  • Your Dalmatian looks a lot like my female Dalmatian did. She also smiled all the time(: Dalmatians make great pets, I've had two and hope to get another one someday. Adorable video by the way ^-^

  • I want to get a dalmation so bad

  • that made a smile come to my face :)

  • my dalmatian does the same thing haha its the only breed ive ever known to do that

  • i'm jealous

  • Such a beautiful family.

  • Ours was a smiler as well which considering how hard her life was before we got her was quite something. We got her from a rescue centre and her previous owners were pretty much monsters in the way they treated her. I won't tell you some of the horrible things they did but they must have been border line psychopathic to treat such a friendly dog so badly. My parents kind of spoiled her but she was still a great natured dog.

  • What a little dollbaby! That's just too cute ^-^

  • AWWW when she smiled I smiled too so cute

  • OH! so cute!

  • What a cute girl!! :)

I lost my baby dalmatian yesterday: he was 5 and he used to smile every time he saw me or my mom and dad coming! I miss him so much! :( :( :(

  • ah i want a dalmation sooo bad! too bad they're not that popular anymore :(

  • @AUTIGER4LIFE26 - Why do they have to be popular for you to own one? You should be happy there not popular! Be an individual and don't care what other people think or do. Like something for you and you alone. Actually, this dog got popular after the movie and people bought them only to find out they had major problems and alot of dalmations were put to death!

  • @vaticanantichrist what i meant was that i want one so bad but i can't find anyone that breeds them cause they're not that popular,i've never seen one in a shelter either.

  • @AUTIGER4LIFE26 - I know exactly what you mean. I had the same issue 5 years ago when i bought my dog. I couldnt find one around here so i turned to the internet. I actually got a great pure bred dalmatian on the internet from Michigan and had it shipped to washington state. I think the plane ticket was only $50. I also had to buy a dog carrier and that was $50. But i got a good deal on the dog. So, thats always a possibility to you.

  • My dog does that too!!! It's adorable. :)

  • sorry for your loss, she looks gorgous thou and is obviously a happy dog. you did a fine job as her "owner"(do we really own dallys? I feel more like my dallys pup.lol)

  • SOOO CUTE!!

  • Wonderful smiley Dally. thanks for sharing

  • hahaha lol what a beautiful smile and dog I love dalmatians

  • My Dally smiles too always when someone comes in the house and greets her!

  • Too funny. I have a mutt named Abby who smiles like this. It was a little alarming at first but that's how she's been greeting me pretty much every day now. I've had a hard time guessing what she's mixed with, but I've known a lot of dalmatians who smile.

  • my dalmatian Logan smiles too! I always figured he did it bc he was deaf and it was a sign for something

  • She was so pretty! I'm sure she was a wonderful companion!

  • Gabby was beautiful, they do brake your heart. Our first dally [george] lived till he was 15,we still miss him.It took 12 months before we get another dally from rescue,he is called chester.Hope you guys find another, take care.

  • I have a 15 year old dalmatian And she looks like yours. Cute.

  • @MonbaMadness YOur extremely lucky, mines about 11 and I ahte that they are supposed to have such a short life expectancy

  • My spotted girl does the same thing. Lovely :)

  • I love dalmatians! Pure Croatian breed. Makes me proud to be a Croat.

  • I love Dalmatian mine in a male and is name is Toby and he be 15 year`s old!

  • sooo cuuutee! i love dogs! well cept my neighbores dog who is a dalmation that one i dont like, hes mean and when i was younger i went to pet him and he bit me. i think hes miss treated cause he gets reeally mean when put into closed off spaces

  • when my dalmatian makes that face I call it the icky face because he only does that when you startle him.

  • what a cute smile...

  • aw mine does that too! check him out on my page!!! :)

  • OH MY GOSH!!! My old dalmation used to do that too!!! We had to put him and his sister down due to hip problems. i'm trying to teach our two new 1 year old dalmation brothers to do it. one is the runt so they are very playful, fun and active! i love my dalmations so much! [:

  • it was years ago, while camping with cousins and my family an abandoned black dog came into our camp while we were cooking breakfast and smiled the same way Gabby's doing, my cousin's kept him but he died a few year later.

  • lol my doberman does that too

  • @inflameschick I bet you could really scare some folk by making a dobie smile!!

  • my dog does that, but only when he smells hairspray or nail polish or something like that. its pretty funny.

  • Hahaha so cute! My old dog smiled too but didnt bare his teeth, mostly pulled the corners of his mouth upward and squinted his eyes.

  • Our dobe smiled all the time.

  • whats with her tooth?

  • @thumbkin I would love to see that vid... Pitbulls are sooooo misrepresented... Awesome Dalmation smiles :)

  • aww i miss my dalmation sooo much she used to smile too

  • lol I had a pitbull that used to do that and everyone thought she was going to bite them!

  • Figured only my Peggy laughed. Instead I had to reverse to watch this video. Resembles in a way crazy.

  • i love dalmatians

i use to have one called disney

  • cool dog

  • my half dal does it naturally never been tought it is a dal traint

  • yes dalmatians really smile...it's a characteristic of the breed...an it's naturally. so, enjoy your dog as much as possible. they are really cute and funny

  • @degeteslinoase It's not exclusive to dalmations though. Our Jack russle does it too... I think it's a rare talent :)

  • i have a dalmation and my bestest buddy's name is Gabi

  • I wish my Dal would smile on command. But it is funny because right when you acknowledge them by name they instantly begin wagging their tail profusely. Dalmatians are the best! I can't imagine loving anything else as much. Gabby is adorable!!

  • WoW she is an amazing pet... wat a smile..

  • Awh aha, cutest smile. (:

    Starts @ 0:10.

  • My dog sometimes smile a little too. I think dogs smile because they see their owners do it when they are happy. My dog is a Bordeaux Dog x Cane Corso :)

  • tejumo

I have a smiling Dalmatian too and she naturally did it but I encourage it as a bit of entertainment for visitors!

Not sure you can teach it if the instinct is not there in the first place tho...

  • lol, that was pretty good.

  • My dog only does this with his half mouth, he does with the whole mouth, it's cute =3

  • Do Dalmations just naturally smile like this or do they get taught? I've seen certain dogs smile on demand, and it is seriously the best trick ever. Way better than shake hands and sit. Anyone know how to train their dog to smile?

  • THATS SO CUTE!

    i LOOOOOVE Dalmatians!

i also love alaskan klee kais and siberian huskys (:

    Aaaaw so cute!

    Favourite! :D

  • i want a dalmatian so badly *_*

  • Marius, my dalmatien smile too. But each side separately !...So weird xD

  • that was adorable :]

  • SO CUTE!

  • i've seen other dog breeds do this too. they probably learn it from humans, since by instinct they wag their tails when happy.

  • I wish my Dalmatian would smile, he just does a silly grin once in a while!!

  • This dog is definitely loved. And I see why.

  • my dal never did this.

becareful doing this in public people

will think she is bad around kids.

which is so uNtrue about dals.

  • my dal never smiled, but she loved to give hugs. we washed her in a dawn, peroxide & baking soda mix to keep her super white. and smell free!!

  • if i ever had a dalmatian it would take me a while to get over showing teeth=bad.

  • OMG that is the cutest thing tooo

we used to have a dalmation and he smiled sometimesyoo:)

  • my dal used to do that!!! its so cutee!! everytime i came in the door shed run up and smile and wen she had done something wrong !

  • I love the big stretch that she did.

  • My Dal does this too as did our other Dal that passed away a few years ago. It make my Dal sneeze every time she smiles. She usually smiles when you ask her, "What are you doing?" like she's caught red handed at something.

  • when my friend's dalmatian first "smiled" at me, i thought he was about to attack me lol. i shat myself. lol

  • My two dals do that too!

  • What a beautiful well-proportioned dalmatian. How much does she weigh?

  • She ranged from 50-55 lbs. We tried to keep her around 50. There are more pics of her in my "Farewell, Gabby" video... She's dearly missed.

  • I had a dalmation, he passed away last year he was 13 years old. He smiled a lot to, she is beautiful! Brought tears to my eyes! It reminded me so much of Max

  • aww

what's a dalmations personality and temperament like

  • CHEPECKARD:

    > what's a dalmations personality and temperament like

    1 d - a - l - m - a - t - i - A - n

2 There is no universal temperament for the whole breed--much depends on [1] the quality of the parent-dalmatians, [2] the individual dalmatian born, and [3] the way (s)he is actually raised. If all three are well, then you have an intelligent, active-but-well-behaved, loving, loyal doggie.

  • That was really cute

  • My parents think I'm crazy now that I'm smiling like a goofball at my laptop screen.

Absolutely adorable. I didn't expect her to smile, and when she did, I did. =]

    5/5

  • I like her smile :)

  • Ahww, seeing her smile makes a smile appear on my face, too! ^^ So cute!!

  • Adorable!

  • that is so funny! and cute!

  • She is a very sweet dog! We love this video. It is so good to see others recognizing that the smiling behaviour is actually a submissive sign (not agressive), and that the owners treat the dog accordingly. Good on you and thanks for sharing the video. Our Ollie dog (Dal X we think) smiled later in life and we loved it.

  • This is so awesome! My family used to raise dalmatians and everyone of them that we've had smiles :D I love dalmatians and I wish everyone could see how amazing of a dog they really are.

  • That is so cute!!

  • It's true! all Dalmation smiles like this...

    I ever had 3 dalmatioins ... I love them ^^

  • Do all Dalmatians smile like this? It's so cute

  • I have 2 dals now; 1 smiles the other doesn't. The one who smiles does not like the camera so it's hard to catch him smiling. He sneezes when he smiles, too! Love your dog.

  • So nice;nice, nice nice

  • I have a dalmatian puppy lol.. well shes just turnt one rlli... how do you teach them to smile?

its so cute and funny lol

  • haha. My male dalmation likes to do that too!!

  • lol its kind of weired

  • She's adorable! My Dal is 10, too, she doesnt smile like Gabby, but when she gets in trouble she almost does.

  • This video always makes me laugh. She looks kinda scary with such big sharp teeth, but shes really adorable. Yey for Gabby!

  • thats so cute

    how much are dalmatians?

  • this video almost made me cry. i had a dalmation named taz for 11 years. he just passed away from kidney failure but he used to smile at me every day when i came home from work. thanks for posting this. it brought back some really great memories.

  • It's a very sweet smile :)

  • my name is Gabby too !

  • That's a cool trick, the Dalmatian we got is dumber than a bag of rocks.

  • hahahaha

  • SHE IS ADORABLE! I really want a Dal but I've heard they're prone to meanness/deafness/hyperactivity.. and lots of other issues. Any truth to that? Also, did you get her before or after your daughter was born and how does she do with kids? Again... BEAUTIFUL dog. So cute :)

  • Dalmatians are GREAT dogs (the only breed for me!) Some of the breeds greatest problems come from uneducated owners and backyard breeders. Please go to the Dalmatian Club of America's website to learn more about this great breed. thedca(dot)org

  • u have one cute dog right there. u made a great job of keeping her healthy for 10 years. man, this reminds me of my yugo. he's a dalmatian, too, but he died last sunday. it's so painful. i cried that day. i've never been so emotional. hello gabby!!!

  • soooo adorable

  • Actually, no it's not. Dalmatians are known for baring their teeth when happy or excited. I have the camera zoomed in to show her excellent smile, so you aren't able to see the rest of her body language; which, as I mentioned in an earlier reply, is a way to tell if a dog is truly smiling or being defensive/aggressive.

  • my dally smiles just like that to

  • haha great clip.. i have a dalmatian myself they are such clever dogs

  • WOW!!!!!

  • una sonrisa tiernamente fea!!

    :DDD

  • her smile is so adorable

  • We own a smiling Bearded Collie. : )

  • hahaaa... Very good! I love all dog breeds, but specially the Dalmatians. It's true, these dogs knows how to smile like humans. They give a whole lot of love and happiness.

  • that's family right there!

  • THAT IS ADORABLE

  • Aww, that is a cute Dalmatian. I love Dalmatians, my favorite breed of dog.:)

  • My dal's just over 3 years old and STILL hasn't smiled (once, I thought she was but I wasn't sure). She's a very spoiled dog and loves me very much, but she just won't do it!

  • thats a shame. mine smiles every time i come home

  • aww, well she's adorable, and its nice to see a dalmatian at a grand age, it restores some of my hope :)

    x gorgeous dog x

  • I have a question...is that supposed to be a trait of dalmatians or do lots of people simply teach their dogs to do that?

  • I've seen other breeds smile, but it is a trait that dals are somewhat known for.

  • I wonder if that messes with their head at all? To a dog baring his teeth is a sign of aggression and he is praised for doing this to his masters. I know he doesn't mean it this way but I have to wonder what is going on in his head.

  • There is a tendency for dals to smile when they're excited (happy) rather than to show that they are upset. Although they do snarl when upset too, you have to read it in their body language in order to take it in context.

  • All that they need is love. They teach us how to be happy.

    Thank for posting this.

  • Oh my god, she's BEAUTIFUL!

Make the most of her whilst you have her she's a wonderful dog and smiles on command!

My second dal is nearly one and hasn't smiled yet :(

What age did yours smile at?

    x

    gorgeous girl x

  • She was 10 when we got her and was already smiling prior to that. She's almost 13 now and still smiling.

  • she's 13?! WOW! That's an OLD dog!

  • lol omg thats the best smile from a dog i have ever seen
