc

    - And it's not made by microsoft :D jk jk

I know the zune has wireless music sharing with wifi, and the ability to buy music wirelessly but i just don't see the usefulness of these features, the iPod is simple and just works brilliantly :)

  • Thanks a lot man...Really Appreciate it

  • i have both the classic and the zune 80gb and their both great, but i prefer the zune because of the larger screen and cooler look when playing the songs. Also me and my friend like to share our music and pictures to each other so it's pretty cool. only thing to complain about zune is no extras like games which i miss. But as far as sound quality, headphones, interface, and video viewing- hands down the zune 80gb is my fav.

  • I was going to get the zune, but I decided since all of my files are in iTunes, I'm picking up an 80 gig ipod classic. They are both phenomenal products, though.

  • i have both the classic and the zune 80gb and their both great, but i prefer the zune because of the larger screen and cooler look when playing the songs. as far as sound quality, headphones, interface, and video viewing- hands down the zune 80gb is my fav. since all my music was organized from my ipod i just transfered all the files easily from ipod to my zune software-about only 10 out of my 3000 songs didn't download because i bought them off itunes.

  • I love my black Ipod Classic!!!

  • Silver iPod 80gb is sexy <3 <3 <3

  • lookin to sell the old one?

  • Sorry, thats my mum's :)

  • Damn lol its alright just figured id check thanks for the review though

  • I enjoyed watching both videos. I'm that bored... jk. I'm wanting one for Christmas which is only about a day away. I actually want the black instead of silver only so it will fit my umm "outfits" better lol. Thanks for a good cure of boredom (no offense; truly a good review) ;). Thanks for sort of "comforting" me about getting the classic. I saw a few other reviews and was a little worried.

  • No probs lol

  • ya i can see that you waited a day to upload it:)

    GREAT VIDEO OTHERWISE

  • Is it possible to rip DVDs onto the iPod instead of buying it off iTunes?

  • I don't think so, sorry.

  • Yeah you can, google "how to get DVD's on ipod" there will be tons of guides :)

  • Thanks!

I'll definitely buy an iPod classic next year!

  • yea u can..get the free program called handbrake (search it up on google). it basically decodes the DVD and saves it as a file on your pc that itunes can recognize and play. you then just transfer it to the ipod. you'll also need a dvd ripper (get DVD43 - google it up); this basically allows you to decode the copy-protected dvds and allows you to rip them and you'll need this for sure since most dvds are copy-protectted. hope that helps

  • but the old one looks good!

  • should i get the ipod classic or the new 8G nano?

  • Ive had this question a billion times now lol

Anyway, think of it this way for a little more you get a bigger screen, ten times the storage, downloadable games etc. with the classic :)

  • get the black ipod classic one the silver one shown in vid looks grey and weird. cnt wait to get one for christmas

  • It's nicer in person ;) Though i saw black in the apple store it did look pretty sleek. My choice for silver was based on the fact finger prints wouldn't show as much on the front :) Plus scratches hide them selves better on the silver but yeah...

  • Thanks so much for this review it made me buy one off ebay for £120 sealed and boxed! hasnt arrived yet but hopefully it will tomorrow!!!!

  • w00t good choice!

  • i like how on the classic when it goes into sleepmode the backlight compleatly turns off so it dont waste you battery

  • Thnx for the review. I'v been looking for a good video one to help me decide. Ta

  • the LEFT is the ipod video.

    it's the older one.

the RIGHT is the ipod CLASSIC.

    It's newer.

    hope this helped

    =]

  • this might sound like a s2pid question but wich one is the new one left ipod or the right ipod and whats the name for the left one and the right one

  • Sorry i replied to this late, youtube have stopped reminding me of new comments for some reason lol :)

As MOLLYtalk said older model on the left, ipod clasic on the right :)

  • Damn im gonna definately getting the iPod Classic Gray, BTW i still have warranty on my 5GEN and im gonna go and get me an GiftCard on Circuit City wich is 310 bucks and with that money im going to buy the clasic KICKASSS!!! THX FOR THE REVIEW M8

  • ok im set i getting one fo christmas!

  • when you first open the ipod box is it charged already?

  • Id say it has around 1/4 of the battery charged :)

  • thanx very much

  • Good Review :) i'm thinking of getting one - would you recommend one? anyway very good review it's helped me. Cheers

  • Yes i would :)

  • ok Thanks again ;) very good review (Y)

  • Appreciate the time you took to make this review. Thanks. :)

  • damn i want one its cheaper than canada

  • how much did you get it for

  • I paid full price from Apple UK, £169

  • Really cool review, you helped me with my dicision about getting an ipod. First I was going to get an 8gb nano but this helped me to go with the 80gb classic, thanks alot.

  • Help, should i get this or thr nano 3g??? i mean its only 50 bucks more...

  • Well i was originally going to go for the nano but i saw that for that small extra i could get 10 times the storage and better sound quality - so i say go for the classic :)

  • YEAH agreed

  • I totally agree! People freak out saying that this iPod sucks in someway, but after trying it out, it's not really inferior in anyway.

    Great review in any case.

  • Ok... should I get this, or the iPod Touch?

  • Sup to you, if you want big storage and the best sound quality in the iPod line get the classic - if you want the touches new interface, multi-touch fun, and plan to hack for personal apps get the touch.

    :D

  • =D

I think that I'm going to go with the classic. Can you put home videos on it?

  • Yes of course!

The iPod supports .mov and .mp4 movie formats so you need to convert some video's so that they are compatible. Google these free apps to convert video's:

    - Videora iPod Converter

    - DVD 4 Free, and DVD Decrypter, to get video from a DVD so that it can be converted for the iPod with videora :)

  • OH cool! Hey do you have AIM or Yahoo!IM? If so, messsage it to me!!!

  • nope, im an msn user myself (although i don't use the hoggy live messenger - pidgin messenger ftw!)

  • Great review dude, really helped me come to a decision on whether or not to buy my first iPod (which I will be doing now :D) Thanks!

  • Glad i could help :)

  • cool

  • hey dude,

    nice review!

just wondering if i should get a classic or a touch (8GB)

    idk...HELP!!!!

  • Well i had that problem too lol, but i got the classic because

    - It's got ten times the storage, i can hold everything

    - Has better sound quality

    - Has some of the nice UI of the touch just lacks the wifi store, internet and youtube which i cant use on the move anyway.

Depends if you want it as a casual MP3 player, of something you want to hold everything on :) If you want to play around with the touch's hacks (which look awesome) get the touch. It's up to you :D

  • So dude the most important notable differences between the iPod 5G video and the iPod 6G classic is the use of coverflow and the new interface that splits the screen in two parts?? btw thanks for your review/comparison dude, it's freakin' awesome!!!!

  • On the surface... Yeah lol. I have noticed much better sound quality from this than the older iPod video, don't know why but it sounds very good! Although most of the new features are more of a dace lift, i still think it's a good improvement over the video :)

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Dude I couldn't post you back before but here I am to thank you againg 'cause your review helped me so much, I bought the new iPod classic 80GB for my girlfriend's b-day, and I have to say it's pretty awesome, I have the 80GB iPod 5.5G video and I can't complain about anything, it's as awesome just as iPod classic is(despite iPod classic has cover flow and the new screen that splits in two) but do you know why is iPod 5.5 Generation is still more expensive than iPod classic? thnks again dude.

  • Yeah i saw that the old 5.5 is more expensive, it's mad how they can charge more for something that has been outdated lol

Thanks for commenting :) Good to know it helped you out!

  • should i get a new ipod classic or nano video??? my only problem is tat i hear ipods are hard to get videos on.. so i my not use the space.. help

  • Getting videos on it takes more time than other players, because they have to be converted to .mov or mp4. If you don't mind waiting a few minutes to convert a video here and there use videora ipod converter, its a free app. Im only using 10gb of my classic lol, even with a few movies 40 video podcasts, 1000 songs.and 15 tv shows

    Thanks for subbing!

  • i've only used 7 gbs

  • on a certain point there's no more information...,but I like it, wanna buy one myself to

  • Dude love your reviews! Keep them coming!!!

  • Thanks!

  • Do you get free downloads when you first start iTunes?

  • Nope, you used to get a free song on the older iPods but oh well :)

Songs are only 79p so its not bad. Music videos and TV shows are £1.89 each

  • Nice review,

i still don't know which one to buy, probably this one or the 4gig Nano.

  • Yeah, i was torn between the 8gb nano and the Classic, but went for classic because for £30 more i could get 10 times the storage :)

    tfw :)

  • Woo for the jap Torakku 004 :D what was that lol

  • Thanks for your review! I am looking forward to get mine in two days.

  • wow that was a good review i really want one now im probably gonna get one how much are they??

  • $250 usd for 80gb Black or silver and $350 for 120gb in black or silver.

  • sweet but i went into best buys today and played with it it seems to lag behind and the menus making it slow im still on the fence

  • Yeah a new update has been released check my new vid it higlights some of the improvements :)

  • You are able to make your own iQuiz games also with a program and upload to it

  • People! Don't forget part 1, this video has 200 more views meaning people are missing the first part lol

    Thanks!

  • have you seen if the video quality when outputted to a tv is improved?

i found the 5g made the colours quite high in contrast and a tad blurry

    tried it yet?

  • Nah i haven't tried that, don't have the tv output cable :)

I know that the new TV output cable uses component so i don't know if that will improve it, but i dunno lol

If i try it ill post a review on it or something :)

  • It could be partly because of the iPod videos age, but i think its mostly down to a new brighter screen, which is mentioned on the apple site :)

    Thanks for your comoments!

  • Yeah i have noticed that the speed difference between the two varies depending on what your doing. Like booting the ipod video takes half as long as the classic, but the classic can skip through videos much faster :)

  • Thanks for confirming that lol :)

  • Nice review, especially the games section. Just wondering if you can output video onto a tv using a cable. For eg the toshiba s-series had that function to output video to tv. Thanx

  • Yeah you can output to tv with the iPod, there is a dock cable available from apple :)

    TFW :)

  • So u have to buy it seperately? Hope the gigabeat one works. thx

  • Yeah it has to be bought seperately :) The cable from your gigabeat will not work with the iPod as it uses the dock connector, but search around you'll find the cables cheap on amazon or ebay :)

  • could you put music on the ipod classic with a different music downloader like limewire?or do you have to use itunes?send me a message with the response.

  • To get the music on the iPod its best to use iTunes as it is much easier, but you can easily import music from limewire or any other P2P service :)

If you don't like itunes the other alternatives i know of are:

    - Songbird, like itunes but open source

    - ephpod, not used it but is a lightwieght and powerful app for transfering songs

    Hope this helped :)

  • Wow! Classic has a sharp interface. I really like the new Nano. Did you upgrade the firmware? I thought Apple had a fix to speed it up a bit already.

The local Walmart had an old 4GB Nano on "sale" for $159, right next to a new 4GB Nano for $149. You pay $10 more for an older one that can't play video? Believe it or not, someone bought it! They must have loved that green color!

  • Yeah i use the 1.01 update, it works really well :) I tried with version 1, it was ok, but quite juttery - it seems ok now :)

LOL its mad that they can sell old nano's for more than the new models, you would have thought they would drop the price to get rid :)

  • Well, they DID mark the price down, but not enough to make it cheaper than the new model! I'm REALLY hoping someone bought it because they just HAD to have a green iPod and not because of the big sign indicating that there was a special price cut on it!
