  • Saw Burton about six months ago in Victoria. He hasn't changed a bit! His voice is so true and he always puts homself in the songs. I remember listening to him in the seventies and had his 8 tracks and records.

  • Sounds like another late artist

  • Never realized that two of my favorite singers also played piano, Burton Cummings and Dennis DeYoung.

  • Damn Burton!!! I've missed this song so Much thought I'd never hear it again till, I was SCARED. You play those keys SO Great it just is so good to hear you again. Love you and your music always. I will now order a CD if there's one available. Thank you God for this guy!! AWESOME!!

  • Guess who I like? sorry about the bad pun. just had to do it.

  • top ten voice for sure it is sad he is so much underrated

  • I got here because I am scared, so I typed it in the search bar. xD

  • Burton Cummings, along with Gary Puckett had the greatest voice in rock music to me in the late 60s and early 70s. Dont know why he wasn't a bigger solo star.

  • The complete popular musician - song, singer, piano - nooone better at that time in music history.

  • He's still great! Love Burton and his music! That's what you call a truly talented person!

  • hot voice...love the moustache....

  • Dont even mention American Idol in the same sentence with this guy!!!! He's WAY above that crap!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love songs of substance, great honest lyrics and a great voice.. I miss guys like this some try, but few hit the mark and those who do get shot down by suits.

  • next amirican idol for sure i loved it ...

  • next amirican idol for sure alsome song ....

  • Sometimes I forget what a great pianist Burton was because his voice alone gives me shivers...the piano solo in this performance is just as heart wrenching. Thank you so much for posting.

  • What a great song and voice!

  • Haha i get to see him in concert in 16 hours ! yay !

  • I would give my left nut to have this much talent. I would give both of someone else's nuts to have this much talent etc, etc etc

  • How can some one have that much talent , it amazes me.

  • HEY CAN YOU MAKE A VIDEO FOR HIS LIVE VERSION ON THE ALBUM UP CLOSE AND ALONE. I BELIEVE IT'S A LOT BETTER THAN THE STUDIO VERSION AND MOST LIVE ONES CAUSE IT'S JUST HIM AND HIS PIANO,, AND IT'S NOT ON YOUTUBE YET FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN SEARCHING. REALLY IT'S AMAZING LOL THANK YOU!!! PLZ READ! PEACE <3

  • Who the hell are the six idiot's who disliked this song?

  • THE VOICE!!!

  • Love Burton Cummings and the Guess Who. Great memories of the music growing up. Very talented Canadian boys who make us proud.

  • Burton, you are the man....in a league of your own...

  • IN THE TOP 3 MALE VOCALISTS TO EVER COME OUT OF CANADA

  • the best

  • Former altar boy still a nice guy & one of few classic rockers still rockin' --what does that tell you! Good thing he "got down on his knees" & re-met His God, he's been blessed. :)

  • Thanks for posting this video.

  • I meant band members. Sorry about that.

  • If I ever hit the lottery where I had millions to spend, I would contact Burton and tell him that I wanted a private concert to be filmed. He would hire all the backround singers, orchestra and bank members that he needed. I would ask him to perform all his best songs the way that he did them on the albums....I would sit back and enjoy the best voice that God ever gifted this world with. I cannot say how much his music has meant to me over these last 25 years. He's been my hero since 1976.

  • @archiepezek people always say what they would do if they won the lottery, and your idea is the best one i've ever heard. that would be money well spent!

  • @archiepezek and invite me:) brings back good memories of long drives in the car with my sweet dad.

  • burton cummings certainly is one of the best. i really wish he would perform in minnesota. i'd rather see him than any of today's "artists." he is a living legend.

  • I am 52 arch! Definitely my favorite by Cummings. I wish I listen to the mesaage more in my youth. It would of saved lots of heartache!

  • He's been my hero since he released his first solo album when I was 16 years old. Now I'm 51 and love his music as much as ever. This was always my favorite song from him, my favorite song in life. Fantastic voice and fantastic piano playing. What a talent!!

  • I love this song

I know it is a clesha on youtube ( didnt spell that right) but I am 21 and I love burton!!!

Music today has its good and bads but it will never be better than decades before.

  • Brings me back to driving in the family station wagon with my dad. Miss you dad. Everyday. Every minute.

  • Brings me back to driving in the family station wagon with my dad. Miss you dad. Everyday. Every minute.

  • this song is very difficult to listen to... I am scared.. Thanks Burt!

  • Feeling a bit scared & depressed at present... T.G. there is a song for me to relate to!

Thx B.C. for being there for me! Luv your tunes... You're a "God Send"!

  • you gotta love that voice it soothes the soul

  • hes awesome ...period

  • Straight from the Heart .. gotta love the sound ....

  • Beautiful! This is SO VERY BEAUTIFUL!

  • who hasn't tried to sing along with this on the radio . one of my favorate burton songs

  • Very Lovely Share!!!..Thankyou Gary...Anita..

  • Lovely share Gary thank you

  • wow x

  • Burton touches the soul, spiritually and musically, his music is so much a pleasure to hear :)

  • I think it's a characteristically Canadian song too. A lot of us feel the need for spirituality inside ourselves, but never had the chance to explore it through any heritage. Burton's soulful singing confirms that religion is a useful tool, but that spirituality exists independently from any dogma.

  • Burton should play more of his solo stuff live when he is with Bachman. I love Bachman but Burtons stuff is as good or better.

  • One of my dearest songs of all time. A man who puts it all out there with great compassion and artistry. Thank you so much, Mr. Cummings!

  • Timeless Burton Cummings, the man has a grasp on the world around him, a true story teller...

  • One of my favorite BC's, along with "Nothing Rhymed" . Wish I could find a video of that one!!!!!!

  • What a beautiful song, my brother had this song on a 7 inch single about 30 yrs ago and at the the time I think I wore out the disk playing it so much, its so wonderful to hear it again.

  • anybody who feels about this man and his voice the way i do, we need to meet in the middle and party, rock on

  • This is my all-time favourite song! Love it!

  • @lightpowerangel You have good taste.

  • @lightpowerangel listen to something old something new, or wednesday in your garden

  • Really a cool Burton Cummings song. Sort of a drag it does not get played on radio.

  • My first 45 was Stand Tall and I believe this was the flip side..takes me way back.

  • My all time favorite song by him. I have always been in love with this man. He is so yummy!!!

  • I forgot about this song, what a joy to hear it again! What a beautiful man with a wonderful voice!

  • All I can say is WOW! His songs have always made my heart smile or cry becouse of the feeling it places in your soul.

  • Rofl comment below, Justin Timberflake? Lol

  • Love to see Justin Timberflake, or any of the so called superstars of today play and sing like this???

  • what a good looking man he was .

  • Burt has an amazingly infectuous voice................just plain awesome

  • Amen, Burton. Always loved this song.

  • this video is awesome

  • I love this album. Burton Cummings has an amazing voice. Thanx for sharing.

  • lol burton "cummings"

  • Today's youth have no idea what they have missed.

  • @tim3097 and today's elders have no idea how to write a sentence with correct grammar..

  • @tim3097

I'm a teen who's just finished my grade 10 RCM.

Burton Cummings is one of my piano idols!

Along with some of the obvious classics, of course

(Elton John, Iiro Rantala, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, and, naturally, George Gershwin ;D)

  • @tim3097

i'm going to see him in concert in 2 weeks with my girl. (cant freaking wait!)

    i'm 16 and i couldn't agree with you more.

  • @tim3097 are you saying that we cant go back and listen to the things you like, i hate most of my music today, i love the classics!

  • @tim3097 You can say that again!

  • @tim3097 I keep trying to show them !!!

  • All I have to say is that I just love having grown up listening to this remarkable talent. From The Guess Who up to modern date. He is definitely a living legend. Also he is one of my all time favorites.

  • Thanks for this- my records are dead- but I can listen to my favorite BC songs again!

    Awesome.

  • @cvamoca WOW U2 I LIVED IN BC IN THE 70S NOT NOW THO SURE BRINGS BACK MEMORIES WHEN I WAS A YOUNG.

  • Morning barra112! Thanks for a reply. I guess I didn't say exactly wht I meant or felt. I just have a "gift" (sometimes), and Burton just seemed "very empty-eyed". And the song just had those words. . .Like someone he knew was thinking about ending their life, and he was doing all he could to convince this person that it wasn't necessary for them to die. Thanks for responding! Have a safe Memorial Day.

  • When I first heard Burton after going solo form The Guess Who, I knew he was going to be a hit. It really surprised me when they called him a "One hit wonder". Anything he sang was beautiful. He had a magic voice (to me), and I miss not hearing him on a daily basis. Between this song & "Stand Tall", I'm not sure which is his best. . .I'd venture to guess Stand Tall. Seemed like a sad time in his life. This site is great for the oldies!!!

  • @slaphappyKat

I know Randy Bachmam from the days of high school in Winnipeg and even though they have different life styles, Randy sill thinks that Burton has the best 'rock and roll' voice and style.

  • @barra112

    Robert Plant agrees

  • One Of Canada's finest!!!!!!!!

  • Rather a nifty pianist too! It amazes me that his considerable talent has not been more prominent since leaving Guess Who. Great!

  • Cuts me to the core, this song. It was a favorite of mine, hard to find in stores, and my bf (now ex) surprised me by playing the original record on my first morning with him. I'll never forget it. Thanks for posting this, Offshute, it made me think of the good memories he and I shared.

  • Sure sounds great and I'm glad it's here on the tube

  • remember this song from college--haven't heard it since--what a great find--thanks so much for posting this great performance by a great performer--superb!

  • Burton Cummings is pure talent. So charismatic too.

  • Y'all know any nation would be proud to claim him, no less than Lightfoot (and, for that matter, Lee, Peart, and Lifeson). U.S. Pop & Country music from the Guess Who era was predicitable--you could rhyme every line before hearing a song the first time...including requisite twangs, etc.. After listening to Cummins' lyrics and vocals I realize, "Ah, that was just right!" Unpredictable, but then how could it be done any better? Thanks for the post--an immediate favorite!

  • So awesome....im alqays in awe of mr cummings.....a Canadian treasure.

  • Thanks gaz wondeful song - beautiful lyrics

  • I Forgot About This One! Always Loved This Song & Still Do!!! 5*s Thankyou for sharing Gaz & To offshute for posting...Anita..

  • What a great unique voice, I always like Burton Cummings and Guess Who?

  • @1955Cal

    I give up - Who?

    j/k

  • @Inspector62

    Take a Guess,lol.

  • Burton lives in Canada you simple bitch. He is Canadian.

  • awesome, this song is awesome.

  • How's it goin?

    Great stuff!!

I love Burton's solo material....maybe a bit more than Guess Who! Kind of ...well, addictive...it's sweet, sweet!

  • Burton and Steve Perry; 2 great voices and song writers

  • One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Burton you are one of the greatest singers of all time. Much love from Alabama

  • i live in winnipeg,,,,his hometown,,,,,doesnt this song make u cry huh>? much love to you as a Canuck to a Yank......Robert Plant called him one of the all time unique voices,,,,,,much love from manitoba

  • He has such a beautiful voice! I loved this song when it first came out. I don't know why it's been one of his more obscure songs.

  • He should be scared I just heard he jumped ship became a American, Something Randy would never do. Good luck Burt in Irac, at least your music will live on.......

  • It's spelled "Iraq", loser!

  • @evilcork

Ditto on the spelling of "Iraq" moron. He has practical reasons for becoming a naturalized American citizen, stupid. Burton Cummings has been incredibly loyal to Canada throughout his life--even when he gets savaged by idiots like you. Leave the guy alone; he doesn't need your consent to conduct his life.

  • que voz tan preciosa , es indudable su talento , pero tambien hay que decirlo ... es guapisimo muuaaa, que linda boca , y su piel parece tan aterciopelada

  • listen to the words Carolyn

  • I saw Burton @ Harpos Theater in Detroit in 1987. I was 16 and was my first concert. I didnt even know who this man was before that night, That is still the best show I had ever seen.

  • good music the real stuff give u a chill & wit this song and all his stuff i always get a CHILL!!!

  • I work for NWA airlines, I lived thru 9-11 the last few days BC has gotten me through with my ipod and dvd. I am still scared and teriffied.Penny

  • 70's pop music was horrible. either samey rock stuff or softer than the soft ballads.

this stuff is so fluffy and soft it's unreal.

  • Yeah, go listen to some techno/synth shite. You couldn't hold Cummings' microphone.

  • Shit Howdy! That's right!

  • 70s pop music was the best music ever recorded. I suppose

Elton John and solo McCartney is crap too then? That's 70s pop. The 70s was also a decade of one hit wonders who created a magnificent wealth of material that blows away the music of any other decade hands down. Anyone with a critical, educated. discerning ear could vouch for that. NOTHING touches 70s music! Now 70s fashion? That's another story.

  • 60's rock?

  • lol

  • Back when Music actually implied something! Luv the Burton!

  • .. !

  • Thanks Burton! Always turn to it when I am scared! hey tim h, if you hate the song why do you come back and complain about it. BC was there when I was losing my family, maybe you have to be a compassionate person!

  • pretty horrible song

  • @Timhumphrey45

LOL! I disagree, but LOL anyways. Nice, straight-ahead, two thumbs way down!

  • What Rock did you crawl-out from?

  • Pretty big idiot commenting on it.

  • @Timhumphrey45

    Get to the point!

  • That was really really good... Why is this man not more famous? :)

  • @christovskymck

Perhaps because he wrote for himself and not the marketplace? Maybe it was the moustache? ;-)

  • My favorite by the former lead of "guess Who" Great post thanks for letting the tube know of it.

  • let's see you do better!

  • the last time i heard this song was thirty years ago, searching for it ever since. such memories, beautiful.

  • This is a great song that has retained its undefinable magic . As a kid this song made my heart soar and it still does.

  • The emotion in his face is beautiful as he sings this lovely song.

  • Hearing this song as a kid, playing his hits record over and over again almost brings sadness. Back then there was no stress in my life and a lived the music. How the world has changed.. Rock on Burton!

  • About ten years ago, I was driving late one night from Saint John to Moncton. This song came on the radio, and it almost a religious experience. Sing it, Burt!

  • Burton is an extreme talent. I love everything he sings

  • As a DJ who played this song,I can tell you that this is NOT a lip sync.Just pure live talent!

  • In videos yes they lip sync but on tv not all lip sync. Usually it's the people who are dancing full out who lip sync on tv. But I personally know people who have sung on t.v.& don't or know people who have been to live tapings who have seen people who don't.

  • Burton will live into Infiity!

  • sing it Burt Reynolds!

  • Enough is enough.Burton Cummings is far too talented to ever lip synch,or at least have to.

    Shuddy!!

  • I'm 45 and I heard this song first in the early 70's....had a alot of personal family stuff going on......this song, and Burton being a Canadian helped me through so much.............this song makes me happy and brings tears to my eyes.........thank you BC for writing a tune that allows me to remember somebody so special in my life.

  • I wouldn't care if he were lip-synching, I know the reasons for it... But I don't think this is lip-synched. It doesn't sound like the original track. Burton is just a very consistent vocalist... and I think that kind of thing always invites the lip-synching comments. People who sing as amazing as Burton does are able to re-create their studio vocals in a live setting without much effort.

  • This song hits me to my core

  • Pffft it's taped for tv/video of course it's lip synced you moron!! I have a news flash for you when singers and bands make music videos they don't actually sing-- they all lip sync while performing for the camera; It's showmanship and part of being in the biz. Too many people make a big deal out of this and there is no reason.. as long as it's his music. He sings and plays amazing live unlike half of today's artists who rely on the studio to make them sound good. Jeez man! Hugh u suck!

  • Does it matter if its lip sync or playing the instrument? Jeez! That was done loads od times in the 70's as that was a norm, who cares if he is lip syncin'? Still him, still his music, still his song, get over that lip syncing garbage! SHEEEEESH!

  • lol agreed not lip sync tho

  • Grew up with top 40 AM in 60s/70s, Burton still my favorite male vocalist of all time-for no other reason, just like the way the guy sings.

  • really funny howard stern appearance by him doing a song about Baba Booey in These Eyes tune

  • Great song. I grew up listening to Burton. Although "I'm Scared" of his lip syncing (see 3:28) and faking the piano, I'll forgive him in the spirit of "religion"!

  • 日本に来てくれないかな~

  • lillian taught him well.

  • i was privledged enough to take some music and piano theory with a teacher named lillian irwin. She was burtons piano teacher when he was a kid and i rememebr she would tell me that was her "claim to fame" She was a very old lady and would tell me that she never liked the muscial path he took but that she loved his song i will play a rhapsody. She has passed on but to anyone who lives in the 'Peg and understands this she lived on Cathedral Avenue.

  • nice little story

  • Not one of the best.. he is The Best..some of his songs can make a person like me cry.i think he has alot of emotion. well that is good isn't it..hope he doesn't get mad for me saying that about him..he is toooo nice .

  • Arguably the greatest Canadian singer/songwriter of all time! Simply awesome!

  • yup..robert plant has called him one of the most unique and great voices in rock

  • This poor guys last name.

  • Comment removed

  • LOL...I was just thinking about that when I was typing his name in here...and yes I agree he definitely could pass for a 70's porn star BUT he is incredible! His talent and voice cannot be compared...one of Canada's finest talents by far!

  • Hey! Anyone who hasn't seen the movie "Melanie" should do so pronto. He's great in it. XOXO

  • I have the LP. Love it...thank you Burton.

  • Great song, thanks offshute and Gary for sending it to me!

  • Im proud to live in a country that can produce such beutiful sounds, CANADA!
