Your Dalmatian looks a lot like my female Dalmatian did. She also smiled all the time(: Dalmatians make great pets, I've had two and hope to get another one someday. Adorable video by the way ^-^
Ours was a smiler as well which considering how hard her life was before we got her was quite something. We got her from a rescue centre and her previous owners were pretty much monsters in the way they treated her. I won't tell you some of the horrible things they did but they must have been border line psychopathic to treat such a friendly dog so badly. My parents kind of spoiled her but she was still a great natured dog.
@AUTIGER4LIFE26 - Why do they have to be popular for you to own one? You should be happy there not popular! Be an individual and don't care what other people think or do. Like something for you and you alone. Actually, this dog got popular after the movie and people bought them only to find out they had major problems and alot of dalmations were put to death!
@vaticanantichrist what i meant was that i want one so bad but i can't find anyone that breeds them cause they're not that popular,i've never seen one in a shelter either.
@AUTIGER4LIFE26 - I know exactly what you mean. I had the same issue 5 years ago when i bought my dog. I couldnt find one around here so i turned to the internet. I actually got a great pure bred dalmatian on the internet from Michigan and had it shipped to washington state. I think the plane ticket was only $50. I also had to buy a dog carrier and that was $50. But i got a good deal on the dog. So, thats always a possibility to you.
sorry for your loss, she looks gorgous thou and is obviously a happy dog. you did a fine job as her "owner"(do we really own dallys? I feel more like my dallys pup.lol)
Too funny. I have a mutt named Abby who smiles like this. It was a little alarming at first but that's how she's been greeting me pretty much every day now. I've had a hard time guessing what she's mixed with, but I've known a lot of dalmatians who smile.
Gabby was beautiful, they do brake your heart. Our first dally [george] lived till he was 15,we still miss him.It took 12 months before we get another dally from rescue,he is called chester.Hope you guys find another, take care.
sooo cuuutee! i love dogs! well cept my neighbores dog who is a dalmation that one i dont like, hes mean and when i was younger i went to pet him and he bit me. i think hes miss treated cause he gets reeally mean when put into closed off spaces
OH MY GOSH!!! My old dalmation used to do that too!!! We had to put him and his sister down due to hip problems. i'm trying to teach our two new 1 year old dalmation brothers to do it. one is the runt so they are very playful, fun and active! i love my dalmations so much! [:
it was years ago, while camping with cousins and my family an abandoned black dog came into our camp while we were cooking breakfast and smiled the same way Gabby's doing, my cousin's kept him but he died a few year later.
yes dalmatians really smile...it's a characteristic of the breed...an it's naturally. so, enjoy your dog as much as possible. they are really cute and funny
I wish my Dal would smile on command. But it is funny because right when you acknowledge them by name they instantly begin wagging their tail profusely. Dalmatians are the best! I can't imagine loving anything else as much. Gabby is adorable!!
My dog sometimes smile a little too. I think dogs smile because they see their owners do it when they are happy. My dog is a Bordeaux Dog x Cane Corso :)
Do Dalmations just naturally smile like this or do they get taught? I've seen certain dogs smile on demand, and it is seriously the best trick ever. Way better than shake hands and sit. Anyone know how to train their dog to smile?
My Dal does this too as did our other Dal that passed away a few years ago. It make my Dal sneeze every time she smiles. She usually smiles when you ask her, "What are you doing?" like she's caught red handed at something.
I had a dalmation, he passed away last year he was 13 years old. He smiled a lot to, she is beautiful! Brought tears to my eyes! It reminded me so much of Max
> what's a dalmations personality and temperament like
1 d - a - l - m - a - t - i - A - n
2 There is no universal temperament for the whole breed--much depends on [1] the quality of the parent-dalmatians, [2] the individual dalmatian born, and [3] the way (s)he is actually raised. If all three are well, then you have an intelligent, active-but-well-behaved, loving, loyal doggie.
She is a very sweet dog! We love this video. It is so good to see others recognizing that the smiling behaviour is actually a submissive sign (not agressive), and that the owners treat the dog accordingly. Good on you and thanks for sharing the video. Our Ollie dog (Dal X we think) smiled later in life and we loved it.
This is so awesome! My family used to raise dalmatians and everyone of them that we've had smiles :D I love dalmatians and I wish everyone could see how amazing of a dog they really are.
I have 2 dals now; 1 smiles the other doesn't. The one who smiles does not like the camera so it's hard to catch him smiling. He sneezes when he smiles, too! Love your dog.

SHE IS ADORABLE! I really want a Dal but I've heard they're prone to meanness/deafness/hyperactivity.. and lots of other issues. Any truth to that? Also, did you get her before or after your daughter was born and how does she do with kids? Again... BEAUTIFUL dog. So cute :)
Dalmatians are GREAT dogs (the only breed for me!) Some of the breeds greatest problems come from uneducated owners and backyard breeders. Please go to the Dalmatian Club of America's website to learn more about this great breed. thedca(dot)org
u have one cute dog right there. u made a great job of keeping her healthy for 10 years. man, this reminds me of my yugo. he's a dalmatian, too, but he died last sunday. it's so painful. i cried that day. i've never been so emotional. hello gabby!!!
Actually, no it's not. Dalmatians are known for baring their teeth when happy or excited. I have the camera zoomed in to show her excellent smile, so you aren't able to see the rest of her body language; which, as I mentioned in an earlier reply, is a way to tell if a dog is truly smiling or being defensive/aggressive.
hahaaa... Very good! I love all dog breeds, but specially the Dalmatians. It's true, these dogs knows how to smile like humans. They give a whole lot of love and happiness.
My dal's just over 3 years old and STILL hasn't smiled (once, I thought she was but I wasn't sure). She's a very spoiled dog and loves me very much, but she just won't do it!
I wonder if that messes with their head at all? To a dog baring his teeth is a sign of aggression and he is praised for doing this to his masters. I know he doesn't mean it this way but I have to wonder what is going on in his head.
There is a tendency for dals to smile when they're excited (happy) rather than to show that they are upset. Although they do snarl when upset too, you have to read it in their body language in order to take it in context.
Yay, a dally smile video! I see the dally smile all the time and now I have somewhere to send people when they don't get what I'm talking about. :) Thank-you!
i miss my dalmation doing that he got absolutly massive then my mum got rid of im i was so upset i got him as my bday present and the lady who came and took him said i could go and visit them and get photos of him but she didnt want me anywere near him and he had puppies wid te other dalmaton so im looking on here to c if i can c him comment bck on my profile plz

I have a question...is that supposed to be a trait of dalmatians or do lots of people simply teach their dogs to do that?

I've seen other breeds smile, but it is a trait that dals are somewhat known for.

All that they need is love. They teach us how to be happy.
Thank for posting this.

She was 10 when we got her and was already smiling prior to that. She's almost 13 now and still smiling.
