Wow your horses gaits are amazing. You can especially see it after the colt and buckskin go running my and his dam and that darker horse (Couldn't tell the color) go by. Lovely. I have never ridden a Paso Fino. It is on my lists of things to do haha
That colt, Tigger, is almost three now. He lives next door to us now along with a 14-year-old retired cutting mare. His new owner is a teenage girl who is careful not to ride him much until he matures in another year. Tigger was super easy to start under saddle, eager, willing and not at all spooky.
wow waitin till 3 to ride him. we start our walking horses at 18 months. and probably dont really ride them hard till 2 or a little better. but every horse is different thats for sure. :D
He's two years and three months old now and we've started him under saddle. Now that he's growing up he's polite and eager to learn. He's being a delight to train. We only ride him briefly every few weeks so we don't risk causing him lameness problems in later life. We never ride a horse much until age four, and don't ride at the competition level until age five or six.
glad to hear that. nice to see there are some that have patience to wait for the horses sake. i heard their growth plates in the legs keep growing until about 5 yo but it should be ok to start them at 2 yo. i started my first one last winter and he was 2 1/2. we only trailride and he didn't do that much until this summer
lol...i love newborns they r so fun and full of energy...my grandpas two mares gave birth a year appart and the youngest colt is already tller than the filly born a year before him lol
Winters we often get lots of snow and temperatures fall below zero F. However, the skies clear right after each storm and because we are so far south the sun is high in the sky, it warms up fast. Even when below freezing, it is warm in the winter sun. Summers are not very hot and because we are at high altitude, it always cools off at night in the summer. Most years we get a monsoon in July and August and we get lots of green pasture. But some years the monsoons fail and it is like a desert.
You are correct, good observation. She's a classic Paso Fino and most of the time runs with a four beat gait. She never trots, but when she goes fast enough she will canter or gallop.
He's like mummy look at me I can fight like big boy. :)
Haha he is cute.

Thank you. We live in a mountain valley a little ways east of Albuquerque, NM.

What's the weather like there? Winter? Summer? We are looking for the "perfect horse country" and are thinking about a move.
