  • Good answer gaiusiulius73!! :)

  • (cont) Choir lofts were built for many good reasons, both musical and liturgical. We currently can't use the Mission's loft, but we're in the same area (toward the back in the middle) and it works well.

  • (cont.) Two, the Mission has an organ, but it's locked up and we'd have to get a key to it; and three, historically the Mission did not have an organ. The current one they have is up in front in the left side nave, so it's addition of the Novus Ordo period, when choirs and organs were not in style and the design of the church was altered to make the musicians as much a part of the congregation as possible. We tried, but we can't stand where the organ is and see what's going on.

  • dacatholicbandorgan, there are several reasons for not using the organ. One, and most importantly, the music is for a capella singers (and the acoustics of the Mission make it sound better that way); (cont).

  • Why don't you guys use the organ?
